Arrival on foot

Proceed to the Main Reception where a member of the course team will meet you. On your first day you’ll be given a pass, which you’ll use to access the building from then on.

Rochester to Studios by bus

You need to take two buses to get from Rochester to the Maidstone Studios.

• The number 101 bus can be taken from bus stops either at the new Waterfront Bus Station in Chatham or the Pentagon Centre or Chatham Railway bus station. • This route will take you to the Chequers bus Station where you need to connect with the number 19, which will take you to New Cut Road in Vinters Park which is near the Studios. • Alternatively you can connect with the 333 or 334 which will take you to Emsworth Grove in Vinters Park (this is parallel with the studios). There is then a short walk to the studio.

The journey should take about 25 – 30 minutes on the 101 and about 10 - 15 minutes on the 19, 333 or 334. You’ll also need to allow time for changing bus as are unlikely to align exactly (probably about 5-10 minutes between busses.

> Equipment & Materials (needed)

You will need a portable USB drive to save and store your work. The drive should be a USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt, compatible with a Mac, and have at least 500 GB of memory.

> Visits

There may be non-compulsory visits to film festivals, film production studios and facilities that take place as part of enhancing your educational experience. Advance notice will be given of any associated costs. For example, a visit to the BBC for a tour of the studios followed by a film screening at the BBC Imax in 2015 cost £43.

There is one compulsory field trip to the Kent coast in your first term in order to complete a short film project. The price will be no more than £25.

> Your Summer Project

First, you need to set-up a blog using blogger.com. Give your blog a title that includes your name and our course (for example Simonwelsfordstvproductionblog).

Then email your blog link to your Programme Director, Simon: [email protected]

Next you need to make a short film (1-2mins) that introduces yourself. It should tell us something about you and your life - maybe where you live or your family and friends, job, holiday or favourite sport. It can be made in a style of your choice (drama, documentary, horror, sci-fi etc.) It should have opening titles and closing credits.

When completed, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo, then post it to your new blog. We’ll be watching the films as a group during your first week, so please give this project some attention and time so you’re ready to impress an audience of your new classmates!
