I'm sure that if the members of this group were to have the courage of their convictions and make themselves known, their minds would be put at rest with a visit to the golf dub, not under cover of darkness wielding the tools of vandalism, but during the day carrying nothing more than an open mind. It is up to all of us to sell the positive message of the game of golf and rid the game of this monkey on our back. People working on the country's golf courses do some great work to enhance the environment, not drain it of valuable resources and it should be known about. History of Royal Cromer Golf Club established 1888 Information obtained from minute books, letters, members records, journals and periodicals. Royal Cromer Golf Club History Established 1888 Royal Cromer Golf Club owes its existence to the enthusiasm and love of the game of a Mr. Henry Broadhurst M.P., a Scot who lived at 19, Buckingham Street, The Strand, London. In the 1880's, whilst holidaying in Cromer, he recognised the potential of land to the seaward of the Lighthouse as a possible site for a Links Course. The popularity of North Norfolk at this time had been noted in the London City Press in a report dated 5th September 1886: "The public are greatly indebted to railway enterprise for the opening up of the East Coast. More bracing air and delightful sands are not to be found in any part of England. The only drawback is that the country is rather flat. This remark, however, does not apply to Cromer, which bids fair to become the most popular watering place, it being entirely free from objectionable features". The site of the proposed golf course was owned by the then Lord Suffield KCB, who kindly consented to the request of Broadhurst and some twenty other enthusiasts to rent the land. The Club was instituted in the Autumn of 1887 with Lord Suffield as President. Doubtless it was his friendship and influence with the Prince of Wales which precipitated the Prince's gracious patronage of the infant club on 25th December 1887. Thus Cromer had a Royal Golf Club even before its official opening the following January.

ADDITIONAL ALL-TIME GREAT AND PIONEER GOLFERS HISTORY MAKER GOLF The 24 golfers included in this set will hopefully serve as a useful supplement to the All-Time Great and Pioneer sets previously released by PLAAY Games. Additionally, with this release, every male golfer who has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (as of the Class of 2021) now has a card for History Maker Golf; inductees in this set are denoted with a red ‘H’ next to their name. Whilst it is not always possible to access statistics for ‘historic’ golfers, especially the Pioneers, all the golfers in this set have been rated based on extensive research; the cards are rated so as to be consistent with the existing official sets, and each golfer’s card hopefully reflects his individual playing style as much as possible. Finally, please note that three of the golfers (Tony Jacklin, Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson) were originally released by PLAAY Games as a free giveaway in the June 2017 newsletter.
