District and Community Libertyville High School is located approximately 40 miles north of in Lake County. Community High School District 128 serves the communities of Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mettawa, Mundelein, Rondout and Vernon Hills, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas. LHS, along with , is one of two, four-year comprehensive high schools in Community High School District 128 and ranks among the most challenging in and the nation. U.S. News & World Report ranks LHS and VHHS among the top 21 Illinois high schools, and in the top 2% of all public high schools nationally. District 128 also was named to the College Board's 4th Annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. Recognition Libertyville High School is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and is a member of IACAC, NACAC and the College Board. Libertyville High School is a 1990 recipient of the U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. Libertyville High School has received many honors including the School Search Bright A+ Award of Excellence and Bright Red Apple Award, the SchoolMatch “What Parents Want” Award, and being named to the U.S. News & World Report 2016 annual ranking of the Best American High Schools. LHS ranked #19 in the Washington Post’s 2016 “Top 25 Most Challenging High Schools in Illinois,” and was named the top public high school in Lake County by Chicago Magazine

(Sept. 2016). School LHS has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students. The academic school year consists of two semesters, each divided into two grading periods. The school day is divided into eight 50-minute periods. Five teachers hold doctorates. Sixteen LHS teachers are National Board Certified Teachers.
