During the last state of the union address done by the Chilean president, Sebastián Piñera, on June 1st, 2019, one of the announcements attracting more attention from the public, and particularly from the scientific community, was the transformation that Chile will undergo regarding the space field. In less than three years, Chile will go from one satellite (Fasat Charlie), which has reached the end of its service life, to have between six to ten satellites for military and civil use. This ambitious plan will start with a tender within the next few months to acquire a satellite. The new space program will include the acquisition and launching of a modern satellite, which will be able to work with other devices, therefore not replacing another satellite, but allowing the evolution of the national satellite system. “We will have a system providing information about climate change, global warming, Space: emergencies and catastrophes", explained the the next step. Chilean Defense Minister, Alberto Espina. In 2017, the Universidad de Chile launched into orbit a nanosatellite, called "Suchai", which was able to orbit the Earth eight thousand times in 16 months. The next goal is to locate a constellation, place between 9 to 12 nanosatellites in space and develop a satellite system. In order to work together towards the space development, during March of this year, this university and the Chilean Air Force signed an agreement to strengthen the Chilean Space System in three main areas: institutional structure, budget and regulation framework. 3 4 FIDAE: Access gate to the space in America. In 1990, the International Air Fair, FIDA, integrated the space field, changing its name to International Air and Space Fair, FIDAE, and thus making this field one of the key factors of this exhibition, becoming a major platform where the supply, scientific development and the demand meet in one place. Since 2016, the foremost exhibition in Latin America diplays the Space Pavilion, where space agencies, telecommunications and observation satellite manufacturers, remote sensing, geographic information systems, cartography, photogrammetry, space data management developers and users, as well as other promoting the science and geospatial technology growth, may participate. Important advantages of FIDAE’s Space Pavilion include preferential prices and additional services such as parking spaces and advertising inside the fair venue. 5 FIDAE introduces its new website The International Air and Space Fair, FIDAE, has a new website, which represents an aesthetic and cultural change, offering to the different publics access to information and contents in a quick and easy way. This new platform is focused on projecting the FIDAE corporative image though a friendly and modern interface, offering better accessibility and effective communication for all types of users. On the website, you will find the exhibitor list of the foremost aerospace, defense and security exhibition of Latin America using an information search engine that will give you the company contact details to help you reach them, which in turn, will help to promote the participating companies. Moreover, it will have a specific section for the Air Show (Saturday and Sunday, April 4th and 5th, 2020) for the weekend public, acting as a completely new page with relevant information about the fair (accesses, recommendations, prices, etc.), videos and photo galleries of the future FIDAE 2020. The FIDAE website is already available at www.fidae.cl, where you can also directly access our social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Youtube y Twitter. 5 6 Low-cost market in Chile The low-cost market in Latin America is young compared to others in the continent, even more so in Chile. The low-cost airlines do not surpass the four-year-experience barrier, and Sky Airline is a national pioneer in introducing this market model with a 100% operability. This has created important changes in a growing business area, such as the introduction of new players, price wars and the increase in the passenger demand, which has made this new travel trend beneficial, positively affecting the market and the very people. Step by step, this segment has opened the market, at a national and regional scale, to new routes for domestic flights - for example, to Puerto Natales – and international flights – such as Peru, Brazil and Argentina. During February of the current year, over 700 thousand passengers were transported in national territory, which in the participation overall is a low number; however, according to a projection for the next ten years, the companies of this segment have a huge potential for growth. Besides Sky Airline, JetSmart also operates under this “new” modality, reaching market participation between the two of them of 34.8% during January and February of this year. A new company, Level, has joined them, as the first one to introduce low-cost flights between Santiago and Europe. Without a doubt, the low-cost system will represent a milestone in the transportation method for our country, becoming one of the most successful and profitable business models in the mid and long term. 7 Introduced in the twentieth edition of the International Air and Space Fair, FIDAE, in 2018, the "Pillan II" project considers an update for the basic military training aircraft manufactured by the Empresa Nacional de Aeronáutica (ENAER) and an operational cost reduction. PILLAN II: the evolution of a classic After a comprehensive technical and economic During its 35-year service, the T-35 "Pillan" has analysis regarding the service life of the T-35 been present in countries such as Spain, Ecuador "Pillan" aircraft (which nears the seven-thousand and Paraguay, among others.
