76 2017/22 Trade in Endangered Species Order 2017 Explanatory note

Michael Webster, Clerk of the Executive Council.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect. This order updates the schedules of the Trade in Endangered Species Act 1989 (the Act) that list endangered, threatened, and exploited species. The changes align the schedules with changes that have been made to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (the Convention). Most of the changes come into force on the day after the date on which this order is notified in the Gazette. Some changes relating to the threatened species of sharks listed in Schedule 2 of the Act come into force on 4 April 2017 or 4 October 2017, depending on when the related changes to the Convention take effect.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012. Date of notification in Gazette: 23 February 2017. This order is administered by the Department of Conservation.
