We believe in creating quality life-long experiences for men, women, and children.” 5 Logan River Golf Course Mission Statement “Creating the finest public golf facility in the country is the goal of ‘The River’.” Logan City Core Purpose “The City of Logan exists to sustain and enhance life for Logan citizens.” 6 Purpose of the Master Plan The purpose of the Logan River Golf Course Master Plan is to guide the future development, improvements, and decisions for the course over the next 5-10 years. The Master Plan is a translation of staff, player, and community vision into a tangible, realistic planning tool. It incorporates the goals and objectives of the staff, players, and community and identifies strategies for its implementation with regard to all aspects of the course including facilities, equipment, infrastructure, environment, personnel, revenue, expenditures, and so forth. In essence, the Master Plan becomes the yardstick for golf course development. The data collected for the development of the Golf Course Master Plan was gathered by various methods. These included public scoping meetings, input from department staff, input from the Golf Advisory Board, input from golfers including the Men’s and Women’s Association at Logan River. A user survey was also conducted to determine the amount of play at Logan River Golf Course in correlation to the course's financial reports. Fewer people are participating, environmental restrictions are altering construction and maintenance practices, and improved equipment technologies have necessitated longer golf holes increasing management and playing costs. There is a lack of research examining the influence that golf course architecture has had on the evolution, and current state, of the game of golf. This study explored connections between the evolution of golf architecture and external influences such as technology, media, social trends, the economy and allied professional fields. A decade- by-decade breakdown revealed 10 eras and 8 schools of design. This process led to the recognition of two high points in the evolution of golf course architecture, one pre-WWII and one on-going since 1995. Questionnaires were sent to 35 leading designers, from which aggregate findings were compared to writings of 35 pre-WWII designers. The San Francisco Planning Department (Department) provided the 40% match as required by the OHP. The grant period ran from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010. A draft of the Modern context statement, submitted to the OHP on September, 30 2010, was approved. The Department developed the Modern context statement in order to provide the framework for consistent, informed evaluations of San Francisco’s Modern buildings and landscapes. The Modern context statement links specific property types to identified themes, geographic patterns, and time periods. It identifies character‐defining features of Modern architectural and landscape design and documents significance, criteria considerations and integrity thresholds. This detailed information specific to property types will provide future surveyors with a consistent framework within which to contextually identify, interpret and evaluate individual properties and historic districts. The Modern context statement is intended to be used, along with past surveys such as the 1976 Department of City Planning Architectural Survey, to inform historic and cultural resource surveys and to ensure that property evaluations are consistent with local, state, and federal standards. REQUIRED HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION ACTION The Planning Department requests the Historic Preservation Commission to adopt, modify or disapprove the San Francisco Modern Architecture and Landscape Design 1935‐1970 Historic Context Statement.
