Abdullah was a wise and far-sighted king, who sought to reach an understanding with Israel, but was frustrated in his endeavours by Imperial interests and was assassinated by die-hard Arab nationalists in front of his grandson Hussein, who later in 1952 became King of Jordan at the age of 17.
