The basketball courts, located in Proesel Park, the premier park in the Parks and Recreation system, will be named the Jewell Loyd Basketball Courts. The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is proud to be able to recognize Jewell Loyd with this special honor. The Loyd family has lived in Lincolnwood for over twenty years. Jewell grew up attending Lincolnwood schools, playing basketball at Drake Park and then as a four-year starter at Niles West High School, where she achieved the distinction of becoming an All American and receiving a Division 1 scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. Jewell’s extraordinary athletic ability and performance continued as she became the second underclassman in league history to be the top draft pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft. After being drafted by the Seattle Storm, Jewell received Rookie of the Year Honors and was chosen second- team All-WNBA. Jewell has also helped to increase the awareness and understanding of dyslexia, which she was diagnosed with at a young age. She has since been named an international ambassador for Dyslexic Advantage, and is a spokesperson for Eye to Eye, another organization to help people with learning disabilities.
