Media should call in advance. 2 AU Men’s Golf and Tennis AU Men’s Golf Meet the Head Coach JOHN DONOFRIO Head Golf Coach Sixth Season John Donofrio started as the Varsity Men’s Golf Coach at Aurora University in the fall of 2002. Under Coach Donofrio’s leadership, the golf program has shown strong prospects. Returning golfers and strong recruits are holding an established team. The AU golf program consists of a competitive and full traditional fall and spring schedule, which includes a spring break competitive trip. The AU golf team is part of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) of NCAA Division III. Prior to joining AU, Donofrio was with Dominican University, where he started both the men’s and women’s golf programs, competing in NAIA and NCAA Division III. He has been involved with the game of golf for the past 25 years, since his introduction as a caddie at Calumet Country Club. He competes in amateur golf tournaments in the Chicago District Golf Association, and he is a member of the Chicago Golf Coaches Association and WGA Par Club. Donofrio earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Francis and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Benedictine University. He has worked in management positions in the insurance industry for the past 20 years. He also taught in the business departments at the University of St. Francis and Joliet Junior College as an adjunct instructor of economics, business policy and service management. AU Men’s Golf and Tennis 3 2008 Men’s Golf Review The Aurora University Men’s Golf team recently completed its 2007-2008 seasons. The fall season consists of a traditional schedule and conference tournament, while the spring season allows for more out-of-conference play. Heading into the season, the Spartans knew that they would be relying on a mix of fresh faces and proven winners. During the fall’s Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play, AU placed one player on the All-NAC Team. Gaining the All-Conference honor was freshman Cameron Parker (Muncie, IN/Delta). Parker responded well to his first season of collegiate play and proved himself as a force to be reckoned within the NAC. The spring season, which saw steady improvement, marked another successful campaign for the Spartans. As a team, AU’s scoring average has improved each of the last six years under Coach Donofrio. The 2008 team scoring average was a stellar 80.0, down from 81.2 the year prior. The season also included two first-place finishes, four second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. The Spartans also set a school record for number of rounds in the 70’s, with 39. TO OUR CLASSMATES Thank you to all of you who travelled from near and far to be part of this reunion! Your enthusiasm made the planning and preparation a lot of fun! Our special thanks to those of you who contributed to our classmate memorial fund. The beautiful Ginkgo tree planted at West High will be an enduring tribute to those classmates and friends who are !no longer with us. It takes a village to pull off a weekend-long party, and in addition to those of you who helped out over the weekend, we had a supportive team working hard for the months !leading up to the reunion: Vicki Leonardi McCoy helped to find classmates in cyberspace, and Beth Bales Olson !got the word out to the local papers to spread the reunion news. Ellen McCrimmon Achilles coordinated the purchase and planting of the memorial tree, !and created the lovely tribute in the lobby at Orchard’s. !When we “teed up” the idea of a golf outing, Jim Haried made it happen. Decorators extraordinaire—Beth Burckhard Nelson, Barb Davis Ahasic, and Susan !Kinsman—painted the weekend red & blue. Bubble letters and bandanas still rule! Andy Olson Magee helped us march to a different drummer in the Homecoming parade. !(A first for many!) !Peter Wulff “streaked” to our aid with printing (and a little painting too). Sarah Hoban wins the award for perseverance for getting our reunion information onto !the alumni website. Greg Hurst and Lauren Leimbach gladly seized the opportunity to share new perspectives on their graduation speeches, though Lauren shared her thoughts from afar !due to the air traffic “snafu.” Jim Bender and Brudd Rohr, as always you came through.

On behalf of the monks and all of us here at Marmion, I wish you and your loved MARMION ones a very Blessed and Merry Christmas! The News Magazine of Marmion Abbey Our faith teaches us that God became man in Jesus Christ and Academy for our salvation so that we could share in God’s own life through Christ.
