THE FUTURE: Eight of the Padres’ top 10 prospects, according to , are in camp this Spring...that list includes C Austin Hedges (1), RHP Matt Wisler (2), RHP (5), OF Rymer Liriano (6), INF (7), RHP Burch Smith (8), RHP Keyvius Sampson (9) and RHP (10) ...Baseball America also recently released their rankings of the top 100 prospects in baseball, including Hedges (27), Wisler (44), LHP Max Fried (53) and OF (80).

ROSTER ROUND-UP: The Padres have 60 players in big league camp...with a full 40-man roster and 20 non-roster invitees, the Padres squad features 30 (seven southpaws), six , 10 and 14 outfielders...entering camp, the Padres had19 players on the cur- rent 40-man roster that were not there at the beginning of 2013 Spring Training.

TODAY’S STARTER: LHP Robbie Erlin will take the mound for the Padres in the visiting half of today’s split-squad, his first action of the spring... saw his first Major League action during the 2013 season, posting a 3-3 record with a 4.12 ERA (25 ER, 54.2 IP) with 40 strikeouts in 11 games, including nine starts, for the big league Padres...over his final five starts for the Padres from August 28 through September 26, posted a 2-1 record with a 1.97 ERA (7 ER, 32.0 IP) with 24 strikeouts, compared to a 1-2 record with a 7.15 ERA (18 ER, 22.2 IP) with 16 strikeouts over his first six career games, four starts...also appeared in 20 games, all starts, for the Triple-A Tucson Padres last season, posting an 8-3 mark with a 5.07 ERA (56 ER, 99.1 IP) with 84 strikeouts against 34 walks...was acquired by the Padres with RHP Joe Wieland from the Rangers in exchange for reliever on July 31, 2011...over five minor league seasons with the Rangers (2009-11) and Padres (2011-) organizations, owns a career 26-13 record with a 3.21 ERA over 91 games, 76 starts.

JESSE HAHN: is in his first Major League camp and his first with the Padres after the 24-year-old was acquired by the club on January 22, 2014 along with from the in exchange for INFs and Maxx Tissenbaum and RHPs , and Matt Lollis...spent the majority of the 2013 season with Single-A Charlotte (TB), posting a 2-1 record with a 2.15 ERA (16 ER, 67.0 IP) in 19 games, all starts...in two minor league seasons, owns a career 4-3 record with a 2.38 ERA (32 ER, 121.0 IP).

LEONEL CAMPOS: makes his second spring appearance after allowing 5 runs on 5 hits in an inning against the Mariners last Friday...is in his first Major League camp as he was invited by the Padres as a non-roster invitee...has been a member of the Padres organization for three seasons but only has pitched in parts of two seasons after he had Tommy John Surgery midway through his first professional season in 2011...2013 marked his first full professional season and he spent it split between Single-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio, posting a combined 3-1 record with a 1.61 ERA (12 ER, 67.0 IP) in 54 games, all out of the .

KEVIN QUACKENBUSH: is making his second appearance of the spring, having also appeared in the game on February 28 (0.1 IP, 1 hit)... is in his first Major League camp with the Padres after spending the previous two springs in minor league camp following his selection in the eighth round of the 2011 draft...split the 2013 season between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson, posting an overall 10-2 record with a 1.66 ERA (12 ER, 65.0 IP), 84 strikeouts against 19 walks and 17 saves...was voted the MiLB.com Relief of the year in 2012 after he went 3-2 with a 0.94 ERA (6 ER, 57.2 IP) and 27 saves for Single-A Lake Elsinore.

BLAINE BOYER: is making his second appearance this spring, having also pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the Cactus League opener on February 27...is in his first camp with the Padres after signing as a minor league free agent on January 9, 2014...the 32-year-old has not appeared in the Majors since the 2011 season after spending 2013 between Triple-A Omaha (KC) and the Hanshin Tigers of the Nippon League in Japan and choosing not to pitch in 2012...owns a 9-14 record with a 4.81 ERA in 233 career Major League appearances, all in relief, for the Braves (2005-09), Cardinals (2009), Diamondbacks (2009-10) and Mets (2011).

PATRICK SCHUSTER (L): is making his second appearance this spring having also pitched an inning of relief in the Cactus League opener on February 27, allowing three runs (one earned) with a vs. the M’s...was acquired by the Padres from Houston on December 12, 2013 after he was selcted by the Astros as the first-overall selection in the Major League phase of the earlier that day...spent the entire 2013 campaign in Single-A Visalia (ARI) where he posted a 0-1 record despite an 1.83 ERA (14 ER, 44.1 IP) while limiting the opposition to a .191 batting average in 55 relief appearances.
