The 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour continues with the starred classification of its events, with three five-star events, all of which are the Major Series, nine four-star events, six three-star events, seven two-star events, and 22 one-star events, along with the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals. One FIVB Age Group World Championships for players under the age of 19 will also be held. The 2018 World Tour began in September of 2017 in France and concludes in August in Germany. 2018 marks the 32nd anniversary of the first FIVB Beach Volleyball event held February 17-22, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Four events played in 2017: France (Montpellier), China (Qinzhou), Netherlands (Aalsmeer), and Australia (Sydney), are part of the 2018 FIVB World Tour. Four events held in August- October, 2018 in Hungary (Siofok), France (Montpellier), and China (Qinzhou and Yangzhou) will be part of the 2019 FIVB World Tour. · The double-gender $600,000 FIVB Gstaad Major is the 33rd men’s and the 32nd women’s event on the 2018 FIVB World Tour. The FIVB returns to Switzerland for the 19th-straight season and 19th in Gstaad. For more information regarding the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, please visit fivb.com. · July 9-15, Gstaad, Switzerland, Men and Women, $600,000 – Switzerland has hosted 39 previous FIVB World Tour events, including a women’s only open in Gstaad in 2000, and double-gender events every year in Gstaad ever since. Starting in 2006, the events became Grand Slams, and the 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 events are part of the Major Series. In 2007, the FIVB World Championships were held in Gstaad. Lucerne also hosted a double-gender Open in 2015 and a three-star event this May. Host country Switzerland has won just five medals on its home soil, a men’s gold, silver, and two bronze, and a women’s bronze. · The FIVB Gstaad Major starts July 9 and concludes July 15.
