  • The Humanism of Satyajit Ray, His Last Will and Testament Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri
AGANTUK – The Humanism of Satyajit Ray, His Last Will And Testament Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri It’s impossible to record the transition in the socio-political and cultural landscape of India in general and Bengal in particular without taking into account the contribution of Satyajit Ray. As author Peter Rainer says, ‘In Ray’s films the old and the new are inextricably joined. This is the great theme of all his movies: the way the past in India forever bleeds through the present.’ Today, Indian cinema, particularly Bollywood, has found a global market. But it may be useful to remember that if anyone can be credited with putting Indian cinema on the world map, it is Satyajit Ray. He pioneered a whole new sensibility about films and filmmaking that compelled the world to reshape its perception of Indian cinema. ‘What we need,’ he wrote in 1947, before he ever directed a film, ‘is a style, an idiom, a part of the iconography of cinema which would be uniquely and recognizably Indian.’ This Still from the documentary, The Music of Satyajit Ray he achieved, and yet, like all great artists, his films went Watch film here- https://bit.ly/3u8orOD beyond the frontiers of countries and cultures. His contribution to the cultural scene in India is limited not just to his work as a director. He was the Renaissance man of independent India. As a film-maker he handled almost all the departments on his own – he wrote the screenplay and dialogues for his film, he composed his own music, designed the promotional material for his films, designed his own posters, went on to handle the cinematography and editing, was actively involved in the costumes (literally sketching each and every costume in a film).

  • Satyajit Ray's the Adventures of Feluda
SATYAJIT RAY’S THE ADVENTURES OF FELUDA SATYAJIT RAY: AN INTRODUCTION SATYAJIT RAY, (BORN MAY 2, 1921, CALCUTTA, INDIA—DIED APRIL 23, 1992, CALCUTTA), BENGALI MOTION-PICTURE DIRECTOR, WRITER, AND ILLUSTRATOR WHO BROUGHT THE INDIAN CINEMA TO WORLD RECOGNITION WITH PATHER PANCHALI (1955; THE SONG OF THE ROAD) AND ITS TWO SEQUELS, KNOWN AS THE APU TRILOGY. AS A DIRECTOR RAY WAS NOTED FOR HIS HUMANISM, HIS VERSATILITY, AND HIS DETAILED CONTROL OVER HIS FILMS AND THEIR MUSIC. HE WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMMAKERS OF THE 20TH CENTURY. In 1940 his mother persuaded him to attend art school at Santiniketan, Rabindranath Tagore’s rural university northwest of Calcutta. There Ray, whose interests had been exclusively urban and Western-oriented, was exposed to Indian and other Eastern art and gained a deeper appreciation of both Eastern and Western culture, a harmonious combination that is evident in his films. Returning to Calcutta, Ray in 1943 got a job in a British-owned advertising agency, became its art director within a few years, and also worked for a publishing house as a commercial illustrator, becoming a leading Indian typographer and book-jacket designer. Among the books he illustrated (1944) was the novel Pather Panchali by Bibhuti Bhushan Banarjee, the cinematic possibilities of which began to intrigue him. (W. Andrew Robinson) The film took two-and-a-half years to complete, with the crew, most of whom lacked any experience whatsoever in motion pictures, working on an unpaid basis. Pather Panchali was completed in 1955 and turned out to be both a commercial and a tremendous critical success, first in Bengal and then in the West following a major award at the 1956 Cannes International Film Festival.

See more See More Pradosh Chandra Mitra (Mitter), a private investigator, is the main character in a series of detectives written by Satyajit Ray. Better known by his nickname Feluda, Pradosh Chandra Mitra is a Bengali detective who unravels mysteries using his shrewd intellect. Feluda is described as a tall and athletic person who is well versed in martial arts and can handle firearms with ease. But, he rarely uses these skills, preferring to solve crimes with his analytical skills, supported by his sharp surveillance powers. Feluda is the son of a professor who taught mathematics and Sanskrit. He, too, begins his career in the teaching profession before he decides to use his skills to solve crimes. His teaching experience leaves its mark on him as he enjoys lecturing even at home. Feluda has a loyal friend in his young cousin Tapesh Ranjan Mitre, who is commonly called Topshe. Topshe is the perfect foil for Feluda, similar to Watson's character in the TV series Sherlock Holmes. He diligently records all of Feluda's exploits, as does Watson. Another interesting character is Lalmohan Ganguly, who is a close friend of Feluda. He writes crime fiction under the pseudonym Jatay. He is a comic figure in the band, providing easy relief in history. Feluda made his debut in 1965 in the Bengali children's magazine Sandesh. His first adventure was called Feluda Goondagiri.

  • DETECTIVE FICTION Feluda Is One of Satyajit Ray's Greatest Creations
DETECTIVE FICTION Feluda is one of Satyajit Ray’s greatest creations but is he too brilliant for the movies? Although Ray’s version of ‘Sonar Kella’ is a fan favourite, ‘Joi Baba Felunath’ points to the perils of adaptation. Nandini Ramnath Jun 07, 2021 · 10:30 am Soumitra Chatterjee in Joi Baba Felunath (1979) | RD Bansal Productions Satyajit Ray’s novel The Mystery of the Elephant God begins with a peek into its creator’s precise mind. The private detective Feluda berates the hyperbole-prone novelist Jatayu for describing the Durga puja celebrations in Varanasi as “spectacular”. The word is banal and doesn’t explain why the event is important, Feluda tells Jatayu. When Jatayu elaborates, “I still remember my eyes and ears being dazzled by what I saw,” Feluda finally approves. This description appeals to the senses, he says. Ray adapted the book into a movie in 1979. Joi Baba Felunath was Ray’s second Feluda adaptation after Sonar Kella. In both films, the same set of actors played the casually sexy sleuth, his loyal cousin and sidekick Topshe and their hilarious pulp fiction writer friend Jatayu. Giving Soumitra Chatterjee, Siddhartha Chatterjee and Santosh Dutta company in Joi Baba Felunath was Utpal Dutt as the sinister Maganlal Meghraj. The Bengali-language movie, which is being streamed on Mubi India, is entertaining enough. Yet, it underscores the conundrum of a brilliant director unable to keep up with his brilliant writing. Ray cut out the plot points that were possibly difficult to film and changed the ending, weakening the mystery in the process.

Over his career Ray only made three detective movies – The Zoo (Chiriyakhana, 1967), The Golden Fortress (Sonar Kella, 1974), and Joi Baba Felunath: The Elephant God (Joi Baba Felunath, 1979) – the latter two of which were based on his Feluda novels. Nevertheless, these three films were all hits with the public, particularly The Golden Fortress . The story of The Golden Fortress concerns events surrounding a young boy’s memories, or dreams, of a past life when he supposedly lived in a golden fortress. In particular the boy’s vivid memories of seeing many jewels there inspire some criminals to kidnap him in hopes that he will lead them to a lost treasure. Ray has fashioned this tale as something of a family- oriented adventure, using typecast characters, comic elements, and some exotic backgrounds to liven up the proceedings. The Adventures of Feluda: • The Adventures of Feluda, the stories were written with a younger audience in mind. 1 • Ray wrote the first Feluda story Feludar Goendagiri (Danger in Darjelling) in 1965 while reviving an old family magazine, Sandesh, and because of its popularity, he wrote a total of thirty-four works in all. • It features a private investigator Prodosh/Pradosh Mitter (the anglicized version of Mitra), known as Feluda .

Establishing globally accepted easy-to-access diagnostic tests is extremely important to understanding the epidemiology of the present pandemic. While [email protected], nucleic acid-based tests are more sensitive with respect to serological tests, but the present [email protected], gold standard RT-PCR-based assays possess limitations such as low sample throughput, mgoodin.uky.edu requirement for sophisticated reagents and instrumentation. To overcome these shortcomings, recent efforts of incorporating LAMP-based isothermal detection, and minimizing the number of Keywords: SARS-CoV-2, Covid-19, reagents required are on rise. Novel CRISPR- and other nuclease-based techniques, when merge CRISPR diagnostics, molecular testing, with isothermal and allied technologies, promises to provide sensitive and rapid detection of diagnostic advancements SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acids. Here we discuss and present compilation of state-of-the-art CRISPR based detection techniques for use in COVID diagnosis and epidemiology. Introduction: symptom onset, serological tests may suffer from a high rate of false-negative reporting due to low titer of IgM or A group of patients showing presence of pneumonia of IgG antibodies in blood samples [6].
