Local Action Plan Alba Iulia
ALBA IULIA’s LOCAL ACTION PLAN -February 2015- LOCAL ACTION PLAN Gastronomic Cities Project –URBACT II 1. Introduction The history of Romania is best evidenced in Alba Iulia, which boasts the Alba Carolina Citadel, the most representative Vauban bastion fortification in Romania and the largest from the Central and South-Eastern Europe. Significant events took place here since Roman times, 2000 years ago, when APULUM (the ancient name of city of Alba Iulia) was the capital and the richest city of the Roman Province Dacia, until the moment of the coronation ceremony for the kings of the greater Romania. Alba Carolina Citadel was recently rehabilitated with national and EU funds, becoming a modern tourist attraction, where visitors can breathe the air of history. The citadel was built between 1715 and 1738 according to the plans of the military architect Giovanni Morando Visconti. With walls 12 kilometers long, the citadel is constituted of a central fort and 7 bastions with Baroque gates, unique in Europe. Inside the citadel the visitor can benefit of an authentic lesson of history from the Central and Eastern Architecture, passing from Roman to all the medieval and modern architectural styles. In the past few years, the rehabilitation works of the Vauban Alba Carolina Citadel - for which more than 60 million Euros have been invested - and the efforts carried out by Alba Iulia Municipality (City Hall) for enhancing the tourism potential and for increasing the visibility of the local heritage have been rewarded at national and international -

A mix of desk research, qualitative, and quantitative methods and tools were blended together in this research. An investigation of the wineries’ financial situations and online presence was further completed by the interviews with entrepreneurs, local public administration representatives, and residents in order to establish that business development on the wine-route is highly desired and would eventually enjoy the appreciation of both locals and tourists. Instead of conclusions, a framework for the sustainable development of Alba’s wineries is sketched, focusing on those elements that motivate international and also Romanian wine tourists to visit this destination, and emphasizing the need for the establishment of a destination management organization (DMO) capable of managing the interests of all stakeholders under the conditions of sustainable development. -

The production results recorded during the three years of experimentation highlighted in particular the favorable effect of irrigation on the production of grapes, in all three varieties, regardless of the applied fertilization level. Keywords : grapevines, irrigation regime, fertilization, Vitis vinifera , vineyard INTRODUCTION The town of Jidvei is located in the eastern part of Alba county, on the lower course of the Târnava Mic ă river, occupying the two moors of the river. -
Ampelographic and Agrobiolocal Description of a New Grape Variety
Ampelographic and agrobiolocal description of a new grape variety - Roze Blaj 1Maria Iliescu, 1Liliana Tomoiagă, 1Elena-Andreea Pop, 2Cătălina Dan, 2Anamaria Călugăr, 2Anca C. Babeș 1 Research Station for Viticulture and Enology Blaj, Romania; 2 University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Corresponding author: A. C. Babeș, [email protected] Abstract. Research Station for Viticulture and Oenology Blaj is working to create new vine varieties which addresse the consumer demands, keeping a high quality of grapes. The Roze Blaj vine variety is the newly created and approved by SCDVV Blaj and an important source of germplasm, for the continuation of the breeding activity. The study established the main ampelographic characteristics (botanical and agrobiological characters), resistance to abiotic stressors, cryptogamic diseases, pest attack, agrotechnical and production features. The Roze Blaj variety can be used to induce early ripening, sugar content in must, as well as resistance to manna and mites. It is recommended to cross with varieties, clones or hybrids with a lower sugar concentration in the must. Roze Blaj is a grapevine variety appropriate for white, dry or semi-dry, good quality wines. The variety has a great production potential, whereas the wine obtained has finesse and balance, thus being a successful option for a qualitative final product. The newly created variety, Roze Blaj, exceeded the grape production of the control, Traminer pink-60Bl, had a slightly lower sugar concentration, but with a more balanced acidity, with a very good sugar / acidity ratio. Key Words: Roze Blaj, repeated individual selection, grape vine, breeding, new grape variety. Introduction. -

Wine Road - an Instrument for the Valorisation of Wine Tourism Potential Case Study: Alba County Vineyards
Analele Universităţii din Oradea, Seria Geografie Year XXV, no. 2/2015 (December), pp. 195-210 ISSN 1221-1273, E-ISSN 2065-3409 Article no. 252107-683 WINE ROAD - AN INSTRUMENT FOR THE VALORISATION OF WINE TOURISM POTENTIAL CASE STUDY: ALBA COUNTY VINEYARDS Mihaela UNGUREANU University of Oradea, Department of Geography, Tourism and Territorial Planning University St., 410087, Oradea, Romania, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: The main aim of this study is to highlight the wine-growing and wine-making potential of Alba County and the way it can be valorised. Alba county has a rich wine- growing and wine-making heritage, a fact which is due to the long-standing tradition of wine- growing on these area, as well as to the characteristics of the natural factors (relief, geology, climate, soil), favourable for obtaining high-quality wines, the reputation of which has been acquired at national and international competitions. In order to render useful the wine tourism resources, the development of a specific infrastructure is needed, as well as the creation of complex tourist products, able to satisfy a wide range of tourist motivations. An efficient instrument to make productive the wine potential of a region is the „Wine Road" – a tourist trail which includes the tourist attractions of a delimited area, usually with a controlled designation of origin, and also a diverse range of tourist services (transportation, accommodation, catering leisure etc.). In Alba County, the „Wine Road" can be considered as a tourist attraction in itself, but also a means of harnessing the rich cultural-historical and natural heritage and, implicitly, the wine-growing and wine-making heritage. -
