Transliteration und Namen Für die Transliterierung kyrillisch geschriebener Sprachen (Ukrainisch, Russisch) verwende ich die deutsche Bibliothekstransliteration. Jiddische Texte werden nach der heute üblichen YIVO-Transkription übertragen, nur der Schriftsteller Scholem Alejchem (Pseudonym für Sholem Rabinovitsh/Šolom Rabinovič) bleibt in seiner im Deutschen gebräuchlichen Form. In Analogie zur Unterscheidung russkij – rossijskij gebrauche ich im Deutschen das Wort russisch nur in den Fällen, in denen es um die Sprache, um eine ethnische Zuschreibung oder um eine nationale Identität geht. Wenn es sich jedoch um ein Adjektiv in Bezug auf den Staat Russland handelt, verwende ich das Wort russländisch. Personennamen werden in der Regel nach ihrer (vermuteten) ethno-konfessionellen Identität geschrieben, was häufig nicht mit der Schreibung in den Quellen übereinstimmt. Das heißt, bei einem polnischen Familiennamen wird auch für den Vornamen die polni- sche Variante verwendet, also Wincenty Potocki und nicht Vinzenz Potocki. Dieses System kann leider nicht in aller Konsequenz durchgehalten werden, da es vor allem bei der Schrei- bung der Ruthenen zweifelhafte Fälle gibt. Hier verwende ich zumeist die heutige ukraini- sche Schreibweise, auch wenn im Galizien des 19. Jahrhunderts eine polnische Transkrip- tion absolut üblich war. Nur bei den Russophilen des 20. Jahrhunderts, die eine explizit russische Identität hatten, greife ich auf die russischen Namensvarianten zurück. Gänzlich unmöglich ist dieses System bei jüdischen Namen durchzuhalten, die zwischen jiddischer, deutscher und polnischer Vornamensschreibweise oszillieren müssten. Tendenziell wird hier die deutsche Variante bevorzugt, also Salomon Rapoport und nicht Shloyme oder Szlomo Rapoport. Bei Ortsnamen wird, sofern es eine halbwegs gebräuchliche deutsche Form gibt, diese auch verwendet, wie beispielsweise Lemberg, Kiew, Kolomea usw. Ansonsten wird die zum jeweiligen

    Appendices I. Archival Sources Archival research for this monograph was conducted in Lviv, the former capital of Galicia, in 1983. To orient myself in the rich archival holdings of this city, I benefitted from the unpublished manuscript of Patricia K. Grimsted's forthcoming guide to Soviet Ukrainian archives and manuscript repositories' as well as from a number of published works.' Plans to use archives in Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk were frustrated, as was the plan to use the manuscript collection of the Institute of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (in Kiev). Work in the Austrian archives in 1982 did not uncover sources of direct relevance to the subject of this monograph, but the Viennese archives remain an important and little-explored repository of historical documentation on Galician history. The richest collection of unpublished sources on the history of Galicia during the Austrian period is located in the Central State Historical Archives of the Ukrainian SSR in Lviv (U Tsentrainyi derzhavnyi istorychnyi arkhiv URSR u rn. Lvovi; abbre- viated as TsDIAL). The Central Archives have inherited the papers of various Galician government institutions and major civic organizations. Unfortunately, there is no published guide to these archives, although a number of articles describe aspects of their holdings.'     Tzadik righteous one", pl. tzadikim [tsadi" , צדיק :Tzadik/Zadik/Sadiq [tsaˈdik] (Hebrew ,ṣadiqim) is a title in Judaism given to people considered righteous צדיקים [kimˈ such as Biblical figures and later spiritual masters. The root of the word ṣadiq, is ṣ-d- tzedek), which means "justice" or "righteousness". The feminine term for a צדק) q righteous person is tzadeikes/tzaddeket. Tzadik is also the root of the word tzedakah ('charity', literally 'righteousness'). The term tzadik "righteous", and its associated meanings, developed in Rabbinic thought from its Talmudic contrast with hasid ("pious" honorific), to its exploration in Ethical literature, and its esoteric spiritualisation in Kabbalah.     Hydrologic effects of climate change in the Western Bug basin Thomas Pluntke1, Klemens Barfus1, Andriy Myknovych2 and Christian Bernhofer1 1 Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology of the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, 2 Faculty of Geography, Department of Applied Geography and Cartography of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukraine Introduction Presented work is embedded in the project “International Water Alliance Saxony” (IWAS, http://www.iwas-sachsen.ufz.de/), which aims at solving water management problems in five regions of the world, namely Eastern Europe, Mongolia, Brazil, Vietnam and Oman. For Eastern Europe the river Western Bug (herein after called Bug) in Ukraine, Poland and Belarus was chosen, because of its poor river water quality, insufficient and bad water infrastructure and its location at the border of the European Union. Pollution loads from punctual and diffuse sources are high, due to insufficient water treatment and formerly intensive agriculture. The knowledge of the water balance is an indispensable prerequisite to determine the matter balance of the catchment. A quantification of all diffuse and punctual pollution sources is required to search for the reasons of the poor river quality in most parts of the catchments and to show options to improve the situation. Changes in the natural and anthropogenic conditions - as for instance climate or land use - have to be considered, because they can affect the local water and matter flows negatively but also positively. There are indications that in Ukraine droughts could occur more frequent, for floods no clear signal was found (Lehner et al., 2006). After an evaluation of the past and current state of the system, the second step is the development of model-based future scenarios.

The purpose of the study is to examine the origins, iconog- raphy and artistic-stylistic features of the world-known miracle-working icons of the Mother of God “Salus Populi Romani” (“Salvation of the Ro- man People”) and “Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso” (“The Mother of God of Perpetual Help”) and their copies that became widespread in the pictorial art of Ukraine in the 17th – 21st centuries. Methodology. A complex method of the research in the icon-painting was applied in this study: historical, art history and philosophical-theological approaches (the latter is mandatory because of the liturgical designation of icon-painting as it has clearly es- tablished rules and canons). Applying artistic analysis the fact is asserted that the known Roman miracle-working icons of the Mother of God “Salus Populi Romani” and “Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso” as well as their numerous copies in Ukraine in the 17th – 21st centuries represent separate iconographic types of iconography of the Mother of God and are included in the class of the Blessed Virgin Mary icons. The importance of the study is also predetermined by the concrete scientific task that implies generaliza- tion of the materials found in the national and foreign literature. Research results. Copies of the known miracle-working Roman icons of the Mother of God have been studied: over 20 icons «Salus Populi Romani” and over 50 icons “Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso” of the above said historical period.
