  • Winter Olympics Code Breaker
Winter Olympics Code Breaker Amazing Winter Olympic Stories • In the 1988 Winter Olympics, Jamaica entered its first team in the bobsleigh, which was amazing as they had to practise without snow in Jamaica! It was such a great story that it inspired the 1993 film ‘Cool Runnings’. • From 1929 until 1988, Team GB had no ski jumpers; that was until Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards came along in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. He came last but was a British ski jump record holder, going on to become a TV personality and stunt skier. In 2016, the film ‘Eddie the Eagle’ was released telling his story. • Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are two of Team GB’s most famous Winter Olympic stars, having won the gold medal in 1984 with their ‘Bolero’ ice dance. They were world champions three times, British Champions seven times and both have MBEs. They now underpin the TV show ‘Dancing on Ice’. Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte (ITA) win Short Dance Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte of Italy won the Short Dance. Defending champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron of France came second and Russia’s Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev follow in third place. Dancing to Waltz and Polka from “The Merry Widow”, Cappellini/Lanotte picked up a level four for the twizzles, the first part of the Ravensburg Waltz pattern, the step sequence and the rotational lift. The 2014 European Champions posted a new season’s best with 72.31 points. “We tried to improve the short dance a lot. We have made a lot of changes especially in the second half of the dance. We think that it has already paid off but since essentially the whole second part is completely different, it’s not as well trained as the rest of it. Sometimes it has been better than today but we are positive and optimistic for the World Championships”, Cappellini told the post-event press conference. Papadakis/Cizeron’s dance to “Charms” by Abel Korzeniowski featured four level-four elements including the two sections of the Ravensburger.

March 21, 2019 Saitama, Japan Wenjing Sui/Cong Han (CHN) soar to Pairs gold in Saitama China’s Wenjing Sui/Cong Han soared to the Pairs gold medal as the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama (JPN) on Thursday. Russia’s Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov settled for the silver medal while their teammates Natalia Zabiiako/Alexander Enbert earned the bronze. All three teams set new seasons best scores. Skating last, Sui/Han delivered a brilliant performance to “Rain, In Your Black Eyes” by Ezio Bosso, hitting a triple toe-double toe-double toe combination, triple twist, triple Salchow, throw triple flip and throw triple Salchow as well as level-four lifts. The reigning Olympic silver medalists scored 155.60 points for their Free Skating and moved up from second to first at 234.84 points to win their second World title after 2017. “We are very happy to have shown our best performance and to win this Championship. We had a tough time we could not prepare so well and did not have much time to practice. Our coaches and our team gave us a lot of support and we knew we can make it and get the title. Winning the second time was harder and it was a team effort,” Sui commented. Overnight leaders Tarasova/Morozov turned in a strong performance to “Winter” by Balmorhea that featured a big triple twist, throw triple loop and Salchow as well as spectacular lifts. However, Morozov was somewhat shaky on the solo jumps triple toe and triple Salchow. The two-time European Champions picked up 147.26 points and slipped to second at 228.47 points.
