Hopkins NEW YORK LIZARDS LACROSSE NYLIZARDS.COM | 516-742-1180 Week 9 Game Preview The Lizards look to get a point in the win column against the Rochester Rattlers after a tough 15- 14 OT loss to Florida on Saturday. Who: Rochester Rattlers vs. New York Lizards When: Saturday, June 17, 2017. 7:00pm Where: James M. Shuart Stadium, Hempstead, NY Watch: Lax Sports Network and Twitter (MLL Game of the Week) Week 9 Pregame Notes The Lizards head back home to Long Island and face off against the Rochester Rattlers (4-3) in a clash of New York MLL teams. New York (2-4) is currently on a three game skid and has been challenged with unpredictability on both offense and defense through six games. Matt Gibson has been one of the real bright spots this season for the Lizards, as he has scored 15 goals and totaled 19 points, which are both team bests. Paul Rabil doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon, as he has 13 goals this season, including 11 in his last four games. Joe Walters continues to shine in green and black since being acquired in the offseason, as the veteran leads the team with nine assists and is tied for second with Rabil in points with 18. Kyle Hartzell and Kevin Unterstein have also been dependable on both ends of the field throughout the season, as they both rank second and third on the team in ground balls. Week 8 Recap New York looked to come back after a tough 13-10 defeat to the Florida Launch at home. This was the second consecutive game in a back-to-back home series, this time heading to Florida. The team got their momentum going at the start, as both Kevin Unterstein and Dave Lawson both scored nearly two minutes into the contest. Paul Rabil would score three consecutive goals in just the second quarter alone, guiding the Lizards to a 7-3 halftime lead. The second half would be a completely different game, as the Launch would cut the deficit to two goals after three quarters, with New York leading 9-7. After four straight goals from Florida to begin the fourth, followed by three goals from the Lizards, New York led 12-11 with 4:15 remaining. With the scored tied at 13, Matt Gibson would net one with just 15 seconds left, giving the Lizards a one point advantage, and what looked to be the game winner. However, Florida would charge right back, and with three seconds left in regulation, Ryan Drenner would score his third of the night, sending the game into overtime. The fourth quarter alone featured five separate times in which the score was tied. NEW YORK LIZARDS LACROSSE NYLIZARDS.COM | 516-742-1180 After a slow start in overtime, the Launch would eventually score with 6:31 remaining on a game winning goal from Florida defenseman Alec Tulett, defeating the Lizards by a score of 15-14.

  • Bayhawks Look to Maintain Their Perch Atop MLL Standings
Bayhawks Look to Maintain Their Perch Atop MLL Standings Posted by TBN On 06/14/2012 Chesapeake continues home stand against improved Hamilton squad Hamilton was not at full strength the first time it played Chesapeake this season. The Nationals were missing a slew of key players and were blown out by the Bayhawks, 20-7, on their home turf. Three players – attackmen Cody Jamieson and Stephen Keogh along with midfielder Joe Walters – were still playing indoor for the Rochester Knighthawks, champions of the National Lacrosse League. Two starting defensive midfielders – Steven Waldeck and Danny Burns – were also not available for that May 18th contest. Asked during this week’s Major League Lacrosse teleconference what Hamilton must do to avoid another lopsided loss to Chesapeake, head coach Regy Thorpe said: “We have all of our players so that’s a good start.” Hamilton has won two straight since regaining the services of the aforementioned players and looked very impressive in routing Rochester, 17-8, last Saturday night. Now the Nationals come to Annapolis looking to avenge that earlier defeat to the Bayhawks. “We’re a different team now and we’re looking forward to showing that on Saturday night,” Thorpe said. “Chesapeake is playing really well right now. We’re looking forward to the challenge of facing the number one team in the league.” Chesapeake (5-1) will be seeking to maintain its perch atop the MLL standings when it hosts Hamilton (2-3) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Head coach Dave Cottle knows the Nationals will be more potent offensively due to the addition of Jamieson, Keogh and Walters while their defense will be stronger with the presence of Waldeck.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK IN ITS INAUGURAL SEASON IN THE MAJOR LACROSSE LEAGUE, THE HAMILTON NATIONALS ARE GETTING BETTER AS TIME GOES ON // By Roger Lajoie here is no doubt that the Hamilton T Nationals are a work in progress. Playing in a new venue and in a new city, and armed with a lineup filled with young players, everyone agreed that it was going to take some time for the Nationals to fully develop into a contending team. That’s just the way it works with a young team in transition. But the development is coming along just fine and after a rocky start to the season, the Nationals are clearly a team on the move as the Major Lacrosse League (MLL) season heads into its final month. “We started slow, but with more than 10 rookies in the lineup we expected that,” says Jody Gage, the Nationals’ general manager. “There is such a difference between box lacrosse and field lacrosse, and an even bigger Photos courtesy of the Hamilton Nationals of Photos courtesy difference maybe between college field lacrosse and a pro league like this. We’re start- ing to pick it up as our young guys get used to this league and it shows in the results.” It certainly has. After a 1-3 start to the sea- son the Nationals won three straight games and appear to be a team buoyed with confi- dence as it heads to the stretch run of the MLL season and hopefully a playoff spot. “I believe in my guys,” says head coach Regy Thorpe.
