Outer is a venture-backed startup based in Santa Monica, California on a mission to get people outside and inspire healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives by creating innovative outdoor furniture.

We started by creating the perfect outdoor sofa: beautiful, durable, comfortable, and innovative. We also invented a new model for retail because we believe that the furniture buying experience can be much better than stale, traditional showrooms with four walls, fluorescent lighting, and pushy salespeople. Our Neighborhood Showroom platform that turns our customers' backyards into our physical showrooms ​ where our customers can see, touch and feel our products in a real backyard alongside a real customer (think: Airbnb meets retail).

Our Co-Founder & Chief Officer was the former Head Furniture Designer at Pottery Barn, and our founding team brings decades of experience from Casper, IDEO, Nike, Thrive Market, Match.com, and Riot Games.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a qualified Product Manager to join our growing Product team and oversee Outer’s eCommerce product domain. In this role, you will be responsible for owning the product vision and strategy for Outer’s consumer-facing eCommerce experiences. You will closely collaborate with UX design, engineering, cross-functional teams, and executive stakeholders as you work to conceptualize and execute product initiatives that impact key metrics across our eCommerce business.

The right person for this role is highly empathic, analytical, and has the ability to collaborate with a variety of different teams and stakeholders. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Given the stage of Outer, and the evolving business strategy and needs of the company, this role will evolve over time. Below is a list of the foreseeable responsibilities:

● Develop a deep understanding of our customers and champion innovative digital experiences based on their needs and pain points ● Offer data-driven insights about the shopper journey and propose, develop, and launch solutions that will continuously optimize the path to purchase ● Define, own, and communicate on-site KPIs throughout the organization that demonstrates digital product performance, all while always being aligned with the overarching company strategy and goals ● Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage site content through our CMS for new product launches and regular updates ● Own relationships with existing platform partners (Shopify Plus, Okendo, Friendbuy, and Attentive, etc.), as well as identify, select, and champion new partner solutions that will help us deliver a world-class shopper experience ● Champion an agile workflow through daily standups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and retrospectives ● Collaborate with Engineering & Design to scope, plan, and execute the near-term development backlog, as well as planning out and executing our longer-term product roadmap ● Develop strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the organization and ensure there is constant alignment with the overarching strategy and goals of the business

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

● Minimum 4 years of experience in Product ● Ecommerce experience is a must ● Experience working in an early-stage startup is strongly preferred ● Experience working in hybrid agile or agile environments is required ● Bonus points for: ○ Proficiency in SQL and/or other statistical languages ○ Experience working with headless eCommerce solutions ○ Experience as an engineer and/or designer ○ Experience working at a venture-backed startup throughout several stages of high-velocity growth

● Effective roadmap management and the ability to prioritize and communicate requirements to cross-functional teams while remaining aligned with business KPIs and strategies

● Ability to define user journeys and continually identify opportunities to improve experiences across consumer and operational touchpoints ● A deep sense of empathy and understanding of end-user satisfaction with the ability to capture it in an actionable way ● A commitment to thoughtful experimentation to constantly improve experiences across the eCommerce journey ● Prior experience working on scalable e-commerce infrastructure and systems that have generated measurable impact against key business metrics ● A demonstrated ability to own projects and collaborate with UX designers, researchers, executives, and cross-functional teams ● An ability to gather objectives and business needs and effectively translate them into product requirements and actionable initiatives for development and product design teams ● A passion for data that you use to uncover insights and opportunities. You’ve experienced the positive impact that data can have on your objectives, but you’re also able to recognize when it can lead you astray ● You have a drive towards action and constantly push for clarity even in the face of ambiguity and uncertainty ● You possess the ability to captivate audiences and build consensus through compelling product roadmaps, project briefs, and performance reports
