Book Club Debbie Blackledge 07766 143314 The Book Club meets once a month, on the second Monday, at 8.00pm, at members' homes, by rotation. Members read a particular book (not high- brow) and discuss it in a very informal way.

Bus Service County Council There is a bus service, calling at Gringley, from Buses 08449 808080 Gainsborough to route 83 (term-time only) and another from Gainsborough to route 97. For details of all bus services contact Nottinghamshire County Council.

Church - High Street Vicar - Revd Jonathan Smithurst The parish Church of St Peter & St Paul is on High The Rectory, Abbey Road, Mattersey Street in Gringley-on-the-Hill and is in the Diocese of DN10 5DX Southwell & . It is in a group with three 01777-817364 neighbouring parishes - of Clayworth, Everton and Mattersey. The normal time for the Sunday service at Gringley is 9.30am but occasionally there are united services for all 4 churches in the group held at a different time and these may be in one of the other churches. Full details of the month's service across the four parishes are shown in the monthly notice bulletin which is available at the back of church. Details are also posted on the church noticeboard and in the village magazine "The Beacon". While children are welcome at all our services, Family Services are specifically built round children and young people. Family Services are held in alternate months. They are designed to allow the whole family to participate.

Church - Bell-ringing Tower Captain - Ann-Marie Morley Gringley Church has an enthusiastic and active Bell 01777 818823 Ringing Group, which rings at Sunday services and for special occasions. The number of bells was increased to six in January 2002. For further information on how to become involved in bell- ringing, please contact the Tower Captain. New recuits always welcome, for whom training can be provided.

Church - Mothers' Union Jane Spittlehouse - 01777 817429 The four parishes run a Mothers' Union on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2.15pm, usually in Mattersey Church Hall. The MU has a long history of supporting Christian principles within marriage and welcomes all new members - men also.

Doctors' Surgery - Leys All appointments The Misterton Group Practice has two surgeries - Lane Misterton Surgery 01427 890206 at Misterton and Gringley. There are two doctors www.mistertongrouppractice.co.uk who both visit the Gringley surgery. Gringley surgery is open Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 12.30pm. There is an evening surgery on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6.30 p.m. until 8 p.m. If there is urgent need patients can have appointments at Misterton which has more extensive opening times.

Footpaths (Public) Gringley-on-the-Hill Parish Council There are 24 individual footpaths in the Parish of Gringley on the Hill. They vary in length and terrain, most are quite short but can be linked together to make longer, more interesting walks. It is also possible by linking up with other paths to walk to Clayworth, Everton and Misterton. There is also the Canal path that runs from Retford to West Stockwith which can be linked into our footpaths.A map showing all paths is situated in a case on the wall at the Old Post Office.

Gringley Good Misterton Centre - 01427 891872 There are volunteers in the village prepared to give Neighbours Scheme Tues & Thurs - 10am to 2pm time, practical help and emergency help that cannot Wed & Fri - 9am to 2pm be obtained from family or social services, such as Sat - 10am to noon hospital transport, emergency shopping/collecting . prescriptions, small household tasks, letters and form filling, basic emergency gardening tasks and helping people recently discharged from hospital.

Gringley History Club Chairman - Alan Hickman The Gringley History Club was formed in 2010 to 01777 817228 research the village's history. Money from the Heritage Lottery Fund was granted in 2011. The club meets of the third Thursday evening of most (but not all) months, at the Blue Bell. The atmosphere is informal and open to all. New members are always welcome. Additional social and historical events and outings are arranged occasionally. There is a comprehensive website including member ship information at www.gohistory.org.uk

- 3 - Groceries: Dairy Crest - contact on Milk deliveries are made by Dairy Crest three times Milk - Fishmonger www.milkandmore.co.uk a week - currently Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The fishmonger stops in the village - beside the bus stop on High Street - every other Tuesday around 11.00am.

Hospitals Hospital The nearest hospital, John Coupland Hospital, 01909 500990 Ropery Road, Gainsborough, has a Minor Injuries Doncaster Royal Infirmary Unit that is open from 8.00am to 8.00pm seven days 01302 366666 a week. The larger hospitals, Bassetlaw Hospital, John Coupland Blyth Road, Worksop S81 0BD and Doncaster Royal 01427 816500 Infirmary, Armthorpe Road, Doncaster DN2 5LT Retford Hospital have A & E Departments.The Retford Hospital has 01777 274400 no A & E or Minor Injuries Unit but runs various . clinics. Information can be found on the Notice Boards and the village website . The Parish Clerk is Peter Baines. Elections occur every four years, the next ones being in 2014 and 2018.

Methodist Church Rev Liz Childs (Minister) The Methodist Church is situated at the crossroads 01427 610057 of Cross Hill and Little Lane. A Methodist Church Mrs P Gray (Secretary) has stood on this site since approx 1834. The 01427 629250 weekly services are at 10.30am each Sunday with the exception of the Harvest Festival and Christmas services which take place at 6.00pm. All are welcome to join in worship.

Mobile Library Denman Library Retford The mobile Library visits the village every 4 weeks 01777 708724 on Fridays as part of North Mobile Route 5. The library calls on High Street at 13.55, Laycock Avenue at 14.15 and Low Street at 14.30

Games room, beer garden, smoking area. Meals available in the restaurant. Quiz night is Tuesday. Refuse/Recycling Bassetlaw District Council We have a two bin system. A blue bin for recycling Main switchboard items, mainly paper/cardboard and plastics. A 01909 533533 complete list of what items go in the blue bin is Bassetlaw Environment Service available from Bassetlaw District Council. Other 01909 534501 refuse goes in the green bin. The bins are emptied Waste Disposal Helpline alternately on Wednesday mornings. The bin needs 08449 808080 to be placed outside the gate on Tuesday evening. Ofsted inspected St Peter's in December 2009 giving it a 'good' rating. In addition to "good teaching and an interesting curriculum", the inspectors described our pupils as ones that are "courteous, friendly and relate well to adults and their peers". We achieved Gold Status for Healthy Schools.

St Peter's PTFA - contact school There is a very active Parent, Teacher and Friends 01777 817330 Association (PTFA) organising fund-raising events to provide funds for equipment and extra-curricular WI Secretary Ann-Marie Morley Theactivities. WI hold meetings on the first Wednesday of 01777 818823 each month in the Village Hall. As well as the monthly meetings there are some other Interest Groups. There is always a warm welcome for new members and visitors.

Toddlers Group Emma 01777 816715 Held at the Village Hall, Toddler Group welcomes all mums and children from birth to five years on Wednesday mornings during term time between 9.30 and 11am.

- 5 - Village Hall, High St. Simon Parker 01777 818161 We have a enthusiatic Community Centre /Community Centre, Committee looking after the Village Hall and the West Wells Lane soon to be opened Community Centre. They organise occasional plays and music events. There are also regular classes at the village hall. Currently (early 2013) they are: Antiques Wednesday afternoon and Body Balance (Yoga/Pilates based) Thursday evening. The Community Centre is available to hire for all types of functions, and over the coming months several new classes/activities are anticipated. Watch out for news in the Beacon and on the village website. Activities which currently take place in teh Village HAll will move to the new Community Centre as soon as it is open.
