Soprano Vittoria Yeo
Soprano Vittoria Yeo Born in Seoul, South Korea, her musical studies began in her hometown where she graduated with a degree in vocal performance from Seokyeong University. She then moved to Italy to continue her training. After receiving her diploma in vocal performance from the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory of Music in Parma, she furthered her training at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and then the Istituto Musicale Pareggiato “Vecchi-Tonelli” in Modena, where she studied with celebrated soprano Raina Kabaivanska and graduated with the highest marks. Vittoria Yeo began her international career with her debut at the Salzburg Festival during the summer of 2015 where she sang Elvira in Ernani under the musical direction of Riccardo Muti. She was then engaged to sing the title role in their new production of Aida. She has sung numerous roles, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth at the Teatro Dante Alighieri in Ravenna, at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, at the Stockholm Konzerthaus and at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Cio cio-San in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte at the Aphrodite Festival, Liù in Turandot at the Arena di Verona and at the Daegu Opera Festival in Korea, Leonora in Il trovatore at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. Giovanna in Giovanna d’Arco at the Teatro Farnese during Parma’s Verdi Festival, Odabella in Attila at Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Mimì in La bohème at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, and Lida in La battaglia di Legnano at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. -

It takes a huge team of people to make a program like Composers and the Voice work, but I would like to thank two who have stepped into new and significantly larger roles this year. Mila Henry, C&V Head of Music, has overseen the musical organization of the entire season, while also preparing several pieces for each of our workshop sessions. Matt Gray, as C&V Head of Drama, has brought his insight into character and operatic narrative into every element of the program. -

(Perhaps while I am writing this, ‘Opera Canada’ is doing the same?) For several years she was based in Vienna, singing lead roles at the State Opera. Elsewhere in Europe she has had great success as Elsa, Arabella, Tatiana, Desdemona and Alice Ford in Munich, Paris, Glyndebourne and Milan. Four years ago in Hamburg she had already caught my at- tention as a great Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes. As is the custom in Europe we joined the fans wait- ing for her at the stage door and asked her whether she is thinking of doing Tosca. Yes, next year in San Francisco. This year she will sing her first Elisabetta (Don Carlo) in Salzburg, Ariadne in Barcelona and her Met debut as Lisa (Pique Dame) is planned for 2004. In the arias and scenes that follow, we witness characters in just this kind of moment; searching for meaningful contact yet being somehow barred from achieving it. World Premiere of Angels’ Atlas by Crystal Pite Presented with Chroma & Marguerite and Armand Principal Dancer Greta Hodgkinson’s Farewell Performances Casting Announced February 26, 2020… Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the casting for Angels’ Atlas by Crystal Pite which makes its world premiere on a programme with Chroma by Wayne McGregor and Marguerite and Armand by Frederick Ashton. The programme is onstage February 29 – March 7, 2020 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. #AngelsAtlasNBC #ChromaNBC #MargueriteandArmandNBC The opening night cast of Angels’ Atlas features Principal Dancers Heather Ogden and Harrison James, First Soloist Jordana Daumec, Hannah Fischer and Donald Thom, Second Soloists Spencer Hack and Siphesihle November and Corps de Ballet member Hannah Galway. Principal Dancer Greta Hodgkinson retires from the stage after a career that has spanned over a period of 30 years. She will dance the role of Marguerite opposite Principal Dancer Guillaume Côté in Marguerite and Armand on opening night. The company will honour Ms. Hodgkinson at her final performance on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 pm. Principal Dancers Sonia Rodriguez, Francesco Gabriele Frola and Harrison James will dance the title roles in subsequent performances.
