Wetlands Biodiversity (2018) 8: 113-148 THE MACROLEPIDOPTERA (INSECTA) OF THE RAZELM-SINOE LAGOON COMPLEX (DOBROGEA, ROMANIA) Levente Székely Received: 04.06.2018 / Accepted: 04.07.2018 Abstract: The Danube Delta is one of the most important biosphere reserves of Europe. The most important component of this reserve stands for the Razelm-Sinoe Lagoon Complex placed in the southern part of the Danube Delta. In this work are shown the outmost results of Macrolepidoptera fauna (Insecta: Lepidoptera) of this region, based on faunistic research carried out during 2007-2018, in over 40 collecting trips. 552 species of Macrolepidoptera are listed, and as a new approach, the species are presented according to the most characteristic habitats they can be found in. The most important Macrolepidoptera species in this area are Megaspilates mundataria (Stoll, 1782), Eublemma porphyrinia (Freyer, 1845) and Cucullia argentina (Fabricius, 1787), only to be found in Europe in this region (on The European Union territory). A special attention shall be paid to a series of very rare species, located in this region, that are known in Romania, especially on the territory of the Razelm-Sinoe Lagoon Complex, e.g.: Lasiocampa eversmanni (Eversmann, 1843), Narraga tessularia (Metzner, 1845), Chariaspilates formosaria (Eversmann, 1837), Scopula orientalis (Alphéraky, 1876), Idaea sericeata (Hubner, [1813]), Eupithecia variostrigata (Alphéraky, 1876), Eupithecia biornata (Christoph, 1867), Ocnogyna parasita (Hübner, 1790), Rhyparioides metelkana (Lederer, 1861), Grammodes bifasciata (Petagna, 1787), Clytie syriaca (Bugnion, 1837), Leucania punctosa (Treitscke, 1825), Protarchanara brevilinea (Fenn, 1864), Dychagyris melanura (Kollar, 1846), Cervina (Gortyna) cervago (Eversmann, 1844), Cucullia biornata (Fischer v. RIASSUNTO Gli autori precisano ulteriormente lo stato della fauna dei macrolepidotteri italiani fornendo aggiunte e correzioni riguardanti oltre cinquecento specie. I dati sono stati aggiornati sulla base delle più recenti pubblicazioni mantenendo, però, i nomi dei generi presenti nel lavoro principale per favorirne la consultazione. Parole chiave: zoogeografia, regione mediterranea, paleartide, corologia, distribuzione. INTRODUZIONE A due anni dalla pubblicazione del corpo principale de: “I macrolepidotteri italiani. Witt (* 2. 9. 1947, † 28. 1. 2019). Spixia- na 42 (2): 161-176. Prof. Dr. h. c. Dipl.-Kfm. Thomas J. Witt who deceased on 28 January 2019 was a great entomologist. He published 189 scientific papers including eight compre- hensive monographs and supported many other monographs as editor. He de- scribed hundreds of new species for science, financed and organized more than 100 collecting expeditions worldwide, and promoted 22 major research projects, usually participating in the research himself. Witt supported numerous young scientists and made many visits of guest researchers possible, in Munich and in other museums. He built up and established the world largest private research collection comprising about five million Lepidoptera, which in part were directly donated to the state of Bavaria, and in part were transferred into the public “Thomas Witt foundation”. Similarly, his great activities in the digitization of his collection including more than 3400 name bearing type specimens (accessible online under www.insecta-web.org/MWM/) are remarkable. The global scientific com- munity esteemed Thomas Witt for his outstanding achievements. In the year of 2001 the Zoologische Staatssammlung in Munich awarded him the “Ritter von Spix-Medal for outstanding scientific achievements”. In 2013 he received the title of Dr.

As an entomologist during his life he focused on the nepticulid micromoths. The lepidopteran family Nepticulidae belongs to the invertebrate groups with high economic and scientific interest. The tiny nepticulid caterpillars mine between the epidermises of leaves of their host plants causing severe altera- tion in the quality and quantity of the biomass the plant produces. As they mine the caterpillars leave characteristic pattern which is also preserved in dried or fossilized leaves. So nepticulids offer the hitherto known earliest records of Neolepidoptera for the great interest of entomologists working on insect classification (GRIMALDI &ENGEL 2005: 572).

Se semnalează specia din Dobrogea, pe baza unei femele fotografiate în natură. Cuvinte cheie: Ocnogyna parasita, Erebidae, Dobrogea, România Abstract Ocnogyna parasita Hb.has not been recorded in Romania for the last 55 years. We report one female individual from Dobrogea, based on a nature photograph. Keywords: Ocnogyna parasita, Erebidae, Dobrogea, România Ocnogyna parasita Hb. nu a mai fost semnalată din România de 55 de ani, ultima semnalare fiind din 1969 de laTimisoara (KÖNIG, 1975, p. 196; 1 mascul 10.III.1969). Semnalările anterioare sunt rare şi sporadice, acestea rezumându-se la: Tulcea (MANN 1866); Munţii Rodnei (PAX, 1906); Timişoara, Pădurea Verde 1948-1969 (leg. F. König) (KÖNIG, 1975); Iaşi (Copou) înainte de 1960 (leg. Alexinschi) (NEMEŞ & VOICU, 1973); Agigea 1963 (leg. Alexinschi) (NEMEŞ & VOICU, 1973). La aceste semnalări se mai pot adăuga cele ale lui Ostrogovich, din afara graniţelor actuale ale ţării: Bazargic, Balcic (1931-1933, ex. larva ) (leg. Ostrogovich) (POPESCU- GORJ 1964). Mare a fost surpriza când unul dintre autori (C. Manci) a reuşit să observe şi fotografieze femela în data de 10 aprilie 2013 lângă Gura Dobrogei (jud Constanţa) (fig. 1,2), într-o zona stepică destul de stâncoasă. Exemplarul fotografiat a fost observat la nivelul solului, deplasându-se prin vegetaţie. Biologie: fluturii zboară sau mai bine spus, sunt activi în martie-aprilie. Femela are aripi parţial atrofiate (brahipteră) şi nu zboară, fapt pentru care se observă greu şi rar.

Material was collected in 11 localities, 189 species are new for the explored area. One species: Mirificarma maculatella (Hübner, 1796) is new for the Bulgarian fauna. This list do not pretended to be complete, it is a preliminarily one. Key words: Lepidoptera, Bulgaria, faunistic, Sredna Gora Mts. Introduction The moths of Sarnena Gora Mts are not studied in detail. Some species records were published by Nedyalkov (1909) for Stara Zagora, and by Tuleshkov (1965), mainly for the area of Stara Zagora City and Starozagorski Mineralni Bani Resort. Data for some new and rare for Bulgaria species, collected near Buzovgrad Village are presented in the article of Bocharov (1959). Here we summarize all these records and report some new ones mainly from a house yard in Hrishteni village, approximately 7 km east of Stara Zagora City and from three nights collecting at light above Stara Zagora City.
