We were amazed to see that the level of community engagement in your village is so high – with 22 members on your committee and a further 20 volunteers who help out. It is also pleasing to see that other voluntary groups such as the local Foroige and Courceys rural development all help out and this illustrates that your work has a broad support of your community. Well done on forming strong links with Cork County Council, Kinsale, Bandon and the Community Employment scheme. The combination of these links and the hard work of the committee and volunteers helps to explain your continued progress in the competition. It is noted that the local businesses also lend their support and this demonstrates that they appreciate your efforts. Your communication strategy is clearly effective and you are commended on embracing both social media and instant messaging as this results in less printed material and less paper waste.

Scealta Scoile! Meitheamh 2015 It’s Summertime! School’s Out! Marymount Hospice Our rang a sé pupils gave us yet another reason to be proud by making a wonderful Confirmation commitment to improving the gardens around nearby Marymount Hospice. Gardening gloves, buckets, forks and hoes were to be seen in action on Friday mornings during the final term, in what is a heart-warming example of how young people can be a force for such good. Aside from the spectacular transformation of the beds and planted areas around Marymount, not to mention the addition of hundreds of euros worth of beautiful flowers, paid for by a cake-sale organised by the pupils, their lively presence around the facility was welcomed and enjoyed immensely by the community there. Sincere thanks to our trusty band of rang a sé parents who did so much to facilitate this work. Is álainn agus is iontach an saothar a deintear i Marymount. • 2010 01 PDO Newsletter
January 2010 ‘Put out int Altum o t he deep’ NEWSLETTER OF THE PASTORAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICE OF THE DIOCESE OF CORK AND ROSS Young adults discuss connection with ‘young church’ he most often asked question by members of new parish assemblies and pastoral councils is: “How do we get young people involved in Church?” TTo explore the question further, the Pastoral Development Of - fice invited a cross-section of young people who are members of parish assemblies and pastoral councils to two meetings. Meetings in Turner’s Cross Parish Centre and in Bandon Parish Centre heard a range of views and ideas. Participants shared the view that most of their peers do have faith but are disconnected from the Church and its rituals. As one person said “We still believe and we want our views to be heard.” For some of the young adults who are involved in parish, this experience can be rewarding but also lonely – there’s a sense that one is alone among a typically older group. Being involved also brings many positives including getting to know new people, understanding the priest and his life better, op - portunities to join new groups and organisations and to go on pil - grimage with other younger people. Some participants also felt that there may be tension between the kind of church experience that would work for younger peo - ple and the experience of the customary Sunday Mass which older people value and which they will be slow to change. Among the suggestions offered as starting points were organis - ing a pilgrimage to WorldYouth Day in 2011 in Madrid, or provid - ing a young person’s section on the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Introduction Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths commenced in Ireland in 1864, though registration of marriages of non‐Roman Catholics was introduced earlier in 1845. The Births, marriages and deaths were registered by geographical areas known as Registration Districts (also known as Superintendent Registrar’s Districts). The boundaries of the registration districts followed the boundaries of the Poor Law Unions created earlier under the 1838 Poor Law Act for the administration of relief to the poor.
