• Duke had 13 teams ranked in the top 10 nationally throughout the year — men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s fencing, women’s fencing, fi eld hockey, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis — and 14 ranked in the top 25, including rowing.

• Duke captured one individual and one team national championship in 2012-13, as men’s diver Nick McCrory claimed the NCAA title in platform diving and the men’s lacrosse team defeated Syracuse 16-10 in the national championship game. Duke has claimed at least one individual or team national crown in fi ve consecutive years and in eight of the last nine years.

• Four teams captured ACC Championships with women’s basketball winning both the regular season and tournament titles. • Several Blue Devils were honored with national service awards in 2012- 13. Sean Renfree (football) was named to the AFCA Good Works Team and also received the Pop Warner National College Football Award. Tyler Thornton (men’s basketball) was named to the Allstate NABC Good Hands Team and was also named the Sports Illustrated College Athlete of the Year. Renfree, Tara Campbell (women’s soccer) and Mason Plumlee (men’s basketball) were all fi nalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

• Duke student-athletes logged approximately 2,000 hours of community service in 2012-13.

• Several coaches reached milestones in 2012-13, including women’s soccer coach Robbie Church (150th win at Duke), men’s lacrosse coach John Danowski (100th win at Duke), women’s basketball coach Joanne P. McCallie (150th win at Duke), volleyball coach Jolene Nagel (500th win overall, 300th win at Duke) and men’s tennis coach Ramsey Smith (100th win overall).

Glen Lanham was promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the Duke wrestling program on April 16, 2012. In his fi rst season as head coach, Lanham guided Duke to nine wins and mentored a pair of NCAA qualifi ers in Brandon Gambucci and Conner Hartmann. Gambucci earned All-ACC honors and was also the ACC runner-up at 133 pounds. The team also placed a league-high six student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team.

Freshman Alexis Jones was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 24 points in the championship game and averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds for the tournament.

• Bolstered by the 2013 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and an individual NCAA Championship by Nick McCrory in men’s platform diving, Duke fi nished 12th in the fi nal 2012-13 Learfi eld Sports Directors’ Cup Standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics on June 27. • The Directors’ Cup rankings measure an athletic program’s comprehensive sports success by totaling points based on a team’s fi nish in national competition. • The university’s academic support oversight committee continued to review and discuss “best practices” for providing academic support to the student-athlete population while analyzing student-athlete data related to Independent Study registrations, course enrollment limits, course withdrawals, underloads, major and grade point average.

• Six Duke student-athletes earned Academic All-America honors: Juliet Bottorff (women’s track) Brinson Paolini (men’s golf), Mollie Pathman (women’s soccer), Mason Plumlee (men’s basketball), Perry Simmons (football) and Laura Weinberg (women’s soccer).

 ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE RATE • All 26 of Duke university’s varsity athletics teams scored 978 points or higher (out of a possible 1,000) on the multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) report.

• Of Duke’s 26 teams, 18 achieved a perfect 1,000 APR for the 2011-12 academic year. An ACC-leading 15 Duke teams were honored for fi nishing in the top 10 percent nationwide.

• The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.

• Of Duke’s 26 varsity athletics teams, 18 posted a perfect 100 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR). The 92 percent by Duke’s football team was among the best in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

• Twenty-fi ve of Duke’s 26 teams had a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester and spring semester.

• Over 82 Duke student-athletes made the Dean’s List in the fall, while over 90 received that honor in the spring.

• Duke led all ACC schools in bowl game ticket sales following the football team’s berth in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C. • Women’s basketball ranked 15th nationally in attendance. • The men’s basketball team sold out all 16 home games, extending a streak of 355 consecutive home sellouts. The Blue Devils went 16-0 in those home games in 2012-13. • A sellout crowd of 33,491 fans fi lled Wallace Wade Stadium for the Duke- North Carolina football game, which Duke won 33-30 in the closing minute. • The marketing and promotions department partnered with various student groups, including The Inferno, to grow attendance at all Duke home events. The Inferno saw student membership of more than 2,500 this year.

 THE CAMERON SELLOUT STREAK • Duke men’s basketball has sold out Cameron Indoor Stadium for every home game since Nov. 26, 1990 for a streak of 355 consecutive sellouts.

• Cameron Indoor Stadium has seen Duke post a 323-32 record during the sellout streak, including eight unbeaten seasons at home and a school-record home court win streak of 46 games from 1997-2000. The Blue Devils are currently on a 24-game win streak on Coach K Court.

• Duke is 800-153 all-time in Cameron Indoor Stadium, including a 442-58 record under Coach K.

 DUKE ATHLETICS IN THE COMMUNITY  ACC TOP SIX FOR SERVICE • Modeling the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program commitment to service learning projects and outreach, over 500 Duke student-athletes participated in approximately 2,000 hours of community service and leadership across various organizations in the Duke and Durham community during the 2012-13 academic year. • Six Duke student-athletes from six different programs were honored by the ACC with the Top Six for Service Award. • The community service efforts of Duke student-athletes allowed them to partner with neighboring colleges for several projects, including the MLK Million Meals Event with N.C. Six Duke student-athletes were honored with the ACC Top Six for Service Award, an honor presented annually to six student- athletes from each ACC institution who demonstrate dedication to community service and outreach programs.

The criteria for this award are determined by each individual school recognizing student-athletes that have demonstrated outstanding community service and community relations. A Top Six for Service award recipient should be dedicated to serving others and have shown a passion for enriching the lives of others.

By reading for 15 minutes for 12 nights, a youngster is able to reach various levels and earn Blue Devil gifts along the way. Among the prizes given out are autographed team photos, posters, t-shirts and chances to meet Duke student-athletes at various functions.

• Duke student-athletes also visit local schools to read to groups of students and encourage their love of reading.

• The goals of the Read With The Blue Devils program are to: • Encourage young kids to read at an early age • Reach at-risk children to provide positive reinforcement and enhance their chance for success • Show children that reading can be fun • Provide incentives to get children to learn goal-setting skills, attain levels of achievement and improve reading skills and habits. • Reach teachers and parents to provide support to kids by encouraging reading

• The Duke athletics compliance staff instituted a department-specifi c education program in 2012-13 to raise the level of awareness of NCAA regulations and impending changes with each respective support service and all non-coaching staff members of the athletics department. • A heavy focus of Duke’s compliance initiatives was the growing social media environment and how it affects the compliance ramifi cations of the university’s student-athletes, coaches and staff. The staff continued its efforts to educate all groups on the potential compliance risks of using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. • Following the the recent NCAA legislation regarding head coach responsibility and enforcement model changes, the compliance staff met with all coaching staffs individually to explain the changes. • Compliance continued to interact with staff members at Coaches Roundtable meetings, committing to make the offi ce a presence at the regular gathering of Duke’s coaches through dialogue and presentations. • Compliance instituted a successful education and planning program with academic coordinators. No student-athlete who passed all classes missed practice or competition as a result of a failure to meet progress- toward-degree requirements, and no waivers were required to meet those requirements.

 IMG COLLEGE • Duke Athletics wrapped up its fi fth year of radio/marketing/corporate rights fee agreement with IMG College. The 12-year deal bundles media, sponsorship and technology rights into one contract and grows sponsorship revenue to the department in managing the challenging fi nanacial climate. Duke continues to be a premier partner for IMG College, placing the Blue Devils at the forefront of collegiate athletics marketing. • Duke also continued to grow its relationship with IMG Learfi eld Ticket Solutions, an agreement which established an active outbound season and group ticket offi ce in 2011 to supplement the current ticket offi ce.

 TICKET SALES • Duke led all ACC schools in bowl game ticket sales after the Blue Devils appeared in the Belk Bowl this past December. • Ticket revenue exceeded the budget for men’s basketball as marketing worked to fi ll the lower level seats to ensure capacity for all games.

 UNIVERSITY RELATIONS • A year after implementing the fi rst phase of the Duke Athletics Library Fund, Duke Athletics added football revenue to the program, which allots $1 from every ticket sold for an unrestricted fund for Duke Libraries. Currently, football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and baseball all drive revenue to the library. • Duke athletics worked with various student groups to grow attendance at home events, beginning with New Devils Night in the fall. The department also increased the The Inferno — Duke’s student support organization — by over 2,500 members.

 PUBLIC RELATIONS & COMMUNICATIONS • Working together to enhance the Duke athletics brand, Sports Information, New Media and the newly christened Blue Devil Network formulated the area’s fi rst strategic plan in the fall of 2012.  IRON DUKES MAJOR GIFTS • As the university embarks on the comprehensive Duke Forward fundraising campaign, Athletics’ focus on Building Champions has proven to be a priority with an anticipated goal of $250 million including $100 million for much needed improvements to capital projects and $50 million for endowments.

 IRON DUKES HERITAGE SOCIETY • The Iron Dukes Heritage Society honors alumni and friends who have included Duke Athletics in their estate plans or have made some other type of planned gift to Duke Athletics. Members are invited to recognition events and are counted among the university’s most valued supporters.

 LEGACY FUND • The Duke Basketball Legacy Fund is a unique and intimate donor program established to endow the basketball program as well as fi nance basketball related projects. • Duke Sports Performance aims to provide all 26 Duke Athletics teams with a competitive edge by empowering each athlete to achieve personal and athletic success through high-level, challenging sports performance plans. • The Murray Building, home of the Duke training and weight rooms, reccently underwent major renovations to become a premier facility for training Duke student-athletes. The facility now includes 10 Power Lift Multi-Use Power Racks, 10,000 pounds of York Bumper Plates, a Keiser Infi nity Series 6-Pack Trainer, two full sets of dumbells up to 130 pounds, three Vertimax Jump Trainers and a full assortment of accessory training equipment on top of Infi nity Max Pro Flooring with 10 in-ground Olympic platforms. • The Murray Building houses facilities for all Duke Olympic sports, while the Yoh Building services the Duke football team and the Michael Krzyzewski Center for Academic and Athletic Excellence is the training home of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. • In conjunction with the entire Duke athletics department, including student-athletes, coaches and staff, Duke produced the “You Can Play” video promoting the acceptance of LGBT athletes across all areas of athletics. Current student-athletes were involved from the conceptual stage to completion. • All three Duke nominees and applicants were accepted to the ACC Futures Internship program: Christiana Gray (volleyball), Taylor Sowell (football) and Emily Theys (rowing). • Field hockey player Devon Gagliardi was selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. • Thirteen student-athletes were selected to participate in Duke Engage’s domestic and abroad programs. • Duke athletes partnered with the Women’s Center to provide PACT sessions to all Duke athletics teams. PACT is a student-facilitated training program that aims to engage all participants in preventing gender violence on Duke’s campus. • Duke earned a top-fi ve fi nish in the NCAA Samaritans Feet program, raising $1,200 that went toward the purchase of shoes for those in need.  SOPHOMORE OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE (S.O.L.E.)

• The Student Athlete Leadership Development Program held two Sophomore Outdoor Leadership Experience (S.O.L.E.) programs during the 2012-13 academic year, the program’s second year of existence.

• Sophomore student-athletes from a number of Duke’s athletic programs ventured to Camp Chestnut Ridge in Efl and, N.C., and participated in a number of activities designed to explore and understand leadership in various capacities and challenge each student-athlete’s comfort zone.

• Leadership theories and practices were discussed and applied throughout the retreat activities, and student-athletes were encouraged to think of ways they could use their experiences with their respective teams. Other accomplished goals included establishing a peer network with other sophomore leaders to become positive agents of change.

• Duke captured its second NCAA Championship in four seasons with a 16-10 victory over Syracuse in the title game. The national championship was the 13th team title in Duke athletics history. • In the championship game, Duke fell behind 5-0 but rattled off a 12-1 run to secure the lead. • Head coach John Danowski is now the fi fth active Division I head coach and 11th all-time to have multiple national titles to his name. • Junior Brendan Fowler was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player. Fowler is the fi rst player to not score a goal or make a save to earn the tournament most valuable player award. • Fowler broke the NCAA single season record for faceoff wins with 339, while hiss 209 ground balls are second all-time in NCAA single season history. • Duke fi nished 16-5 overall and won 14 of its fi nal 15 games after starting 2-4. • Junior Jordan Wolf became the 15th Blue Devil to tally 100 career goals and currently ranks 10th on the Duke career goals list and 10th on the Duke career point list with 201.
