MONDAY, APRIL 26, 2021 CADDO RIVER OUT OF DERBY 31 SHADES (& COUNTING) Shortleaf Stable's 'TDN Rising Star' Caddo River (Hard Spun) OF DERBY GRAY will not make the line-up for Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby after spiking a fever over the weekend. AWe noticed he was off his feed and took his temperature yesterday afternoon. It was slightly elevated,@ trainer Brad Cox said. AIt=s just really bad timing being this close to the Derby. We drew blood on him [Sunday] morning and his white cell counts were a little high. We just can=t run him on Saturday with being a little off his game.@ The defection of the GI Arkansas Derby runner-up will allow GII Remsen S. winner Brooklyn Strong (Wicked Strong) to enter the Derby field. The Mark Schwartz colorbearer, most recently fifth in the Apr. 3 GII Wood Memorial, is scheduled to work at Parx Monday morning for trainer Daniel Velazquez and could ship into Churchill Downs Tuesday morning if all goes well. • Ulysses Late Dash for Glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 Ulysses late dash for glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ulysses, who re-opposes his G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes conqueror Highland Reel in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), will be held up as long as possible in a bid to reverse the placings at Ascot on Saturday, July 29. Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family which owns Ulysses, said today: "In the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, maybe Ulysses thought job done when he hit the front, and we had to hold him up a bit more. "Jim Crowley did that when Ulysses won the Eclipse but even then he said to me 'I would have liked to have been more patient'. "As a horse matures, you learn more about him and what tactics he is comfortable with. A daring ride is the way it looks like." This was revealed today when QIPCO and Ascot Racecourse hosted a media event this afternoon ahead of the 2017 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), which is Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest and boasts a prize fund of £1.15-million. Ulysses is out to give trainer Sir Michael Stoute an unprecedented sixth win in the Ascot race, with his previous success coming with runaway winner Harbinger in 2010. It was Ulysses who provided Stoute with his sixth G1 Eclipse Stakes earlier this month when beating Barney Roy by a nose.

  • American-Trained Miss Temple City Has Royal Ascot in Her Sights for Third Time
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Wednesday, May 3, 2017 American-trained Miss Temple City has Royal Ascot in her sights for third time Excellent entries are unveiled today for the five Group Two contests for three-year-olds and upwards at Royal Ascot, which is staged from Tuesday, June 20 through to Saturday, June 24. Miss Temple City (Graham Motion USA) has performed very well at Royal Ascot for the past two years, finishing fourth, beaten two lengths, in the G1 Coronation Stakes in 2015 and occupying the same position again last year when going down by just over three lengths in the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes, both over a mile on turf. Now a five-year-old, Miss Temple City went on to win G1 contests at Keeneland (Shadwell Turf Mile) and Del Mar (Matriarch Stakes) following her latest fine effort at Royal Ascot in 2016, adding to her previous G1 success in the Maker’s 46 Mile Stakes at Keeneland in the spring of last year. The mare holds entries this time around in both the G1 Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day Tuesday, June 20, and the £175,000 G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes on Wednesday, June 21, for which she is one of 40 engaged – the second highest level of entries ever for the race. Trainer Graham Motion is looking forward to seeing how the daughter of Temple City performs this Saturday, May 6, when she makes her seasonal debut in the G2 Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile at the Kentucky track.

FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2018 BODY AND SOUL: ALL HAIL! LETTER FROM ASCOT: SHANG SHANG SHANG STARS FOR WARD by Dave Johnson In less than a London minute, Wesley Ward turned into a hero just after 2:35 in the afternoon at Royal Ascot in the G2 Norfolk S. The margin of victory was shorter than a nose, shorter than half-a-nose. It was a whisker. Because the Ward stable has been cold over the first two days, the price on Shang Shang Shang (Shanghai Bobby) climbed all morning long, up to 5-1. The fans were giving up on the 1984 Eclipse Award apprentice jockey turned conditioner, until this perfect sunny afternoon. His horse wore saddle cloth #10, and it was Royal Ascot winner #10 for Ward, the most successful trainer based outside Europe. Cont. p5 Blame | Claiborne photo by Robert D. Fierro, DataTrack IN TDN EUROPE TODAY The other day, we rolled down various leading sires lists in STRADIVARIUS ANSWERS GOLD CUP CALL search of a topic for this installment and immediately came to a Stradivarius gives Frankie Dettori his 60th Royal Ascot halt. That's because we noticed that Eclipse champion Blame winner in a thrilling finish to the G1 Gold Cup. Click or tap here had suddenly snuck up a few of those lists, to the point where to go straight to TDN Europe. he has to be considered a serious bet after what was probably a fair assessment that--echoing his racing career--he'd gotten off to a slow start as a sire. That statement was not meant to be anything other than a logical observation.
