[Hf.~~:J is the very same word that we found before, describing the coincidence of Ephraim's north border in the south border line at Jer.:ichn; where they formed one; so here it singularly occurs·again to desccile one of the most striking and conclusive features of the sketch we have given of these tribes. (4.) !SSACHAR. The outline of the above two tribes marks out to some extent the lot of the tribe of Issachar. It lay to the east of them, along the entire line of the Jordan, from the sea of Chineroth on the north to nearly the Salt Sea on the south, where the border of Benjamin had a small part of it, from the Wady Kelt to the north bay of the sea. Issachar, as a tribe, is not described by Joshua, who only mentions the names of towns contained in it. It did not require description, as the containing boundaries of Ephraim and Manasseh on the wost, with the River Jordan on the east, sufficiently defined it. It was of a triangular form, having its apex at Jericho and its base to the north of the plain of Jezreel, where it was met by the border of Zabulon, and where its chief cities lay. It contained thus a long tract of territory, but as this was for.the most pru:t wilder ness, its dimensions were much greater than its worth, while three great , and fertile districts were taken from it and given to Manasseh. -

Meij August, 2002 “In the beginning….”: Before we can discuss the 12 tribes, what theories are around to what happened to them, and how they impact Freemasonry, it is first important to have some historical background, which starts by looking at one prominent character in the Bible, namely who Jacob was. Jacob is thought to have lived sometime around 1700 BC. He was the second son of Isaac (The second patriarch of Israel, the first being his father, Abraham). Jacob also had a twin brother named Esau. Tradition has it that his mother, Rebekah, was already feeling their presence while they were still in her womb, and that the two soon-to-be-born twins often wrestled each other, causing her to have much pain. Seeking an oracle, Rebekah was told that “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples, born of you, shall be divided: the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger” (Gen 25:23). Esau was the first to be born, but Jacob followed soon, clasping Esau‟s heels. Not much is known about their youths, but one day an important episode takes place, which is also described in the Bible. It is known that while Esau was a skilled hunter, and was stronger, Jacob preferred to stay at home. One day, Esau comes home, exhausted after a hunt, and finds Jacob preparing a pot of lentil soup. Esau asks for some, but Jacob replies “First sell me your birthright” (Gen 25:31). -

MATSATI.COM Teaching Ministry פרשת ויחי Parashat Vayechi Genesis 47:28-50:26, 1 Kings 2:1-12, Luke 4:31-5:11 Dan and Ephraim not mentioned in Revelation This week’s Torah portion, Parashat Vayechi, concludes the book of Bereshit / Genesis. In this last Torah portion, we read how before Jacob died he spoke prophetically over each of his sons, (Bereshit / Genesis 49) then his children buried him in Canaan in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite that Abraham had purchased. (Bereshit / Genesis 49:29) We read on how his brothers were afraid and Joseph said that He was in the place of God, that he forgave them of their sins against him. We read then of Joseph’s death at 110 years old and his command to bury his body in the same location as his fa- ther, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. While reading through this week’s Torah portion, there are a few things that jump out of the text from the blessing that Jacob had spo- ken over his brothers. The two brothers we are interested in are Dan and Joseph specifically: Dan (49:16-18) Dan shall govern his ָּ֖דן ָיִ֣דין ַעּ֑מֹו ְּכַא ַ֖חד ִׁשְב ֵ֥טי ִיְׂשָר ֵֽאל׃ יְ י הִ ־ דָ ן֙נָ ֣ חָ ׁש people, As one of the tribes of Israel.17 ֲעֵל ֶ֔י־דֶרְך ְׁשִפ ֹ֖יפן ֲעֵלֹ֑י־אַרח ַהֹּנֵׁשְ֙ך ִעְּקֵב֔י־סּוס ִַוּי ֹּ֥פל ֹרְכ֖בֹו 1 Digging Deeper Torah Series Dan shall be a serpent by the road, A viper by ָאֽחֹור׃ the path, That bites the horse’s heels So that his rider I wait for ִֽלָיׁשּועְתָ֖ך ִקִּ֥וִיתי ְי ָֽהוה׃ is thrown backward 18 Your deliverance, O LORD!
