The class also had appointments at JumpStart; Gov. Deval Patrick's office; the Massachusetts Department of Environmental

Protection; and Mathematica Policy Research.

Badgett Remarks Highlight Two LGBT Landmarks Comments from Professor M.V. Lee Badgett (economics) have made national news recently, as two public policies related to gay rights have marked significant milestones. Earlier this month, the U.S. Senate passed the Employment Non­Discrimination Act, which would make it illegal to discriminate in the workplace based on sexual orientation. Badgett testified in favor of the bill last year and was interviewed by Inc. after the Senate passed it. In addition, Badgett was quoted widely in articles marking the 10th anniversary of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's ruling to allow same­sex marriage in the state.

Fountain Publishes Report on Cross­Agency Collaboration and Article on Rollout of HealthCare.gov Professor Jane Fountain (political science and public policy) released a report last month titled "Examining Constraints To, and Providing Tools For, Cross­ Agency Collaboration," through the Administrative Conference of the United States, a public­private partnership whose goal is to make government work more efficiently. In addition, Fountain published an article for the London School of Economics analyzing the rollout of the federal health care exchange, HealthCare.gov.

Schweik's Unique Research Combination the Focus of New Feature Article Associate Professor Charles Schweik (environmental conservation and public policy) is featured in a new article on the UMass Research Next website. The piece highlights Schweik's trajectory from computer programmer to tenured professor and examines how he is using his research and field work to try to tackle some of the world's wicked problems.
