With start of the 2019-20 women's basketball campaign, second-year head coach Mike Lane returns three starters, including top returning scorer Danielle Tunstall and adds seven newcomers to the roster.

Lane begins his second season at the helm of the Highlanders, after spending six seasons at Bucknell University as the top assistant coach, where he helped guide the Bison to a program-best 27-6 mark, Patriot League title and conference cham- pionship while earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.

The three key returners back for the 2019-20 season are seniors Tunstall and Milena Bajic as well as junior Ellyn Stoll.

Last season, Tunstall averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 board per game, while Stoll totaled 238 points (7.9 points per game), adding 64 assists and 36 three-point field goals.

Bajic, who made her first appearance as a Highlander last season, averaged 6.5 points per game and had six double-figure performances.

"We have to depend on our veteran players," Lane added. "Our older kids have been in the system for a year now, they are established and you can see that in practice. With Danielle (Tunstall), Ellyn (Stoll) and Milena (Bajic), we really expect them to lead this team on and off the court. We have a lot of youth and inexperience so we are relying on those veterans in addition to Maddie Martin, Samantha Schultz, Tracey Brereton, who didn't get as much opportunity last year but know the system and now they have to do it on the court."

Redshirt freshman Maddie Martin, who is coming off two ACL injuries, will step on the hardwood for the first time in her collegiate career. The 5- foot-7 guard is a two-time District 2 Small School Player of the Year by NPF Sports and scored 1,516 points and made 225 three-pointers during her career at Dunmore.

"We have a big freshman class with a lot to learn," Lane added. "The biggest adjustment will be the mental side -- the physical side they will have to respond too."

Point guard Kenna Squier with exceptional court vision capped her high school career at Pope John XXIII High School (played two seasons at Sus- sex Tech before transferring), leading Pope John to an undefeated season as NJAC American Division Conference Champions. She was selected NJAC and NJ Herald Player of the Year, NJAC American Division and All-Area first-team, combining over 2,000 career points.

Kennedy Cash, the 5-foot-9 combo guard from Charlotte, NC, is a fill-the-stat-sheet guard. Cash guided Ardrey Kell High School (23-6 overall) to the SoMeck 7 Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions.

A dynamic guard who can run a team from the point guard spot or stretch the floor from the wing, Kendle Dalrymple capped her career at Ocean Lakes High School, reaching the 1,000-point and 500 career assist milestones. Dalrymple holds the single-game and career record for three- pointers made at Ocean Lakes.

Maria Fux, a versatile post, who has three-point range and sees the floor well, represented Argentina this summer in the U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Thailand. The 6-foot forward is a member of the Argentinian national team, participated in six national FIBA tournaments and cap- tured the title at the South American Tournament Champions in 2017.

A talented wing in Marissa McDonald, the 6-foot guard from West Chester East High School, was selected as a McDonald's All-American nominee, leading West Chester East to its first postseason in five seasons and first district win in over 10 years. McDonald reached the 1,000-point mile- stone, finishing fourth in the West Chester East's all-time list with 1,139 career points.

A versatile forward who will score and rebound in the paint, Dani Evans concluded her sensational career at Jackson Memorial High School, averaging 12.4 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game as a senior. She wrapped up her high school career with 933 points, 733 rebounds.

Older sister Kimi Evans, who played two seasons at Seton Hall, will practice with the Highlanders in 2019-20, but will not compete until the 2020- 21 season under NCAA Division I transfer rules.

The 2019 season tips off at home on November 5, hosting Colgate inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. Last season, the Highlanders defeat- ed the Raiders, 71-53.

NJIT CONCLUDES SEASON ON MONDAY AT NORTH ALABAMA NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT women's basketball team will conclude the 2020 campaign on Monday, March 2 at North Alabama at Flowers Hall. The game will tip-off at 6pm (CT) on ESPN+.

Last Time Out Kennesaw State had six players reach double- figures, defeating visiting NJIT, 85-62 in ASUN Con- ference women's basketball action Saturday after- noon at the KSU Convocation Center.

NJIT's Ellyn Stoll registered a career-best 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range.

Freshman guard Kenna Squier combined for 15 points, five rebounds and five assists while senior forward Danielle Tunstall chipped in 10 points and led all players with eight rebounds on the boards, nearly missing a double-double.

Milena Bajic added six points off the bench for the Highlanders.

All-Time Series vs. North Alabama North Alabama leads the all-time series, 3-0.

Scouting the Highlanders NJIT is led by two double-figure scorers -- Danielle Tunstall (12.9ppg) and Kenna Squier (10.9ppg).

Tunstall, the Highlander forward, has registered 19 double-doubles for her career (nine for the season) while posting 18 double-figure contests, including five 20-point performances. Her 8.8rpg ranks Tunstall third in the ASUN.

Squier, the freshman guard has combined for 16 double-digit games, including the last six-out-of-nine con- tests. She dished out a career-best eight assists at Lipscomb.

Scouting the Lions North Alabama (19-8, 10-5 ASUN) upset No. 23 FGCU led by Emma Wallen's game-high 22 points. The win represented the first victory over a ranked opponent for the Lions and a rare loss for the Eagles who entered the day undefeated in league play, including a 42-game conference winning streak that dates back to the 2017-18 sea- son. The Lions will conclude the regular season on Monday hosting the Highlanders.

UNA's top scorer Ivy Wallen ranks third in the ASUN in scoring at 15.7ppg while also leading the Lions with 196 assists.

Sister Emma Wallen is averaging 12.4ppg and tops the team with 62 three-point field goals while Brittany Panetti is averaging 10.4ppg. Panetti's field goal percentage (58.2) ranks second in the ASUN.

Kenyesha Coulson three-point percentage (43.8) ranks third in the ASUN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES FOUR NEWCOMERS FOR 20220

As a sophomore, Paramus Catholic was a 2018 State Finalist with Myers earning, All-Conference first-team and All- County third-team.

Myers, a member of the National and Junior Honors Society, intends to major in biomedical engineering at NJIT in Fall 2020.

She was the recipient of the Paramus Catholic Aquinas Scholarship and Outstanding Student Awards in Engineering, Chemistry, English, History, Religion, Algebra and Geometry.

Coach Lane on Myers: "Aria is a hard charging guard. Her attacking style will blend well with our system and roster." NJIT Celebrated Ribbon-Cutting of New Wellness and Events Center The Wellness and Events Center is the centerpiece of the university’s $400 million campus transformation for learning and re- search

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) celebrated the official ribbon-cutting of the new Wellness and Events Center (WEC) on Friday, November 10, 2017.

"The WEC is an iconic, state-of-the-art and multipurpose building that provides large-scale space for professional conferencing, training and career fairs, as well as social settings for NJIT students, faculty and staff," said Joel S. Bloom, president of NJIT. "It will be home to our Division I scholar-athletes, replacing a gymnasium that was built more than 50 years ago, and will serve as a fitness and recreational center for our campus community, NJIT alumni and friends. The WEC will be a learning, recreation and athletic destination facility in the City of Newark and for the region."

The design of the three-story, 220,000-square-foot building features a number of flexible spaces that can be quickly configured to support the numerous and varied missions of the university community. Designed and engineered by AECOM and built by Torcon, the exterior design re- inforces the university's position as a leader in engineering and technol- ogy education, featuring a 52-foot-high glass wall on the north facade that offers an excellent view of the adjacent athletic field as well as NJIT's academic campus.

The 3,500-seat arena exemplifies the creation of transformable venues to meet the varied programmatic needs of each event. With all of the lower bowl seats in place, it is a dynamic Division I basketball and volleyball venue. Retracting half of those seats and adding a portable stage converts it to a convocation hall. With all of the seats retracted, the large, open floor can be used for recreation/ intramural sports, large student gatherings, job fairs, alumni functions and trade shows. The main concourse also functions as a practice running track.

"I am very excited for the opening of our new Wellness and Events Center," said Lenny Kaplan, assistant vice president of the Athletics Department at NJIT. "This facility has been in the works for quite some time as our old facility was small and outdated. The arena, surrounded by first-class amenities for all our student-athletes including spacious locker rooms, strength, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy areas, as well as plenty of meeting and gathering space will make this one of the best mid-major facilities in the region. Oth- er great spaces including an enlarged fitness center, in- door turf area, extra basketball courts and an eight-lane pool will allow for continued growth in our intramural and recreation program which includes students, staff and alumni. On behalf of all the NJIT students, and especially our student-athletes, it's an exciting time to be a HIGH- LANDER!"

New Wellness and Events Center Perhaps the most unique design feature of the NJIT Wellness and Events Center is the full-height glass wall along the north façade, which provides great views of the campus and the adjacent athletic field that will be constructed in the upcoming months. The main circulation corridor in the building runs along that glass wall as it connects the central campus quadrangle to a transit station for the local light rail system. Several casual seating areas have been located along this corridor so this light-filled atrium space can also serve as an interactive social hub for students, faculty and staff. The grandstand that runs along the base of the north facade is connected to the main corridor and doubles as a casual outdoor seating area that can be utilized for study on fair weather days.

The Wellness and Events Center is located at the corner of Lock and Warren Streets, which is a gateway point to the university campus. The design of the two façades fronting that intersection reinforces NJIT's position as a leader in engineering and technolo- gy education.

"Because the new NJIT Wellness and Event Center is located directly between a transit stop on the light rail system and the academic campus, the building will become a portal to the University for scores of stu- dents on a daily basis," said Steve Terrill, principal, AECOM's Americas Sports Sector. "One of the design goals for the building was to expose these students on a daily basis to the numerous recreation facilities in the hope that it would encourage them to a healthier lifestyle."

Another flexible program space on the first floor is the large multipurpose room. With the dividing curtain open, it can host fencing meets or other large events. With the curtain closed, it can be set up for practice on one side while the other side becomes a group exercise classroom for activities such as yoga, aerobics or Pilates. Other program elements on the first floor include an eight-lane, 25-yard pool with spectator seating, general student locker rooms, a training room with three hydrotherapy pools, a strength and conditioning room and fan support spaces for the grandstand.

There are two full-length practice courts on the second floor. These two rooms also have a central dividing curtain that, when open, creates another floor space that can be utilized for science fairs or other student functions. Adjacent to the main concourse is a team store that can be open to sell Highlanders gear throughout the school year. The other major space on the second level is the recreation center, featuring cardio fitness equipment, weight stations and an incredible view across campus.

A grand staircase connects the second and third floors. At the top of the staircase is the reception desk for the administrative suite, with offices and workstations for coaches and athletics administrative staff. Adjacent to these offices are several multipurpose con- ference rooms, a student academic support suite, a press box for the athletic field and an ESPN production room. Additionally, there is an 11,580-square-foot turf room, two racquetball courts and a hospitality suite.

YaleHEAD COACH MIKE0 -2LANE | NORTE DAME ‘96 2nd season at NJIT | 7th overall

NJIT Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan announced Monday, May 21 the hiring of Mike Lane as the 12 th head women’s basketball coach in program history.

“I am very excited to announce Mike Lane as our new women's basketball coach,” Kaplan added. “Mike was a person of inter- est to us from the very beginning. His coaching background at academically strong universities, with winning women’s basket- ball programs, immediately put him on our short list. I am looking forward to working with Mike and his staff on getting our women's basketball program turned around, and making a run at an ASUN Conference title.”

Lane comes to NJIT after spending six seasons at Bucknell University as the top assistant coach, where he helped guide the Bison to a program-best 27-6 mark, Patriot League title and conference championship while earning a berth to the NCAA Tour- nament in 2017.

Lane, who arrived at Bucknell in 2012, was instrumental in the Bison’s three consecutive seasons of 20+ wins, a 48-6 mark in

“I am honored to be named the head coach of women’s basketball at NJIT,” Lane commented. “I would like to thank President Bloom, Lenny Kaplan, Peg Hefferan and the entire athletic department for entrusting me with leading this program. This is an exciting time to be a Highlander especially with the Wellness and Events Center as our new home. Our program will represent the institution, Newark and New Jersey with pride.”

Lane, who arrived at Bucknell in 2012, was instrumental in the Bison’s three consecutive seasons of 20+ wins, a 48-6 mark in the Patriot League play in the last three seasons, share of the regular season Patriot League title and earning a Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) bid twice (2015; 2018). In 2015, Bucknell won the first-ever postseason game in program history.

“I would also like to thank my Bucknell family for six incredible years,” Lane added. “I would not be in this position without them and will forever be grateful for their efforts on my behalf.”

Prior to Bucknell, Lane served as head coach of Division III Dominican University, leading the Stars to a 69-61 overall record in five seasons.

In 2011, Lane earned Northern Athletics Conference Coach of the Year, led Dominican to a school-record 20-win season, captured the first-ever NAC South Division title and ranked 17th in the nation in points per game (74.1).

The following season, Dominican (19-9) won its second straight NAC South Division title, reached the NAC Tournament Championship game for the first time in school history and set the program-record for three-point field goals (218), which ranked seventh in NCAA Division III.

Lane started his collegiate coaching career at Division III University of Chicago as an assistant coach in 2005.

At Chicago, he helped the team to a 35-15 overall record, including an undefeated non-conference record (22-0). Lane assisted in Chicago earning the programs first-ever No. 1 ranking in the USAToday/ESPN national poll during the 2006-07 season while establishing the best start to a season with a school-record 16-game win streak.

The 2006-07 team set school-records in rebounds in a season, finished fourth nationally in rebounding margin (+10.8) and 24th in field goal percentage defense (33.9 percent).

His first coaching experience came at the high school level, as he served as the boys’ varsity assistant coach at Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, IL from 2003- 05.

A 1993 graduate of Notre Dame, Lane earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing.

What They’re Saying Aaron Roussell, Bucknell head women’s basketball coach (2012-present) "Mike has been a huge part of our success at Bucknell; we will miss him here, but we are incredibly happy for him to have the opportunity to lead his own pro- gram. He has had a hand in all that we do here and he is more than ready to lead a resurgence for the women's basketball program at NJIT. Witnessing his work ethic and attention to detail over the last six years gives me the full confidence to say that this is a "can't miss hire"; and I look forward to closely following all of the success ahead for the Highlanders. I sincerely thank Mike for all he has done for our program and we wish the best of luck in this new endeavor."

Mike McLaughlin, UPenn head women’s basketball coach (2009-present) “Mike did a tremendous job helping build Bucknell into one of the best programs in the Patriot League. He is a great person and leader to be around. Mike puts forth his best effort in everything he does. I am looking forward to seeing him take NJIT to new heights in his new role as head coach.” #20 DANIELLE TUNSTALL SR | 5-11 | G | WILLINGBORO, NJ | LIFE CENTER ACADEMY
