Biodiesel is considered as potential alternative to regular fossil fuels to reduce emission in compromise with in the engine performance. To overcome this conflict in this research, we have studied the effect of using oxygenated fuel such as 2-Ethoxy Ethanol and 2- Methoxy Methanol with diesel as additive and the emission parameters of the engine such as Carbon monoxide, smoke, Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxide and Oxides of Nitrogen emissions are studied in detail. The results shows the reduction in smoke by 50% at lower speeds a further continues to reduce till 28% at higher RPMs. Similarly HC emission also showed reduced numbers from 44.22 ppm to 23.61 ppm at low speeds and 20.87 ppm to 7.35 ppm at high speeds. There was similar trend found in CO and CO2 emission. The oxygen present in the additive aim to increase in the NOx emission from 32 ppm to 36 ppm in low speeds and 15 ppm to 16 ppm at high speeds.

  • Custodial Deaths - Tamil Nadu Case (Sathankulam)
Custodial Deaths - Tamil Nadu Case (Sathankulam) Why in news? ‘Custodial death’ of a father and son in Sathankulam town in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district has led to protests. What happened? The deceased have been identified as P. Jayaraj (58), a timber trader, and his son, J. Benicks, 31. They ran a mobile phone service and sales centre in Sattankulam town in Thoothukudi district. On June 19, 2020, Jayaraj was in the mobile phone showroom of his son Benicks. Personnel from the Sathankulam police station were on patrol duty in the evening. The police picked him up for allegedly keeping the shop open in the evening in violation of lockdown restrictions. The police reportedly verbally abused Jayaraj and assaulted him. His son Benicks, who came to the spot, appealed to the police to release his father. When the police allegedly assaulted Jayaraj with a baton and roughed him up, Benicks tried to save his father. After thrashing the father and the son, the officers took them to the police station. The father and the son were arrested for allegedly keeping their outlets open after permitted hours. Both of them were booked under several sections of the IPC including - i. Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) ii. Section 383 (extortion by threat) iii. Section 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) They were remanded to judicial custody. The third day, after a medical check-up, the duo was lodged in the Kovilpatti sub-jail. That evening, local residents alleged that Benicks had complained of chest pain and Jayaraj had high fever.

IOSR Journal of Business and Management (IOSR-JBM) e-ISSN: 2278-487X.Volume 8, Issue 6 (Mar. - Apr. 2013), PP 37-42 www.iosrjournals.org A Study on Retail Service Quality with Special Reference to Kanyakumari District G.Rajesh Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, C.S.I. Institute of Technology, Thovalai, Kanyakumari District-629302. Tamil Nadu, India Abstract: The key determinant of the business performance in service industry is the service quality. In this paper an attempt has been made to study the retail service quality in Kanyakumari District with the help of instrument. The instrument used to measure service quality is the one developed by Dalholkar et.al., (1996). This paper identifies five important dimensions in retail service quality as ‘Personal Interaction’, ‘Reliability’, ‘Policy’, ‘Physical Assets’ and ‘Problem Solving’. The results reveal that retail outlets in Nagercoil and Marthandam are better in providing retail service quality than the retail outlets in other towns of Kanyakumari District. The important determinants of retail service quality gap among the customers is their level of education, occupation and age. Key words : Service quality, Retail outlet, Service Quality Gap I. Introduction: In India, the sales in organized retail industry was about Rs.16,000 crores in 2001-02 and estimated that it will cross Rs.37,000 crores by the year 2007. The industry is growing at the rate of 18 to 20 per cent per annum (Darshan Parikh, 2002). There are over two million retailers from the street cart hawkers to more sophisticated retail chain of stores (Nathan 2001). In terms of reach of retail facilities, it is reported that at the national level there were 42 families per retail outlet in rural area and 14 families per retail outlet in urban area (Sarwade, 2000).
