I have known Childs for near 25 years and I thought Katz’s treatment of her on the show was quite disrespectful. I know he likes Bielat but he shouldn’t have been treating Childs like a hostile witness under cross examination. She handled herself well though and came across as a good GOP candidate. The GOP winner will take on Joe Joe Joe Kennedy in the November election. Speaking of Katz and Severin Too It appears reportedly that TALK 1200 Boston has let conservative talkers Jeff Katz and Jay Severin go. Andy Dean will replace Katz in the morning and Sean Hannity moves to the 3:00 pm slot. Rush Limbaugh will be taking his show back to WRKO to fill their noon time slot. Also, at WRKO Michele McPhee will co-host the morning show with Todd Feinberg. Severin will remember his first anni- versary at TALK 1200 as his last. I wonder if Beth Childs will be sending Jeff a get well card for getting booted off the air after the way he recently treated her on the air during an interview. • Politicians and Their Professors the Discrepancy Between Climate Science and Climate Policy
Better Future Project 30 Bow Street Cambridge, MA. 02138 Politicians and Their Professors The Discrepancy between Climate Science and Climate Policy By Craig S. Altemose and Hayley Browdy Massachusetts Edition Better Future Project 1 Politicians and Their Professors: The Discrepancy between Climate Science and Climate Policy By Craig Altemose and Hayley Browdy With research and editing assistance provided by Elana Sulakshana, Alli Welton, and Kristen Wraith © 2012, Better Future Project 30 Bow Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 About This Report This report seeks to highlight the discrepancy between the overwhelming consensus on climate change that exists among the nation’s scientific community and the lack of action by federal leaders. Past studies have shown that 97-98% of climate scientists who publish in peer-reviewed journals agree with the consensus that climate change is real, happening now, and man-made. Since many politicians seem to disregard the views of such scientific “elites” as a whole, we decided to compare politicians’ views on climate change to those of the climate experts at their alma maters. These politicians clearly valued the expertise of the academics at their schools enough that they chose to (usually) spend tens of thousands of dollars and up to four years of their lives absorbing knowledge from these institutions’ experts. We thought that even if these politicians choose to disregard the consensus of national experts, they might be persuaded by the consensus of the higher education institutions in which they trusted enough to invest great amounts of their time and money. This report and the research supporting it are available online at www.betterfutureproject.org/resources.

The Transom Review Vol. 1/Issue 13 Christopher Lydon’s Topic About Christopher Lydon Christopher Lydon has been an unconventional voice in print and broadcast journalism for more than 30 years-covering presidential politics in the Washington bureau of the New York Times; anchoring the “Ten O'Clock News” on WGBH, public television in Boston; and as the founder and host of "The Connection" at WBUR since 1994. He "blends the expansiveness of the Renaissance thinker with a trademark Boston toughness," the Boston Globe observes. Born in Boston in 1940, he graduated from the Roxbury Latin School and Yale. Lydon ran for mayor of Boston in 1993 in a citizens' campaign for radical school reform. Christopher Lydon Links Christopher Lydon's Website www.christopherlydon.org "The Connection" Archives www.theconnection.org A Word From Jay Allison September 21, 2001 It may seem an odd time to focus on craft, but craft is often what gets you through. The ability to do the job well is always important, and especially in a crisis. Further, our chosen work -- radio -- is essential in any modern crisis. Much depends on our skill, more than we sometimes know. Certainly radio is important as a lifeline, a communication link, but also... for conversation, for connection. If you live within earshot of Boston -- or anywhere else “The Connection” aired under Christopher Lydon's hostship -- you know he is one of the finest practitioners of the radio talk show craft, ever.
