Ahli – Ahli Yang Berhormat. Lembaga Pengurusan Universiti dan Senat Universiti CUCMS. Seterusnya tuan-tuan dan puan-puan yang dihormati sekalian. Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh dan Salam Hormat. ALHAMDULILLAH, tiada kata yang dapat menggambarkan perasaan saya ketika ini. Dengan rendah diri, saya amat menghargai dan berterima kasih atas penghormatan luar biasa CUCMS berikan kepada saya. Sekalipun benar ada tempias jasa saya pada Negara dan bangsa, ia pasti tidak setimpal untuk melayakkan saya menerima penganugerahan sebesar ini. Segala usaha gigih dan kesabaran yang tidak pernah padam malah seakan tidak pernah wujud di dalam kamus kehidupan saya, kini terbalas. Lalu, tidak salah juga rasanya saya ingin kongsikan penghormatan ini dengan seluruh rakan taulan, keluarga dan para pegawai saya yang telah bertungkus lumus membantu saya sepanjang berkhidmat sehingga saya mencapai ke aras ini. Umum mengetahui saya pernah menjawat jawatan sebagai Menteri Besar Kedah selama beberapa tahun. Sepanjang menjawat jawatan tersebut, saya melihat isu pendidikan adalah tunjang utama ke atas kegemilangan sesebuah bangsa. Sesebuah bangsa itu terdidik jika mereka berilmu dan mengamalkannya. Bagi saya bidang pendidikan tidaklah begitu asing. Mula kerjaya saya adalah sebagai seorang pendidik. Saya memegang jawatan sebagai Pegawai Pendidikan di Negeri Sabah sebelum dilantik menjadi Pengetua Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gadong, Beaufort, Sabah. Pengalaman bekerja di beberapa Kementerian seperti Kementerian Tanah dan Pembangunan Koperasi, Pejabat Timbalan Presiden Akademik (AIARC) 2 DRAFT DUA Kementerian Pelancongan Malaysia serta Kementerian Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air Malaysia memberikan saya pengalaman yang luas. Justeru, pada hari yang bersejarah buat diri saya ini, saya memilih untuk berbicara mengenai bidang yang sangat dekat di hati saya iaitu bidang pendidikan di Malaysia. Menjawat jawatan sebagai Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia adalah salah satu tugas yang mencabar buat diri saya. Mendepani isu-isu pendidikan yang pelbagai, pengubalan dasar-dasar Pendidikan Kebangsaan, menetapkan dan mengkaji Bidang Keberhasilan Utama Negara (NKRA) Pendidikan menjadikan kita tidak harus menyepi dan berdiam diri setelah pelbagai pendekatan dirancangan untuk menambahbaik sistem pendidikan Negara. Segala usaha dan pendekatan harus dijalankan secara tuntas. Bermula daripada Prasekolah dengan meningkatkan kadar penyertaan kanak-kanak berumur linkungan 4 sehingga 5 tahun serta meningkatkan kualiti pendidikan prasekolah dengan menjadikan prasekolah swasta dan agensi-agensi lain sebagai sebahagian daripada sistem pendidikan kebangsaan. Bidang Keberhasilan Utama Negara (NKRA) Pendidikan yang kedua juga turut menekankan agar setiap kanak-kanak menguasai kemahiran literasi dan numerasi selepas mengikuti 3 tahun pendidikan rendah. Sasaran kerajaan juga ingin mewujudkan Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi yang mempunyai etos, karakter dan identiti tersendiri. Sekolah-sekolah seumpama ini dapat melonjakkan kecemerlangan pelajar ke peringkat paling tinggi. Jika diperhatikan pencapaian Malaysia sejak lima dasawarsa yang lepas, segala pencapaian bidang pendidikan adalah ekoran daripada usaha para pendiri bangsa yang menerokai seluas-luasnya peluang dalam pendidikan tinggi. Kerana, mereka dan kita semua percaya bahawa kejayaan ekonomi yang hebat, kebangkitan bangsa yang bermaruah dan seterusnya menjadi negara yang bermartabat memerlukan modal insan itu dibongkar dan diiktiraf. Pejabat Timbalan Presiden Akademik (AIARC) 3 DRAFT DUA Ianya bermula daripada awal, dan diteruskan ke peringkat pendidikan tinggi. Peranan Universiti, tidak kira IPT Awam mahupun IPT Swasta sebagai khazanah ilmu tidak harus dipertikai malah lebih harus diperkasa dalam menuntun masyarakat yang bertamadun. Hadirin dan hadirat yang dihormati sekalian, Saya tidak dapat menidakkan peranan CUCMS di bidang pendidikan khususnya di dalam melahirkan graduan-graduan perubatan, farmasi, perubatan tradisional dan komplementari, sains kesihatan bersekutu dan sebagainya tidak harus di pandang sepi. Penubuhan awal CUCMS adalah sejajar dalam usaha memenuhi keperluan pelajar cemerlang yang tidak dapat memasuki IPT Awam untuk menyambung pengajian dalam bidang perubatan dan farmasi di dalam negara seharusnya di jadikan contoh. Pendirian dan teras utama CUCMS adalah untuk melahirkan graduan yang bersifat holistik tidak hanya tertumpu kepada bidang ilmu tetapi juga berpaksikan kepada akhlak serta sahsiah diri yang cemerlang harus dikekalkan. Ini pada saya sangat relevan untuk menjayakan transformasi pendidikan di mana bakal graduan seharusnya berakhlak dan berilmu yang siap siaga untuk menceburi pasaran kerja dan menghadapi kepelbagaian dan cabaran abad ke-21. Percambahan kursus-kursus yang ditawarkan di CUCMS juga harus dipuji. Ini menjadi penanda aras bahawasanya CUCMS benar-benar komited di dalam melahirkan modal insan yang dapat menyumbang kepakaran mereka di dalam bidang masing-masing. Terbaharu, saya di beritahu CUCMS bakal menawarkan satu lagi kursus Elektif iaitu Pengurusan Pendidikan bagi Program Sarjana Pengurusan Perniagaan. Ia sekaligus membuka peluang serta ruang mempelajari dan meningkatkan kompetensi, pengetahuan dan profesionalisme dalam pengurusan pendidikan ke arah sistem pendidikan bertaraf dunia. Seperti yang dipetik pada pernyataan Pejabat Timbalan Presiden Akademik (AIARC) 4 DRAFT DUA dasar bagi Latihan Pengurusan dan Kepimpinan Pendidikan, Dasar Pendidikan Kebangsaan. Pejabat Timbalan Presiden Akademik (AIARC) 5 DRAFT DUA Hadirin dan hadirat yang dihormati sekalian, Saya ingin mengakhiri ucapan saya dengan menyeru agar semua yang hadir pada hari yang sangat istimewa ini, membulatkan azam untuk menjadikan CUCMS ini sebagai pelopor bidang ilmu yang lain di samping mengimbangi ketinggian sahsiah dan mengukuhkan jati diri bakal graduan yang menyumbang kepada kejayaan Negara. Saya tidak mahu menjanjikan bulan dan bintang, tetapi saya akan cuba sebaik mungkin mencurahkan kepakaran, tenaga, serta buah fikiran saya kepada CUCMS dan kepada Negara Malaysia amnya. Sekali lagi, sekalung penghargaan saya ucapkan atas penghormatan luar biasa ini. Saya akan mengenang momen ini selamanya, ditandai sebagai momen yang sangat istimewa juga sebagai peringatan bahawa masih banyak lagi yang perlu saya lakukan sebagai Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia demi melihat Negara Malaysia yang kita cintai ini hebat di mata dunia. Parental involvement in the school should be increased as it can affect student achievement and boost school excellence. Reforms and changes in schools cannot be implemented effectively and completely without the support of parents. The findings of previous studies found that elements such as demographics and social background of parents were found to affect parental involvement in school. In addition, the results of previous studies also show that the formation of parents' identities as partners and the practice of creating space for parents greatly encourage them to be actively involved.However, research shows that parental involvement in schools across Malaysia has not yet reached a proud level. This concept paper has implications for policy, training, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), administrators and teachers in terms of recognizing the identity of parents as partners who can contribute to the school, adopt an open door policy, and promote openness through creating space and various forms of activities to encourage parental participation. In conclusion, the emphasis on parental involvement as a core feature is very important because it can contribute to the effectiveness of the school management.
