Analiza su posible origen en las cinco traducciones latinas más difundidas en el Renacimiento: las de Leonardo Bruni, Juan Argirópulos, Joachim Périon, Giovanni B. Feliciano y Nicolas de Grou- chy. Por último, demuestra su gran dependencia de la versión italiana de Bernardo Segni (Florencia, 1550, y Venecia, 1551), que estaba basada también en algunas de esas traducciones. Por lo tanto, su valoración como primera traducción castellana realiza- da «fiel y originalmente del mismo texto griego» debe ser reconsiderada. Other sources of Aristotle’s Ethics translated by Pedro Simón Abril: Latin translations and Bernardo Segni Abstract: This paper shows the differences between the Greek text of Aristotle’s Eth- ics and the Spanish translation made by Pedro Simón Abril. It analyzes as possible sources of Abril’s translation the five Latin translations that were the most common in the Renaissance: Leonardo Bruni, John Argyropoulos, Joachim Périon, Giovanni B. Feliciano and Nicolas de Grouchy. The study proves the strong dependence of Abril on the Italian translation made by Bernardo Segni (Florence, 1550, and Venice, 1551), which was based on some of these five Latin translations. -

Volterra Volterra, Known to the Ancient Etruscans As Velathri Or Vlathri and to the Romans As Volaterrae, Is a Town and a Comune in Tuscany
Volterra Volterra, known to the ancient Etruscans as Velathri or Vlathri and to the Romans as Volaterrae, is a town and a comune in Tuscany. The town was a Bronze Age settlement of the Proto-Villanovan culture, and an important Etruscan centre, one of the "twelve cities" of the Etruscan League. The site is believed to have been continuously inhabited as a city since at least the end of the 8th century BC. It became a municipium allied to Rome at the end of the 3rd century BC. The city was a bishop's residence in the 5th century, and its episcopal power was affirmed during the 12th century. With the decline of the episcopate and the discovery of local alum deposits, Volterra became a place of interest for the Republic of Florence, whose forces conquered it. Florentine rule was not always popular, and opposition occasionally broke into rebellions which were quelled by Florence. When the Republic of Florence fell in 1530, Volterra came under the control of the Medici family and subsequently its history followed that of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.4 The Roman Theatre The Main Sights 1. Talluto's Tortellini the Authentic
Talluto’s Tortellini the Authentic Way POSTED BY PHILLY FOOD GIRL on February 9, 2016 Leave a Comment I noticed something while shopping for pasta: some are significantly more expensive than the others! I attributed this to the quality of the product, but it turns out to be so much more than that. I decided to sit down with Joe Talluto of Talluto’s Authentic Italian Foods to hear what he had to say. If anyone was able to clarify, he was the man for the job! First, a bit about the history. Tortellini was founded in Northern Italy (Bologna). There are a few versions of how this pasta shape came-to-be; most of which involve navels (gasp!); you can read more about here. Tortellini are small, intricate, folded, and pinched pastas filled with a variety of ingredients such as meat, cheese, and/or herbs. Because there is only a very small amount of space for filling, the ingredients MUST shine! Americans generally eat tortellin in pasta salad, or with heavy tomato-based or cream sauces. This is a stark contrast to how they’re served in Italy: “in brodo” (broth). That’s right, broth! Talluto’s mirrors the Italian tradition, and fills the pasta with the best-of-the-best ingredients, allowing them to stand center-stage in beef or chicken stock. Unbeknownst to me, most manufacturers buy from other tortellini suppliers. Talluto’s makes all of their products in-house (see my previous post about ravioli) to maintain the integrity of the product. Locally, there is only one major supplier that pumps out tortellini to various companies. -
Italian Renaissance
The Renaissance (c. 1350–c. 1550) The word Renaissance means rebirth in French. The Renaissance was a period of artistic and cultural achieve- ment in Europe from the fourteenth to the sixteenth century. It was characterized by a number of distinctive ideas about life, specifically secularism, individualism, Humanism, and materialism. The spirit of the Renaissance influenced European society for generations, making the Renaissance truly a golden age in European history. If the Renaissance was a rebirth of culture, you might think that the period before the Renaissance was one of gloom and darkness. Actually, historians have shown that the Medieval Era, or Middle Ages, did produce art, architecture, literature, and other ideas in law, languages, and economics that influenced Europe in the fourteenth century and provided the foundation for the Renaissance. However, during the Middle Ages, writers and philoso- phers viewed society as a preparation for the afterlife. Renaissance writers were interested in the present or secu- lar world. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that Cotignola was strictly limited to the “villa” because the Descriptio assigns a re- markable number of ‘hearths’ to it, all of 144 focularia2 i.e. tax-paying family units, a considerable number for a late fourteenth century rural location in Romagna.3 In fact, in those days this ‘almost village’ must already have had a defensive wall build by the inhabitants of Faenza and Forlì in 1276, most prob- ably not a wall with a moat but a strong enclosure made of wood, or an em- bankment.4 The castrum may have been degraded to ‘villa’ because of the dire condition it was in when Anglic’s official visited, which is quite easy to imagine in consideration of the fact that the nearby Senio river must have frequently subjected the settlement to the perils of destructive floods. -
