ABSTRACT A structural, deformational and sedimentalogical analysis of the Sea Point, Signal Hill and Bloubergstrand exposures of the Tygerberg Formation, Malmesbury Group, has been undertaken, through the application of developed geomathematical, digital and graphical computer-based techniques, encompassing the fields of tectonic strain determination, fold shape classification, cross-sectional profile preparation and sedimentary data representation. Emplacement of the Cape Peninsula granite pluton led to signi£icant tectonic shortening of the sediments, tightening of the pre-existing synclinal fold at Sea Point, and overprinting of the structure by a regional foliation. Strain determinations from deformed metamorphic spotting in the sediments yielded a mean , undirected A1 : A2: AJ value of 1.57:1.24:0.52.

We were forced to leave South Africa five weeks prior to our original plan. Because of this we had to make several of our interviews online which may have affected our end result. 2 Abstract When neighborhoods and cities fall in decline, cities and investors see an opportunity to turn the declining sites into profitable new projects, this happens all over the world in different renewal projects, or under the term gentrification. The outcome of gentrification can be considered to be both positive and negative, and the term is widely discussed in today's media. This study aims to get an understanding of how a small neighborhood in Cape Town called Bo-Kaap, that is famous for its rich culture and strong community, is affected by investors wanting to develop the neighborhood.

    CyberTracker Conservation Proposal to make Table Mountain National Park Safe for Visitors Louis Liebenberg www.cybertracker.org Crime on Noordhoek Beach From 2000 to 2004 the Noordhoek wetlands and beach in the Table Mountain National Park suffered ongoing criminal attacks on visitors. Criminal attacks included armed robbery, assault of visitors and rape. Due to the remoteness of the area, the police and park rangers were unable to apprehend suspects. Only by tracking suspects and using the CyberTracker to plot their movements, was it possible to plan successful operations to catch the criminals. The CyberTracker monitoring programme has proven very successful in reducing and preventing attacks on visitors. After several arrests in 2004, there have been no reported attacks on visitors. A number of attempted attacks have been prevented during the period of 2005 to 2007. In the past a spate of criminal attacks started up again following a quiet period after the arrest of suspects. To prevent this from happening in the future, ongoing training has been provided to ensure the integrity and safety of the area. A number of field rangers in Noordhoek are being trained in the use of the CyberTracker and as part of the ongoing monitoring programme also records observations on animals and endangered plants in the area. Species not known to occur in the area have been discovered, including the Cape Fox and Yellow Mongoose. Movements of otters are also closely monitored.     5 /2012-13 The Paradoxical Utopias of Urbanites – Martyrs of Apartheid Chloé Buire Traduction: Laurent Chauvet, IFAS Abstract Cape Town, the first capital of South Africa, was built on spatial injustice. First a Dutch trading post on the Route to India, then a British colony and the seat of Parliament under apartheid, the Mother City has been deeply marked by racism. In 1994, Nelson Mandela’s election symbolised the abolition of State racism, but the political declarations concerning the break with the past were far from meaning the eradication of prejudices and memories of spatially engraved violence. Based on video interviews presenting the life trajectories of three township residents, this article exposes the escape routes along which the urban identities of Capetonians removed by force under apartheid are shaped. Their personal memories take on the form of a founding myth marked by a highlighted martyred experience, while trying to make sense of their daily lives through symbolic places and socio-religious imagination challenging “the order of things”. As such, the notion of heterotopia can describe the parallel worlds in which urbanites take refuge, in order to invent an alternative order enabling them to overcome the marks of domination on a day to day basis.
