Rotary Thought The difference between a succesful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lacl of will. Vince Lombardi 1913 - 1970 Rotary Peace Park - A Celebration Waterton - Glacier is a monument to the vision and hard work of Rotary leaders from both sides of the border. On July 4, 1931, representatives from the Rotary clubs of Kalispell, Great Falls, and Missoula in Montana, and Lethbridge and Cardston in Alberta met at Waterton Park, Alberta. They devised a plan to designate the two national parks as one "International Peace Park", the first of its kind in the world. The weekend of September 25 - 27, 2009 will celebrate the 77th anniversary of the Peace Park Assembly. It is anticipated that Rotarians from Alberta, British Columbia and Montana will come togeather to celebrate this peace initiative. Rotarians from as far away as Florida and California have attended past celebrations and the plans are in place to ensure everybody wo attends will leave with fond memories, tell their Clubs about the great event it is and encourage them to attend in the future. Rotary International Director Mike Colasurdo Sr. will be in attendance, as well as a Rotary Peace Scholar. The University of Lethbridge Rotaract Club members and our District 5360 exchange students will also attend, which will truly represent global representation. The highlight of the weekend is the annual "Hands Across the Border" ceremony , which takes place at the International Border where US Rotarians stand on one side and Canadian Rotarians stand on the other side, and we recite the pledge to not declare war on each other, this is a very emotional ceremony. This year we are taking a large boat to the border crossing, that ceremony takes place on Sunday at noon. By November F2010, he moved to a similar role with the minister of health and wellness. March 12, 2008 Premier Stelmach sets out priorities; names new Cabinet, reorganizes portfolios Changes to government structure reflect government priorities Edmonton... Premier Ed Stelmach has laid out the priorities for his new administration, reorganizing portfolios and adding four new ministries. The Premier also named his new Cabinet which features new faces and new assignments for previous members, and introduces the role of parliamentary assistants who will help support ministers on key projects. "This Cabinet and new government structure will focus on building a stronger Alberta and improving the lives of Albertans,” said Premier Stelmach. “The Cabinet team balances experience and new perspectives and is well skilled for the work ahead.” The new Cabinet will be focused on five priorities: ensuring Alberta’s energy resources are developed in an environmentally sustainable way; increasing access to quality health care and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health care service delivery; enhancing value-added activity, increasing innovation, and improving the long-run sustainability of Alberta’s economy; reducing crime so Albertans feel safe in their communities; and providing the roads, schools, hospitals and other public infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing economy and population. Changes to the government structure will help better meet these priorities. Government’s increased focus on culture is reflected in the new Ministry of Culture and Community Spirit which also has responsibility for the voluntary sector and the Human Rights Commission. The new Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will help fulfill government’s plan to ensure affordable housing is available to all Albertans and to address emerging urban issues.

I would like to also welcome: - Fred Horne MLA for Edmonton-Rutherford - Sohail Quadri MLA for Edmonton-Mill Woods - Councillor Michael Walters - Present Board Chair of South West Family Resource Centre, Mark Neufeld, and - Former Board Chair of South West Family Resource Centre, Deborah Morrison I am honoured to be here today on behalf of the Minister of Human Services, Heather Klimchuk, and as your MLA. Congratulations to the staff and executive of the Mill Woods Family Resource Centre on its 10th anniversary, on the Centre’s 10 years of Parent Link Centre programming, and on the official opening of its new location. Through your care and support, parents are connected with tools and resources to help raise their children. Community partners and all levels of government also collaborate to help make this happen. The result is positive outcomes, where thousands of children lead happy, healthy childhoods and successful futures. That’s why I cannot stress the importance of collaboration enough. Raising children is rewarding, but it can also be challenging. Despite their best intentions, some parents lack the tools, skills and knowledge to help their children develop into happy, healthy and fully functioning adults. Thanks to this Centre and the collaboration between government and community partners, these parents will get the support they need. They will receive help with early childhood development and parenting programs, family support, referrals to other programs and agencies, and more.

  • 911 Dispatch Issues & Rural EMS Strategies May 14, 2012 Report
We’re Working On It! 911 Dispatch Issues & Rural EMS Strategies May 14, 2012 Report Dear Residents: This is a report about ongoing cooperative effort which is affecting you! As a result of centralizing ambulance dispatch and challenges which have emerged in service to our residents, a number of people are putting in a lot of effort to work towards solutions, to manage costs, better support our 911 dispatch centres and effect better coordinated responses of ambulance and fire first response. On behalf of the MD of Foothills and our Foothills Regional Emergency Services Commission, I am working with many people who are interested in finding and advocating solutions to these complex matters. Our Foothills Regional Emergency Services Commission (FRESC), who owns and operates our Foothills 911 Call centre, is operating out of the Black Diamond Hospital. We serve 26 Municipalities and 32 Fire Departments in Southern Alberta, including the communities of Okotoks, High River, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, MD of Foothills, and 21 more... Your 911 Calls are answered at this Public Safety Answering Point and are further directed to Calgary PSC for AHS Ambulance – Emergency Medical Services (EMS), to the RCMP dispatch in Red Deer for police service, or if Fire Department response is required, dispatched directly from our location. We receive land line and cell phone calls within our area, and calls that are transferred to us from cell phone or VOIP calls received by other operators but require a response in our area. Although we have experienced some changes from the service we were used to before transition, we continue to work towards affecting the change we need to provide the best service possible to our residents.
