Photo Credit: Dubai Racing Club // SECRETARIAT'S WORLD #RunToTheDWC18_7 Publishers Note In 2000, before Dubai Millennium won the World Cup (the horse was named with that goal in mind), Sheikh Mohammed said: “We must strive together, we must go forward, we must invent something – even from nothing. That’s what Godolphin is about, that’s what Dubai is about, that’s what me and my brothers are about.” Once again, Dubai did exactly that. With its lavish laser-light shows, horse acrobatics and fireworks racing folk and racegoers consider the event as a cross between Ascot and Cheltenham. They refer to The Dubai World Cup as one of the biggest events in the racing calendar. It is of course the richest raceday in the world. Thunder Snow started from the 10th and widest post and slipped ahead of West Coast early in the 2,000-meter race. He powered ahead by the halfway stage and finished with a terrific burst. For Thunder Snow trainer Saeed Bin Suroor, it was his eighth win in the $10 million main race. West Coast, trained by three-time Dubai World Cup winner Bob Baffert, was second. Baffert’s other horse, Mubtaahij, was third. It was the fourth Group One win of the night for Godolphin, owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
