Photo Credit: Dubai Racing Club // SECRETARIAT'S WORLD #RunToTheDWC18_7 Publishers Note In 2000, before Dubai Millennium won the World Cup (the horse was named with that goal in mind), Sheikh Mohammed said: “We must strive together, we must go forward, we must invent something – even from nothing. That’s what Godolphin is about, that’s what Dubai is about, that’s what me and my brothers are about.” Once again, Dubai did exactly that. With its lavish laser-light shows, horse acrobatics and fireworks racing folk and racegoers consider the event as a cross between Ascot and Cheltenham. They refer to The Dubai World Cup as one of the biggest events in the racing calendar. It is of course the richest raceday in the world. Thunder Snow started from the 10th and widest post and slipped ahead of West Coast early in the 2,000-meter race. He powered ahead by the halfway stage and finished with a terrific burst. For Thunder Snow trainer Saeed Bin Suroor, it was his eighth win in the $10 million main race. West Coast, trained by three-time Dubai World Cup winner Bob Baffert, was second. Baffert’s other horse, Mubtaahij, was third. It was the fourth Group One win of the night for Godolphin, owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. We hope you enjoy reading a blow by blow account of the proceedings on Dubai World Cup 2018 racenight. Until next year, we also bring down the curtain on the #RunToTheDWC18 series. • Zoustar Shining Bright at Tweenhills Cont
FRIDAY, 18 JANUARY 2019 ZOUSTAR SHINING BRIGHT DUBAWI FILLY TURNS ON THE >CHARM= IN CAPE VERDI AT TWEENHILLS On a night where four of the seven winners carried Godolphin silks, Poetic Charm (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-sister to champion juvenile Teofilo (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) no less, came from off the pace to win the global powerhouse=s seventh G2 Cape Verdi title at Meydan for trainer Charlie Appleby on Thursday. Fellow Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor provided the exacta with Asoof (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). It was the fourth consecutive year the royal blue colours had been carried to victory in the $250,000 1600-metre event and Appleby=s second Cape Verdi, having saddled Certify (Elusive Quality) in 2017. One of three for the Boys in Blue in the featured event of the night, Poetic Charm=s pilot James Doyle wore the blue cap and the 4-year-old filly justified that faith in no uncertain terms. Poetic Charm stayed well covered up in sixth while full of run as Monza (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) led the field down the Zoustar settling in at Tweenhills Stud | Tweenhills backstretch. Still showing plenty of zest at the half-way mark, the bay lacked racing room as the septet neared the straight. Cont. p5 Q&A by Alayna Cullen Tweenhills Stud has added a trio of intriguing sires to its roster in 2019, and one of those is Australian shuttler Zoustar (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}), who will stand his first Northern Hemisphere season for ,25,000. The Group 1-winning sprinter has got off to an excellent start Down Under with just a year and a half with runners, with highlights including a trifecta in last year=s G1 Coolmore Stud S., a Magic Millions 2YO Classic victory and group-race wins by Lean Mean Machine (Aus), Zousain (Aus), Charge (Aus) and Sun City (Aus).
