MICRO SAMPLE BEFORE THE SIX-PACK: Today marks the first of two spring matchups between these two clubs during the 2014 Cactus League (also Thursday, March 13 in Peoria)...the two clubs are scheduled to face off six times during the regular season, the first of which comes April 21-23 at Miller Park in Milwaukee while the second is August 25-27 at .

TOMMY BOY: Tommy Medica has appeared in eight of nine games for the Padres this spring and has safely in seven of those contests...his seven- game hitting streak is currently the longest active spring streak in the Majors...the 25-year old has gone 11-for-20 (.550/.550/.950) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI so far in Cactus League play, the best average in the Majors among qualified hitters while his hits are tied for first, OPS is second (1.500), on-base percentage is tied for second and slugging percentage is third...Medica finished the 2013 season on a five-game hitting streak for the Padres, going 9-for-19 (.474) with a double, a , four walks and four RBI, tied with CLE Jason Kipnis for the best average in the Majors during that time.

ROSTER ROUND-UP: The Padres currently have 60 players in big league camp...with a full 40-man roster and 20 non-roster invitees, the Padres squad features 30 (seven southpaws), six catchers, 10 infielders and 14 outfielders...entering camp, the Padres had 19 players on the current 40- man roster that were not there at the beginning of 2013 Spring Training.

PADRES AGREE WITH 22: The Padres agreed to terms with 22 players on Monday, meaning all players on the 40-man roster are now signed to 2014 contracts... agreeing to terms yesterday were right-handed pitchers Jesse Hahn, Casey Kelly, Donn Roach, , Burch Smith, Dale Thayer, Nick Vincent and ; left-handed pitchers Robbie Erlin, Juan Oramas, and Alex Torres; catchers and Rene Rivera; infielders , , , Ryan Jackson and Tommy Medica; and outfielders Yeison Asencio, Reymond Fuentes and Rymer Liriano.

THE FUTURE: Eight of the Padres’ top 10 prospects, according to , are in camp this Spring...that list includes C Austin Hedges (1), RHP Matt Wisler (2), RHP Casey Kelly (5), OF Rymer Liriano (6), INF (7), RHP Burch Smith (8), RHP Keyvius Sampson (9) and RHP (10) ...Baseball America also recently released their rankings of the top 100 prospects in baseball, including Hedges (27), Wisler (44), LHP Max Fried (53) and OF (80).

THE WEEK AHEAD: Today the Padres will hit the road to Maryvale to take on the Brewers in an MLB Network televised game...tomorrow the Indians will make the trek from Goodyear to Peoria for their only visit to Peoria Sports Complex on FOX Sports SD...Sunday the Friars will make a trip around Loop-101 and meet up with the Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields in another FOX Sports SD affair...the Swinging Friars will play at Salt River Fields again on Monday, this time against the , then will return home to Peoria Sports Complex next Tuesday to take on the Oakland Athlet- ics. ..next Wednesday the Friars take a trip south of the I-10 and visit the Tribe in Goodyear and will welcome the Brew Crew to Peoria Sports Complex next Thursday the 13th in a FOX Sports SD televised contest.

UNPRECEDENTED WALL-TO-WALL COVERAGE: Each of the Padres’ 31 games from Arizona this spring will feature broadcast coverage, including 14 televised games (10 on FOX Sports San Diego), 15 radio broadcasts and 11 webcasts.

PADRES ON THE RADIO: The Padres will have audio broadcast available for 26 of the scheduled 31 games during Cactus League play...15 of the 26 games will be broadcast on either Mighty 1090 or ESPN 1700 while the other 11 broadcasts can be found on Padres.com via webcast...the Friars broad- cast team will be Ted Leitner, Bob Scanlan and Jesse Agler...the next broadcast on Mighty 1090 will be this Saturday from Peoria against the Tribe.

TODAY’S STARTER: RHP Tyson Ross will take the mound for the Padres today at Mayvale Baseball Park for his second start of the spring...made his 2014 spring debut on March 2 vs. Cincinnati, pitching two hitless and scoreless innings, allowing just a walk...pitched in 35 games, 16 starts, for the Padres in 2013, posting a 3-8 record with a 3.18 ERA (44 ER, 125.0 IP) with 119 strikeouts against just 44 walks...set new career highs in games, starts, innings pitched, strikeouts and ERA in his first season with the Padres...made 13 of his 16 starts from July 23 through the end of the season and posted a 2.93 ERA (26 ER, 80.0 IP) and a .201 opponents batting average despite a 3-4 record in that time... his 2.93 ERA during the second half was seventh-best in the National League and 14th-best in the Majors while he also recorded the lowest contact percentage (69.6% of swings) of all qualified Major League pitchers during that span...over parts of four Major League seasons, the native of Oakland, Calif. has posted a career 9-26 record with a 4.34 ERA (132 ER, 273.2 IP) over 88 games, 37 starts.

MATT WISLER: making his second appearance of the spring today as he made his Cactus League debut on March 2 vs. CIN, throwing two frames with two hits and a ...split the 2013 season between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A , posting an overall 10-6 record to go along with a 2.78 ERA (42 ER, 136.0 IP) over 26 games, all starts...the Padres’ organizational minor league of the year in both 2012 and 2013 enters the 2014 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Padres organization and No. 78 in all of baseball...owns a career 15-10 record to go along with a 2.81 ERA over parts of four minor league seasons.

ROBBIE ERLIN (L): making his second appearance of the spring today, first in relief, as he made his Cactus League debut with a start against the Dodgers on March 2 in Glendale...saw his first Major League action during the 2013 season, posting a 3-3 record with a 4.12 ERA (25 ER, 54.2 IP) with 40 strikeouts in 11 games, including nine starts, for the big league Padres...also appeared in 20 games, all starts, for the Triple-A Tucson Padres last season, posting an 8-3 mark with a 5.07 ERA (56 ER, 99.1 IP) with 84 strikeouts against 34 walks...over five minor league seasons with the Rangers (2009-11) and Padres (2011-) organizations, owns a career 26-13 record with a 3.21 ERA over 91 games, 76 starts.

PATRICK SCHUSTER (L): is making his fourth appearance of the spring today, having thrown a scoreless inning of relief, allowing just one hit, in his last outing on March 4 vs. Arizona....was acquired by the Padres from Houston on December 12, 2013 after he was selected by the Astros as the first-overall selection in the Major League phase of the earlier that day...spent the entire 2013 campaign in Single-A Visalia (ARI) where he posted a 0-1 record despite an 1.83 ERA (14 ER, 44.1 IP) while limiting the opposition to a .191 batting average in 55 relief appearances.

TONY SIPP (L): making his fourth appearance of the spring, coming off a scorless outing in which he allowed just one hit on March 4 vs. Arizona...in his first camp with the Padres after signing as a minor league free agent on February 7, 2014...appeared in 56 games out of the for the in 2013, posting a 3-2 record with a 4.78 ERA (20 ER, 37.2 IP)...the left-hander owns a lifetime 14-9 record with a 3.84 ERA (110 ER, 258.0 IP) in parts of five Major League seasons with the (2009-2012) and the Diamondbacks (2013).

LEONEL CAMPOS: scheduled to make his fourth appearance of the Spring this afternoon, having pitched a scoreless inning of relief with two hits and a strikeout in his last appearance on March 5 at CWS...is in his first Major League camp as he was invited by the Padres as a non-roster invitee...has been a member of the Padres organization for three seasons but only has pitched in parts of two seasons after he had Tommy John Surgery midway through his first professional season in 2011...2013 marked his first full professional season and he spent it split between Single-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio, posting a combined 3-1 record with a 1.61 ERA (12 ER, 67.0 IP) in 54 games, all out of the bullpen.

KEVIN QUACKENBUSH: making his fourth appearance of the spring today, having thrown a scoreless ninth inning on March 5 at CWS...split the 2013 season Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson, posting an overall 10-2 record with a 1.66 ERA (12 ER, 65.0 IP), 84 strikeouts against 19 walks and 17 saves...was voted the MiLB.com of the year in 2012 after he went 3-2 with a 0.94 ERA (6 ER, 57.2 IP) and 27 saves for Single-A Lake Elsinore.

BURCH SMITH: making his second appearance of the spring after he allowed six runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings of work in his Cactus League debut on March 2 vs. Cincinnati...played at three levels last season: Double-A San Antonio, Triple-A Tucson and the Major League Padres and posted a combined 7-6 record with a 4.06 ERA (58 ER, 128.2 IP)...made four stints with the Padres last season (May 11-22, June 8-10, June 28-July 5, September 2-end of season), his first taste of the big leagues, and posted a 1-3 record with a 6.44 ERA (26 ER, 36.1 IP) in 10 games, 7 starts...enters the 2014 season rated by Baseball America as the 8th-best prospect in the Padres organization.
