They lost their best player, Christian Eriksen, in the opening match, and then lost that game against Finland and were beaten in a thrilling game against Belgium. But the Belgians’ dominance, combined with Finland and Russia failing to build on early group success, left the door open for Denmark to storm through – which they did with a 4-1 victory at home against Russia. Putting the Finnish shock aside, the Danes have been improving: high energy, real intent. They lose the packed home crowd but the confidence is really flowing now. None of that should discount from another remarkable effort from Wales, who battled through a difficult group and showed great front in each clash. This is a difficult betting game as the Welsh – despite being rank outsiders – are proving themselves a real tournament team, with their star duo of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsay leading a spirited band of followers, particularly the impressive Championship pair of Kieffer Moore and Connor Roberts.
