  • The Structure and Growth Characteristics of Oxalis Tetraphylla Cav. (Oxalidaceae R. Br.) Roots
УДК 582.751.1:581.144.2 А.І. ЖИЛА, О.Д. (OXALIDACEAE R. BR.) [20]. ATOLL RESEARCH BULLETIN NO. 503 THE VASCULAR PLANTS OF MAJURO ATOLL, REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS BY NANCY VANDER VELDE ISSUED BY NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. AUGUST 2003 Uliga Figure 1. Majuro Atoll THE VASCULAR PLANTS OF MAJURO ATOLL, REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS ABSTRACT Majuro Atoll has been a center of activity for the Marshall Islands since 1944 and is now the major population center and port of entry for the country. Previous to the accompanying study, no thorough documentation has been made of the vascular plants of Majuro Atoll. There were only reports that were either part of much larger discussions on the entire Micronesian region or the Marshall Islands as a whole, and were of a very limited scope. Previous reports by Fosberg, Sachet & Oliver (1979, 1982, 1987) presented only 115 vascular plants on Majuro Atoll. In this study, 563 vascular plants have been recorded on Majuro. INTRODUCTION The accompanying report presents a complete flora of Majuro Atoll, which has never been done before. It includes a listing of all species, notation as to origin (i.e. indigenous, aboriginal introduction, recent introduction), as well as the original range of each. The major synonyms are also listed. For almost all, English common names are presented. Marshallese names are given, where these were found, and spelled according to the current spelling system, aside from limitations in diacritic markings. A brief notation of location is given for many of the species. The entire list of 563 plants is provided to give the people a means of gaining a better understanding of the nature of the plants of Majuro Atoll.

Abieticola koreana, is described. This xylariaceous fungus was isolated from the inner bark of a Manchurian fir (Abies holophylla) in Korea. Phylogenetic analyses based on the sequences of four gene regions—ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, 28S, β-tubulin, and rpb2—were used to confirm this new genus and species. Key words—Ascomycota, anamorph, multigene, Xylarioideae, Xylariaceae Introduction The Xylariaceae is a large family of ascomycetes comprising approximately 85 genera and at least 1,340 species that are distributed worldwide and exhibit exceptional diversity in the tropics (Whalley 1996, Velmurugan et al. 2013, Stadler et al. 2014). It has been estimated that the Xylariaceae contains 10,000 undescribed species (Stadler 2011, Richardson et al. 2014). Recent phylogenetic studies (Tang et al. 2009, Daranagama et al. 2015) using combined ITS, LSU, rpb2, and β-tubulin sequences, suggested that Xylariaceae has two major lineages, Xylarioideae and Hypoxyloideae. To date, 11 genera of Xylariaceae have been shown to occur as endophytes of various plants (Pažoutová et al.

Environment Health Techniques 44 Priyanka Verma et al. Research Paper Molecular diversity and multifarious plant growth promoting attributes of Bacilli associated with wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) rhizosphere from six diverse agro-ecological zones of India Priyanka Verma1,2, Ajar Nath Yadav1, Kazy Sufia Khannam2, Sanjay Kumar3, Anil Kumar Saxena1 and Archna Suman1 1 Division of Microbiology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India 2 Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India 3 Division of Genetics, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India The diversity of culturable Bacilli was investigated in six wheat cultivating agro-ecological zones of India viz: northern hills, north western plains, north eastern plains, central, peninsular, and southern hills. These agro-ecological regions are based on the climatic conditions such as pH, salinity, drought, and temperature. A total of 395 Bacilli were isolated by heat enrichment and different growth media. Amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis using three restriction enzymes AluI, MspI, and HaeIII led to the clustering of these isolates into 19–27 clusters in the different zones at >70% similarity index, adding up to 137 groups. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing led to the identification of 55 distinct Bacilli that could be grouped in five families, Bacillaceae (68%), Paenibacillaceae (15%), Planococcaceae (8%), Staphylococcaceae (7%), and Bacillales incertae sedis (2%), which included eight genera namely Bacillus, Exiguobacterium, Lysinibacillus, Paenibacillus, Planococcus, Planomicrobium, Sporosarcina, andStaphylococcus. All 395 isolated Bacilli were screened for their plant growth promoting attributes, which included direct-plant growth promoting (solubilization of phosphorus, potassium, and zinc; production of phytohormones; 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase activity and nitrogen fixation), and indirect-plant growth promotion (antagonistic, production of lytic enzymes, siderophore, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia).

Heifer IMI in early lactation impacts negatively on welfare, milk production and longevity in the herd. Prevention of subclinical and clinical mastitis caused by IMI with major pathogens, such as Streptococcus uberis and Staphylococcus aureus, could be improved if more information about the origin of heifer IMI were available. The challenges of establishing when in the pre- or peri-partum period the infection occurs make targeting of preventive management difficult.

Nat. Croat., Vol. 24, No. 2, 361–397*, 2015, Zagreb due to the forthcoming obligation to thoroughly catalogue and officially register all living and non-living collections in the european union, an inventory revision of the plant collections in Zagreb Botanical Garden of the faculty of science (university of Zagreb, Croatia) has been initiated. the plant lists of the temperate (warm) greenhouse collections since the construction of the first, exhibition Glasshouse (1891), until today (2015) have been studied. synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material have been sorted. lists of species grown (or that presumably lived) in the warm greenhouse conditions during the last 120 years have been constructed to show that throughout that period at least 1000 plant taxa from 380 genera and 90 families inhabited the temperate collections of the Garden. today, that collection holds 320 exotic taxa from 146 genera and 56 families.
