LAKE TAUPO YACHT CLUB 2018 WOODEN & SPORTS BOAT REGATTA 17 & 18 November, 2018 The Organising Authority is Lake Taupo Yacht Club PO Box 525, Taupo 3351 www.ltyc.org.nz NOTICE OF RACE Lake Taupo Yacht Club invites all Dinghy and Sports Boat sailors to participate in the annual Wooden and Sports Boat Regatta. Entries may be made on line only through the LTYC Clubhub Registration facility available here or by copying the link at the end of this NOR to your browser. Early bird entry fees are applicable until 1700Hrs, Tuesday 13 November 2018, following which the full Registration fee will apply. Entries received after this time may not be eligible for any Spot Prizes which may be drawn at the end of the regatta (at the Race Committee’s discretion). 1. Rules 1. The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020. 2. For protest where a Rule of Part 2, or Rule 31 is alleged to have been broken an arbitration hearing will be offered prior to any formal hearing. 3. For Sports Boats - The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Sport Boats Part VI, Category B shall apply. 2. Eligibility and Entry 1. The regatta is open to all wooden dinghies and dinghies of other materials whose design is derived from wooden boats; 2. The regatta is open to all Sports Boats; 3. The Regatta is open to other invited classes; 4. Eligible boats may enter by electronic means through the regattas tab on the LTYC website. (www.ltyc.org.nz), or by following this link and paying the required fee to Lake Taupo Yacht Club by 13 November 2018. 5. Late entries may be accepted up to the time of briefing at the Race Committees discretion, however entry will still be by completion of the online entry process. 6. To be eligible to compete in this event each skipper and crew member shall be a financial member of a member club of Yachting New Zealand. 3. Fees 1. For Zephyr Class, an early bird entry fee of $75 is payable until 1700 Hrs Tuesday 13 November, thereafter the full entry fee of $95 applies. This includes the $5 Zephyr Class Association fee. 2. For Sports Boats, an early bird entry fee of $85 is payable until 1700 Hrs Tuesday 13 November, thereafter the full entry fee of $100 applies. 3. For all other classes, an early bird entry fee of $70 is payable until 1700 Hrs Tuesday 13 November, thereafter the full entry fee of $90 applies. 4. Schedule 1. Registration i. Friday 16 November 1730 – 1900 ii. Saturday 17 November 0830 – 1000 2. Measurement and Inspection: i. For eligibility for any class competition, measurement and inspection may be required. This will be arranged by the Class Association at a time and date specified by that class association. 3. Dates of Racing: i. 17 and 18 of November 2018 4. Number of Races: i. The Regatta shall consist of a maximum of 8 races; ii. Saturday 17 November – A maximum of 5 Races; iii. Sunday 18 November – A maximum of Four Races; iv. Race target time – 40 minutes 5. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race on 17 November is 1055 hours; 6. On Sunday 18 November, no warning signal will be made after 1500 hours 5. Measurements 1. Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate if required by her class association. 6. Sailing Instructions 1. The Sailing Instructions will be available after 1730 on Friday 9 November on the Lake Taupo Yacht Club website - www.ltyc.org.nz. The sailing instructions may be posted on the website earlier than the date above. 7. Venue: 1. Races will be held in the waters directly in front of Taupo township – Taupuaeharuru Bay, Lake Taupo. 8. The Courses: 1. The courses to be sailed will be windward-leeward or triangular courses. 2. Wooden Boats and Sports boats will sail on different race courses; 3. Multihulls, if any, will sail on the Sports Boat race course. 9. Penalty System 1. Rule 44.1 is changed so that the two turn penalty is replaced by the one turn penalty 10. Scoring 1. The Low Points Scoring System RRS Appendix A will be used. 2. Three (3) races are required to be completed to constitute a series. i. When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. ii. When from five (5) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 11. Launching: 1. Unless otherwise directed by the Organising Authority, all competing Centreboard and multihull boats and equipment shall be launched and retrieved from the beach in front of Lake Taupo Yacht Club. 2. Sports boats may be launched and kept overnight in the areas adjacent to the Nukuhau Boat Pens ramp or the ramp adjacent to the Harbour Masters office. 3. Permits are required for launching Sports Boats and are to be purchased on line at the time of registration ($5 per day) 4. In the Waikato River, all boats must either be under their own mechanical power or under tow. No sailing in the Waikato River (Lake Taupo Navigation Safety Bylaw 2010). 5. Any boats or equipment that have been in contact with fresh waterways must be cleaned prior to launching in Lake Taupo to prevent the spread of Didymo or other invasive weeds. 12. Radio Communication 1. Sports Boats must carry a VHF radio and are required to notify the Committee Boat (P6) by radio when exiting the river mouth, advising the number of persons on board. This is a new requirement for safety purposes. 2. Sports Boats will not be required to sign off the water; 3. Otherwise, except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 13. Prizegiving 1. Prizegiving will be held, in the Clubhouse, at the conclusion of the Regatta. A gold coin donation sausage sizzle will be available, proceeds to Junior sailing. 14. Prizes 1. Prizes may be given at the discretion of the Race Committee. Class Trophies may be awarded by the relevant Class Associations at their discretion. 15. Disclaimer of Liability 1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 16. Insurance 1. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance. 17. Saturday Evening 1. On Saturday evening we have partnered with the 2 Mile Bay Sailing Centre to provide refreshments and food. The Centre offers a range of wood fired pizzas or, if numbers are sufficient, will prepare a buffet barbeque for regatta sailors and supporters, cost $25. There will also be live entertainment. The Centre is situated on the Lake Terrace approx. 3km south of the town centre. 18. Further Information 1.
