In North America • 200,000 electrified vehicles in 2017; more than 1.7 million in 2025 • A market multiplied by 9 by 2025 • Plug-in hybrid vehicles would represent two thirds of the market with 1.2 million in 2025. They use fossil fuel and electricity through both an internal combus- tion engine and an electric motor. These vehicles have an electric bat- tery that can be recharged while traveling via the deceleration ener- gy recovery, or in an ordinary mains outlet when powered off. Plug-in hybrid can run in all-electric mode independently of the internal com- bustion engine.
