California State Parks Volunteer District and Statewide Passes

California’s State Park System is the largest in the country, offering some of the world’s most varied natural and cultural wonders.

Volunteers are vital to California’s State Parks. Tens of thousands of volunteers donate over one million hours of time every year. As a means of showing appreciation for these volunteer efforts, California State Parks’ offers Volunteer District and Statewide Passes to those who meet minimum requirements. Please observe the terms and conditions listed below that apply to this pass and its use. Violation of the terms and conditions could result in pass revocation. Terms and Conditions  The pass is issued as a personal benefit to the pass holder. The pass holder may only hold one volunteer pass issued by California State Parks per calendar year. Volunteer passes are not transferable. The pass holder may not lend, loan, reassign, or resell their pass or the privileges allowed by this pass to anyone else, including family members.  The pass holder must abide by any rules and regulations applicable to California State Parks or to the use of this pass, as amended from time to time.  The pass is valid for day use at most units of the California State Park System operated by the California Department of Parks and Recreation (see list of restricted parks below). You may use the pass any day of the week, including holidays, if space is available. No priority will be given to you as a pass holder. You are not assured of space – use of facilities is on a “first-come, first- served” basis when space is available. Pass holders may be required to pay separate or additional fees.  The pass may be used for one passenger vehicle with a capacity of nine persons or less or one motorcycle at most California State Park System operated units where a vehicle day use fee is collected. Oversized Vehicle fees will not be assessed; however, not all parks can accommodate oversized vehicles. To receive pass benefits at self-pay locations, clearly display the pass and self-payment receipt on your vehicle’s dashboard where it is visible through the windshield. For parks where a per person day use entry fee is collected, the pass is valid for entry of the pass holder, only.  The pass is not valid for camping, boat use fees, group use or sits, special events, additional/extra vehicle fees, swimming pool fees, sanitation disposal use, or for supplemental fees.  The pass is not valid for resale or commercial use, industrial or business operations, including, but not limited to, fleet use or pooling. The pass shall not be assigned for profit and is void if misused.

DPR208TC (Rev. 2/2021) Page 2 of 4  The pass is valid unless revoked. This pass cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount, nor can it be copied or altered in any way. The pass will be cancelled if the pass holder is found not to meet the pass qualifications.  Inactive volunteers do not enjoy privileges or benefits beyond those of regular state park visitors. Therefore, District passes should be turned in upon separation. However, an inactive volunteer’s 200-hour Statewide Pass earned for the previous year’s work will remain valid through the current calendar year and shall be retained by the volunteer.

Required Identification  The pass holder is required to present the Volunteer Pass (photocopies not accepted) and your valid form of identification (state-issued driver license or other suitable photo identification [interim/temporary not accepted]) to the kiosk attendant. In those state park units with unstaffed kiosks or “iron rangers,” the pass should be displayed in plain view on the vehicle’s dashboard. In this situation, it is not necessary to display an ID on the dashboard or to leave it at the kiosk.

Lost or Damaged Pass  Upon suitable proof, a lost or damaged pass may be replaced. Please contact your Volunteer Coordinator if your pass needs to be replaced.
