FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 22, 2019 Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut sends 57 Skaters to 2020 Skate Canada Challenge Photo: 2019-2020 Skate Canada-NWT/Nunavut Select Team members Edmonton (AB): Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut is sending 57 skaters to the 2020 Skate Canada Challenge taking place in Edmonton, Alberta November 27 – December 1, 2019. Over 600 skaters from across Canada will be coming to Edmonton next week as the Section hosts the 2020 Skate Canada Challenge. This event is the Canadian Championships for skaters in the Pre-Novice events and the qualifier for the 2020 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships for skaters in Novice, Junior and Senior events. The 2020 Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships will be held in Mississauga, Ontario January 13-19, 2020. The 2020 Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Challenge Team includes Canadian Next Gen Team Members, Eric Liu, who finished 8th overall in Junior Men at the Junior Grand Prix Riga Cup in September and National Novice Women Champion, Kaiya Ruiter who was a Gold Medalist at the Canada Winter Games and recently placed 6th overall in Junior Ladies at the Egna/Neumarkt Junior Grand Prix last month. The events featured the top six skaters/couples in each category from the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. Skoptcova/Aleshin (RUS) dance off with gold in Junior Ice Dance Russia’s Anastasia Skoptcova/Kirill Aleshin danced off with the gold medal. Christina Carreira/Anthony Ponomarenko (USA) claimed the silver medal and Sofia Polishchuk/Alexander Vakhnov, also from Russia, earned the bronze in what was their debut in the Junior Final. Skoptcova/Aleshin put out a strong Tango program, collecting a level four for their lifts, twizzles and the sin while the serpentine step sequence was rated a level three. The Muscovites achieved a season’s best with 87.74 points for a total of 153.61 points. “For now, we are satisfied with our performance and now we would like to start our preparation for our next competition,” Aleshin commented. -

PRESS RELEASE November 28, 2013 For information: Allan Gordon Communications Assistant 613.747.1007 ext. 2564 [email protected] Skaters vie for entries to Canadian championships at 2014 Skate Canada Challenge OTTAWA, ON: Approximately 500 skaters will be heading to Regina, Sask., for the 2014 Skate Canada Challenge, taking place from December 4-8, 2013. This year’s event marks the third straight year the event has been hosted at The Co-Operators Centre at Evraz Place. This is the sole qualifying event for novice, junior, and senior skaters to earn berths for the 100th anniversary 2014 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships taking place in Ottawa, Ont., from January 9-15, 2014. In order to qualify for the 2014 Skate Canada Challenge all skaters have advanced through their home sections. The 2014 Skate Canada Challenge will also see the crowning of the 2014 Canadian Pre- Novice Champions in men’s, women’s, pair, and ice dance. National team members and Canadian bronze medallists Paige Lawrence, 23, Kennedy, Sask., and Rudi Swiegers, 26, Kipling, Sask., will represent home section Saskatchewan in the senior pair discipline. Canadian bronze medallist Andrei Rogozine, 20, Richmond Hill, Ont., will be competing in senior men’s. The senior ladies division will feature all three 2013 Canadian medallists, Kaetlyn Osmond, 17, Marystown, Nfld. & Sherwood Park, Alta., Gabrielle Daleman, 15, Newmarket, Ont., and Alaine Chartrand, 17, Prescott, Ont. Skate Canada International is the second of six events in the series. Skaters compete for points to qualify for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and a prize money of US $ 180,000 per individual event of the Grand Prix. 2019 CBS Skating Club Easter Seminar With Special Guests KEEGAN MESSING, LANCE VIPOND & JESSICA GOSSE April 22 to 24, 2019 Seminar Facilitators Lance Vipond is an Olympic & World level choreographer whose clients include 3-time Olympic Medalist, 2018 World Champion and 3-time Canadian Champion, Kaetlyn Osmond, Olympic & World team member and 2018 Canadian Men’s Silver Medalist, Keegan Messing and Olympic and World team member Kevin Reynolds. Lance has had skaters medal in every level at the National Championships in all events over the past 15 seasons and currently has skaters competing internationally on the Junior Grand Prix and Grand Prix circuit. He has a diploma in Theatre Arts from McEwan and studied acting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in England. His background in many areas of the arts, including theatre, dance and music, greatly informs his approach to skating choreography which, in turn, helps his skaters become well rounded entertainers and on ice story tellers. He is a highly energetic and enthusiastic facilitator, who strives to draw the “inner artist” out of every skater he works with as well as helping them find their “authentic selves” when it comes to movement and the delivery of choreography. Lance resides in Paris Ontario and travels throughout the country, from Newfoundland to Vancouver, choreographing and conducting clinics for skaters of all levels and disciplines. Jessica Goose started her competitive coaching career in Marystown, NL where she developed young athletes from her CanSkate program to compete at the Skate Canada Junior National Championships. Among those young athletes was World Champion Kaetlyn Osmond and CBS Skating director Matthew Power.
