ALLAN DENNIS There are times when we can be swept along with what is happening in our lives and there are times in our lives when we need to create what opportunities might be there for us next. How we respond to those times makes us who we are, what we can do, and how we can do it. This year - this time right now - is exactly that for MYAC and I hope you will all dream the dream with us. Covid-19 put us in our bunkers and, at the same time, helped us realize how much we need to create music and be with others. The opportunity had become too easy for us to play a Brahms Symphony or a Duke Ellington chart or a meaningful new choral work by Gary Fry or a string quartet by Beethoven. Those opportunities to experience greatness were too common-place and I’m not sure we did our best to experience them. Now we all are so excited to be together playing music that we realize how important it is to us, to our inner selves, to our basic being. But, in the process, we need to PERSEVERE TODAY and power through these difficult times. When Covid-19 struck we all appropriately went into our “bunkers” and went into “protect ourselves” mode but MYAC’s Board of Directors, Staff, Faculty and even our students and parents realized that this is the time for MYAC to be planning for the next 25 years. While we have a chance to think about our mission “to build a home with the power of music to enrich the lives of our students and their communities”, while we had a chance to dream about what we might do to open our music and life learning environment to more and different students and families, while we objectively looked at what we are now as an organization, we started to CREATE TOMORROW by thinking what we want to be when we come out of this. This is a year like 2000 was for MYAC. We moved into this beautiful building and started Jazz and Choral Programs soon after because we had the room and interest. This year will go down in our history books as a turning point in MYAC’s legacy, a pivotal time of growth and leadership. We will come out of this year stronger, more dedicated and more focused on reaching more students and having them realize the beauty and value music brings into our lives. Thank you for joining us in this amazing opportunity year! PERSEVERE TODAY, CREATE TOMORROW!!! Sincerely, Allan Dennis MYAC Founder & President 7 8 BRILLIANCE AWAITS.
