  • 2018 Election Municipality of Grassland Special Issue
2018 Election Municipality of Grassland Special Issue For the office of Reeve Nick Nowazek I was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. My wife and I, Victoria, moved to the Minto area in 2008. We are now a family with three children. I’ve been a truck driver for over 20 years now. I have always been interested in politics. I was elected as a Councillor for the newly amalgamated Municipality of Grassland in 2014. I really enjoy getting out, meeting and working with the people in the area. In the election, I am running for Reeve. If I’m elected, I will look into more cost effective ways to do municipal works and road maintenance. I believe feasibility, accountability and responsibility should be worked into all municipal decisions. Blair Woods I have lived in this area since 1960. I attended school in Elgin and Hartney and became a farmer following a multi generation farming family. I have been involved with other organizations at local, provincial and national levels such as Snoman, Sunflower Association, 4-H and Lions Club. Council History - Councillor for Whitewater Municipality from 1986 - 2002 - Reeve for Whitewater Municipality from 2006 - 2014 - Reeve for Municipality from 2014 - 2018 I have been involved with the amalgamation of three councils into the Municipality of Grassland. I take pride in being part of this team and accomplishing positive changes for this area. I have maintained a good working relationship with residents, staff and council. I will continue the “open-door” policy in the future with all areas of concern for Grassland.

  • Saskatchewan Birding Trail Experience (Pdf)
askatchewan has a wealth of birdwatching opportunities ranging from the fall migration of waterfowl to the spring rush of songbirds and shorebirds. It is our hope that this Birding Trail Guide will help you find and enjoy the many birding Slocations in our province. Some of our Birding Trail sites offer you a chance to see endangered species such as Piping Plovers, Sage Grouse, Burrowing Owls, and even the Whooping Crane as it stops over in Saskatchewan during its spring and fall migrations. Saskatchewan is comprised of four distinct eco-zones, from rolling prairie to dense forest. Micro-environments are as varied as the bird-life, ranging from active sand dunes and badlands to marshes and swamps. Over 350 bird species can be found in the province. Southwestern Saskatchewan represents the core of the range of grassland birds like Baird's Sparrow and Sprague's Pipit. The mixed wood boreal forest in northern Saskatchewan supports some of the highest bird species diversity in North America, including Connecticut Warbler and Boreal Chickadee. More than 15 species of shorebirds nest in the province while others stop over briefly en-route to their breeding grounds in Arctic Canada. Chaplin Lake and the Quill Lakes are the two anchor bird watching sites in our province. These sites are conveniently located on Saskatchewan's two major highways, the Trans-Canada #1 and Yellowhead #16. Both are excellent birding areas! Oh! ....... don't forget, birdwatching in Saskatchewan is a year round activity. While migration provides a tremendous opportunity to see vast numbers of birds, winter birding offers you an incomparable opportunity to view many species of owls and woodpeckers and other Arctic residents such as Gyrfalcons, Snowy Owls and massive flocks of Snow Buntings.

  • Brick Manufacturing Manitoba Heritage Manitoba Consolidation
C O N S O L I D A T I O N 1897 – 1917 Consolidation Era (1897 – 1917) he few years before the turn of the twentieth century, and the first 10 years of the new century, saw Manitoba’s brick-making industry attain Tnew heights of production and operational sophistication. It was during these years that the largest and most technologically advanced operations in the history of the industry were attained (except for the very late entry of Lockport’s Red River Brick and Tile into the fraternity in 1971). And production was phenomenal. The first few years of this period were defined by two interconnected developments. The first was the inauguration of two new railway lines in Manitoba: the Canadian Northern (CNo, begun in 1896 in Manitoba and greatly expanded north and west through 1897 and 1899), and the Grand Trunk Pacific (begun in 1903 with construction to the west, via a more northerly route, beginning in 1905). Both of these new transcontinental lines brought even more opportunity for growth and development to Western Canada, and CNo was instrumental in opening the Parkland and Interlake regions of Manitoba to agricultural settlement, and thus a whole new market for southern brick-makers. The other development concerned immigration. With the success of Wilfred Laurier’s Liberals in the election of 1896, a new Manitoba Member of Parliament, Clifford Sifton (representing Brandon North) was appointed Minister of the Interior, and he quickly inaugurated a major new immigration policy. Seeking to populate the west with capable farmers, he had immigration agents reach out to Americans, people from Scotland and the North of England, and Eastern and Central Europe.

The Theodore Roosevelt Expressway and the Central North American Trade Corridor Prepared by Esther Tumuhairwe Mark Berwick Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute North Dakota State University Fargo, ND October 2008 Disclaimer The contents of this report reflect the work of the authors, who are responsible for the facts and the accuracy of the information presented. The U.S. Government assumes no liability for the contents or use thereof. North Dakota State University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, Vietnam Era Veterans status, sexual orientation, marital status or public assistance status. Direct inquiries to the Executive Director and Chief Diversity Officer, 202 Old Main, (701) 231-7708. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Corridor analysis has been completed for many different designations since the passage of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) in 1991. These studies have been conducted without a clear understanding or blueprint of what should be analyzed. Differences exist in corridor analysis between rural and urban, passengers and freight, the reason for the corridor analysis, and whether the corridor is recognized by all states, provinces, and counties it passes through. The steps necessary to establish a freight corridor are ambiguous therefore, a document that describes the analysis/study process would be beneficial. A review of other corridor studies is provided. The Theodore Roosevelt Expressway and the Central North American Trade Corridors are described, including how they connect to other corridors. This paper provides some demographic and geographic information, but does not address highway capacity needs, right of way needs, restricted speed policy, processes for determining future access, evaluation of current access right of way needs for future frontage roads, and bypass opportunities in and around communities.
