GRIFFONS • OCT. 20, 2012 • PITTSBURG 9 Pittsburg State 52, Southwest Baptist 9 Pittsburg State 59, Lincoln 17 BOLIVAR, Mo. — Top-ranked Pittsburg State scored 52 straight points to overcome sloppy field conditions and a slow PITTSBURG -- No. 1 ranked Pitt State jumped out to a 35-3 first quarter lead, padded the cusion to 56-3 late in the start to roll to a 52-9 victory over Southwest Baptist Saturday (Sept. 15) at Plaster Stadium. second quarter and cruised to a 59-17 victory over winless Lincoln Saturday (Sept. 22) at Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium. Tony Abenoja passed for 259 yards and two scores to lead the Pitt State offense, while Briceton Wilson added a pair of rushing touchdowns. For the second time in as many games, the Gorillas (4-0, 4-0 MIAA) played before a sellout crowd -- this time with 10,779 Family Day fans crowding into “The Pitt”. Pitt State (3-0, 3-0 MIAA) scored four times in just under five minutes between the late first quarter and early second quarter to turn a 7-7 game into a 31-7 advantage over SBU (0-3, 0-3 MIAA). Pitt State struck first four plays into the game. After forcing the Blue Tigers (0-4, 0-4 MIAA) into a three-and-out, Marquise Cushon blocked a punt that Israel Maselera recovered in the LU end zone for a touchdown. The Gorillas used a Nate Dreiling interception to set up a short touchdown run and Graylon Sanders returned a fumble 17 yards for a score during the frenzy. Briceton Wilson added a pair of touchdowns, scoring on runs of 1 and 8 yards later in the quarter, and Trezz Tillman added an eight-yard TD scamper.
