Nfl All-Stars Take Center Stage in 2018 Pro Bowl FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 1/23/18 NFL ALL-STARS TAKE CENTER STAGE IN 2018 PRO BOWL -- Pro Bowl Kicks Off Super Bowl Week at 3PM EST on ESPN and ABC on Sunday, January 28 -- -- All-Stars Face Off in Skills Showdown Airing Thursday, January 25 at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN -- The 2018 Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, January 28, at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium and will kick off at 3:00 PM ET and be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes and simulcast on ABC. The Pro Bowl returns to Orlando for the second consecutive season, and will feature the league’s all-stars and Legends Captains taking part in youth activities and community events during a week-long celebration of the football community. Returning this year, the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, pitting AFC and NFC All-Stars against each other in unique competitions, will air on Thursday, January 25 at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN. Each Skills Showdown team will feature a mix of quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linemen, linebackers, defensive backs and kickers. Pro Football Hall of Famer and 11-time Pro Bowler DERRICK BROOKS, three-time Pro Bowler WARRICK DUNN, Pro Football Hall of Famer and six-time Pro Bowler JASON TAYLOR and Pro Football Hall of Famer and five-time Pro Bowler LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON will serve as 2018 Pro Bowl Legends Captains. Tomlinson (offense) and Taylor (defense) will lead the AFC, while Dunn (offense) and Brooks (defense) will direct the NFC. The four Legends Captains, who were collectively selected to 25 Pro Bowls, will serve as mentors for the Pro Bowl players and be present on the sidelines on gameday. The 44-man Pro Bowl teams are comprised of 21 offensive and 18 defensive players plus five specialists, including a long snapper. MIKE TOMLIN and the coaches from the Pittsburgh Steelers will lead the AFC Pro Bowl team and SEAN PAYTON and the coaches from the New Orleans Saints will head the NFC squad. Ten players from the two teams participating in Super Bowl LII, the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS and PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, were selected to the original Pro Bowl roster: quarterback TOM BRADY, fullback JAMES DEVELIN, tight end ROB GRONKOWSKI and special teamer MATTHEW SLATER of the Patriots and guard BRANDON BROOKS, interior lineman FLETCHER COX, tight end ZACH ERTZ, strong safety MALCOLM JENKINS, tackle LANE JOHNSON and quarterback CARSON WENTZ of the Eagles. Safety DEVIN MC COURTY and tackle NATE SOLDER of the Patriots were also selected to the Pro Bowl as alternates. The Pro Bowl players were determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-star teams. In 1995, the NFL became the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting. Under terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each player on the winning Pro Bowl team receives $64,000, while each player on the losing squad earns $32,000. Tickets are on sale now at ProBowl.com. Last year’s sold-out event – the Pro Bowl’s first time in Orlando – featured a capacity crowd of more than 60,000. Fans may visit ProBowl.com for additional information on Pro Bowl Week, which features a variety of free, family-friendly events in Orlando. • Eagles' Team Travel
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn PHILADELPHIA EAGLES Team History The Eagles have been a Philadelphia institution since their beginning in 1933 when a syndicate headed by the late Bert Bell and Lud Wray purchased the former Frankford Yellowjackets franchise for $2,500. In 1941, a unique swap took place between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that saw the clubs trade home cities with Alexis Thompson becoming the Eagles owner. In 1943, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh franchises combined for one season due to the manpower shortage created by World War II. The team was called both Phil-Pitt and the Steagles. Greasy Neale of the Eagles and Walt Kiesling of the Steelers were co-coaches and the team finished 5-4-1. Counting the 1943 season, Neale coached the Eagles for 10 seasons and he led them to their first significant successes in the NFL. Paced by such future Pro Football Hall of Fame members as running back Steve Van Buren, center-linebacker Alex Wojciechowicz, end Pete Pihos and beginning in 1949, center-linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the Eagles dominated the league for six seasons. They finished second in the NFL Eastern division in 1944, 1945 and 1946, won the division title in 1947 and then scored successive shutout victories in the 1948 and 1949 championship games. A rash of injuries ended Philadelphia’s era of domination and, by 1958, the Eagles had fallen to last place in their division. That year, however, saw the start of a rebuilding program by a new coach, Buck Shaw, and the addition of quarterback Norm Van Brocklin in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
