Prof. Dr. Jaap DE ZWAAN

Jaap de Zwaan is emeritus Professor of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam and former Director of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, Clingendael. His professional career has essentially been devoted to the domain of European integration, in several capacities, such as member of the bar, diplomat, university professor and director of a think tank. De Zwaan has participated in negotiations at European Union level with regard to, for example, treaty making, the accession of new member states and harmonization of national legislations. He also was agent of the Dutch Government in numerous legal proceedings before the Court of Justice in Luxembourg. His main domains of EU interest are related to respectively the constitutional debate, the internal market cooperation, the area of freedom, security and justice (notably EU asylum and immigration law and policy), and the external relations of the EU. Jaap de Zwaan is TEPSA’s Secretary- General.

Frank Schimmelfennig is Professor of European Politics and member of the Center for Comparative and International Studies at the ETH Zurich. She is also external senior research fellow at the Centre for Turkey and European Union Studies at , project director of the Jean Monnet network “VIADUCT – Enhancing Visibility of the Academic Dialogue on EU-Turkey Cooperation” as well as leading researcher in the H2020 Project "EU IDEA - Integration and Differentiation for Effectiveness and Accountability". Her research topics are among others EU-Turkey relations, differentiated integration in the EU, the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, Euroscepticism and institutional reforms of the EU. Funda Tekin is member of the board of the Trans European Policy Studies Association, part of the flying faculty of the Turkish-German University and editor of the Nomos-book series on EU- Turkey relations.

During his time as a member of the German , he served in the FDP parliamentary group, among others as parliamentary manager, security spokesman, deputy chairman and foreign policy spokesman, as well as general secretary of the FDP and minister of state in the Federal Foreign Office. He was elected as President of the EIB by the EU member states in 2012. Dr. Hoyer and his wife Katja have 2 children.

The Board of Governors confirmed Dr. Hoyer's re-election for a second term in July 2017, starting on January 1st, 2018.

Axel DITTMANN

Axel Dittmann is Director for EU Institutional Affairs, Brexit, EU Coordination, and EU2020 Presidency at the German Federal Foreign Office. Until recently, he was Ambassador of Germany to Serbia, a position he had held since 2015. Other previous roles include Head of Division for European Policy Issues in the Federal Foreign Office, member of the UNOSEK negotiating team at the United Nations in Vienna (2006– 2007), and member of the German negotiating team for the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe (2001–2004).

Prof. Dr. Brigid LAFFAN

Brigid Laffan is Director and Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, an inter-disciplinary research centre at the European University Institute. The Centre’s mission is to contribute to research on the major issues facing contemporary European society. Previously she was Vice-President of UCD and Principal of the College of Human Sciences from 2004 to 2011. Brigid Laffan is recipient of numerous awards: in 2005 she was elected Member of the Royal Irish Academy and in 2010 received the Ordre nationale du Mérite from the President of the French Republic. Her scholarship has been recognised by the THESEUS Award for Outstanding Research on European Integration in 2012 and the Lifetime Achievement Award for contribution to the development of European Studies in 2014 by UACES. Brigid’s research focuses on the dynamic of European integration.

Prof. Dr. Adriaan SCHOUT

Adriaan Schout is Professor of European Public administration at the Radboud University (Nijmegen, NL) and Senior Expert at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations (The Hague, NL). He published in the major academic journals on multilevel governance. Winner of the Prize for ‘Best Book in Contemporary European Integration Studies’ from UACES for his book with Andrew Jordan: The coordination of European Governance: exploring the capacities for networked governance, Oxford: Oxford University Press. He served as EU advisor to the Dutch government in the Advisory Council for Internal Affairs (2012-2020). His latest research includes studies on the remains of policy competition in the EU and on the EU’s multilevel management of border control. In addition, Adriaan Schout has been active in the media as commentator on EU politics.

Parallely, he is an Associate Professor and head of department of finance at the Business School of Ilia State University. Before joining PMC Research Center, he worked as the deputy dean of faculty of business administartion and economics at Tbilisi State University (2009-2011); in 2011-2014 he was a research fellow at the University of Bremen, while in 2015-2016 he worked as the head of research at Institute of Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI). In 2015-2017, he worked as the director of grants and programs at the National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSF) and as the Associate Professor at the Caucasus International University.

Prof. Khishtovani focuses his research on the political economy and governance, on fiscal policy, human capital development, international trade and global finance. Moreover, he is an author and co-author of various applied research papers, where he has conducted sectoral studies in the fields of finances, capital markets, insurance sector, health care and regional competitiveness.

Dr. Yuriy YAKYMENKO

Dr. Yuriy Yakymenko is the President of the Razumkov Centre, Kyiv, Ukraine. Before joining the Razumkov Centre, in 1995-2002, he worked at Administration of the President of Ukraine, as political analyst, Head of Division for liaison with political parties and public organization, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Political Analysis and Forecast. He studied political science at Kyiv Taras Shevchenko University (graduated in 1991), obtained MA degree in Political Theory from The University of Manchester (1994), hold Ph.D. in Political Science. Author of monographs, analytical reports, research papers, policy recommendations, numerous publications and comments for Ukrainian and foreign media on issues of Ukrainian politics. Took part in drafting legislation for reformation of political system of Ukraine, political parties and elections, participated in national electoral campaigns of leading political forces and candidates for presidency. Johannes Pollak is Professor of Political Science at Webster Vienna Private University where he also serves as rector. He is Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna (IHS) and chairman of the Executive Board of the Institute of European Politics (IEP) in Berlin. He also serves as co-editor of the ECPR’s Journal Political Research Exchange (PRX). He is the author of Repräsentation ohne Demokratie (Springer 2007), co-editor of Political Representation (Routledge 2017) (jointy with C. Lord), co-editor of Creating Political Presence (University of Chicago Press 2019) (jointly with D. Castiglione). His recent publications concern the relationship between democracy and representation, supranational democracy, democratic theory and European Integration. In addition, his research deals with European Energy Policy.

Dr. Karsten SACH

Karsten Sach is Director-General for International Policy and European Policy at the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. Prior to this position, he led the Division and later the Sub-Department for international climate change issues. Gaby Umbach is Part-time Professor, Director of GlobalStat, RSCAS, EUI and H2020 TRIGGER consortium member leading global governance research. Senem Aydın-Düzgit is Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Sabancı University, and a Senior Scholar and Research and Academic Affairs Coordinator at the Istanbul Policy Center. She was previously a Jean Monnet Chair of EU Political and Administrative Studies in the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University. Her main research interests include EU foreign policy, Turkish foreign policy, discourse studies, politics of identity, and democratization. Her articles have been published in the Journal of Common Market Studies, West European Politics, Cooperation and Conflict, Third World Quarterly, Politics, and South European Society and Politics among others. She is the author of (with Nathalie Tocci) Turkey and the European Union (Palgrave, 2015) and Constructions of European Identity (Palgrave, 2012). She is a member of the ECFR Council, a fellow of the Young Academy of Europe and a member of Carnegie Endowment's Rising Democracies Network. She also serves as Associate Editor of South European Society and Politics. She was awarded the Young Scientist Award of Turkey’s Science Academy (BAGEP) in 2014.

He was Director of the postgraduate „European Studies Program“ at the Center for European Integration Studies in Bonn (1998-2002) and Visiting Professor at: Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins University, Washington, DC (2002/3); Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington, DC (2007); Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund, Washington, DC (2016/17). Since 1998 he has also taught as Guest Professor at the Universities of Antwerp, Bologna, Boston (Harvard), Milan, Innsbruck, Vienna, Tübingen, Budapest, Birmingham, London, Moscow, Washington, Beirut and Otago.

His fields of research include EU foreign (economic) and security policy, transatlantic relations, German foreign (economic) and security policy, international political economy.
