Bush, and TODAY Show Host, Jenna Bush Hager Jenna: November 30th, 2011. Dearest Jenna and Barbara. After I heard that Henry, a thoughtful, great loving man gave Gampy's letter to you early, I felt I could relax and get my letter to you nearer to the actual birthday. So many things to debate. Do I write separate letters or do I write one letter to you both? You certainly are two distinctive, wonderful people and yet you're closer than any two people I Know. Random thoughts. God was good to you in that you were so different in a physical appearance, both lovely looKing. You're both smart and bright. Your interests are different and your friends are the same and different also. And friends. You girls have more fabulous friends and have shared some of them with us. ThanK you for that. Friends are friends forever as Michael W. Smith's song says. How true. I don't Know if I was supposed to write about your growing pains as normal young people growing up in an abnormal political world. You had them. So what? Among other things, thanKs to an amazing mother and father with the patience of saints, who set a good example and especially your own discipline, you have grown into absolutely wonderful, caring, giving, loving people. Gampy and I are so proud of you and love you more than you will ever know. -

Bush on the Couch
Lauren Langman Bush on the Couch by Lauren Langman ritics suggest that G. W. Bush’s presidency may well be the most Cimportant fact misshaping the 21st century; the long-term consequences may endure for generations. His less than compassionate conservatism has seen massive retrenchments from already niggardly social programs, and his disregard of the environment accelerated global warming. His economic policies created the largest budget deficit ever. His unilateral invasion of Iran has not only been a disaster for the people of that already hobbled country, but eroded alliances with Europe and earned the enmity of Muslims throughout the world. He is the perfect poster boy for recruiting terrorists. And his response to criticism has been his swagger, cocky smirk, and the (supposedly) affable disarming of critics. A spate of behind-the-scenes books has come out, showing Dubya determined to pursue a bellicose course yet blind to contravening evidence. According to Paul O’Neill and Richard Clarke, Dubya brushes aside critiques. He claims he is doing what God ordained. Does it sounds a bit scary when folks hear voices that bid them do battle? I always thought Joan of Arc was a bit schizy, but she at least seemed willing personally to fight for what she believed. Some hail the good Christian warrior fighting God’s battles against those who “are not with us,” meaning (1) the evil external enemies such as Osama Bin Laden and his terrorists who “hate our values”, (2) and those East Coast liberals who drink lattes, sip Chablis, drive Volvos, and support the murder of unborn babies. -

White House “Tails”
White House “Tails” Pets of the First Families he nine papier-mâché figures representing the beloved pets of some our nation’s First Families, T were first used by First Lady Laura Bush in her 2002 White House Christmas entitled All Creatures Great and Small. Florists and calligraphers, part of the regular White House staff, were called upon to create over 20 of the special ornaments that represented pets ranging from the ordinary to very extraordinary. Most First Families owned pets when they took up residence in the Executive Mansion, and occasionally more creatures great and small were acquired during each President’s administration. Many pets were gifts to the First Families from other countries. Some gifts, like the Russian dog, Pushinka, lived in the White House. Other more exotic ones were given to the National Zoo. Goats, cows, sheep, and horses that lived at the White House were working animals. Other animals just wandered onto to lawn of the White House or into the mansion itself and were either “adopted” or evicted by members of the First Families. Regardless of how the pets arrived or how long they remained with the Presidential families, each of their stories is fun and historic. The National First Ladies’ Library is proud to share with our guests the opportunity to see nine of the pet ornaments. We are aware of the distinct honor of hosting our “White House guests” and sincerely thank President George W. Bush for this rare loan of historic White House artifacts.
