  • •From Chambertin to Montrachet•
•FROM CHAMBERTIN TO MONTRACHET• A WINE TOUR IN COTE DE NUITS AND COTE DE BEAUNE WITH A TASTING OF 20 GRAND CRU AND PREMIER CRU FROM BURGUNDY Our wine tour “From Chambertin to Montrachet” will enable you to discover the two backbones of the vineyards in Burgundy: the Côte de Nuits and its great red wines and the Côte de Beaune and its incomparable white wines. This wine tour has been designed exclusively for two people. With Céline or Damien, sitting comfortably in their Wrangler Jeep, you will drive through the vineyard tracks. As we drive through the paths overlooking the vineyards, we will talk about oenology, observe the vegetative cycle in situ and vineyard work. Then we’ll talk about winemaking, maturation in oak barrels…about everything that gives the wines of Burgundy their reputation. The morning (from 9.30am to 1pm) is dedicated to the Côte de Nuits where we taste 10 wines (5 1er cru wines and 5 grand cru wines) over 5 tasting stops at Corton, Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny and Gevrey Chambertin. According to your level of knowledge, we will initiate or hone your tasting techniques in order to appreciate fully the precious vineyards that surround us…. Returning to Beaune, you are free to make the most of your lunch break before setting off again to explore the Côte de Beaune (from 2pm to 5.30pm). You’ll notice an evolution in the landscape with the vineyards spreading out more widely and an emphasis on white wines. • Burgundy Is in a Class by Itself
PREVIEWONLY Introduction Previewing this book? Please check out our enhanced preview, which offers a deeper look at this guidebook. While all of France’s wine regions are special, Burgundy is in a class by itself. The wines are sublime, distinctive and evocative of place. However, as good as the wines are, developing an understanding the region’s complex wine landscape – derived from the extreme fragmentation of its classified vine- yard area into small geographic plots – can be quite a task. Explaining this landscape and what makes the wines from each area unique is what this guidebook was designed to do. This Approach Guide focuses on the five principal areas of Burgundy: Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, Beaujolais and Yonne. What’s in this guidebook • Grape varieties. We describe Burgundy’s primary red and white grape varieties and where they reach their highest expressions. • Vintage ratings. We offer a straightforward vintage ratings table, which affords high-level insight into the best and most challenging years for wine production in Burgundy. • Appellation profiles. We provide detailed profiles of each of Burgundy’s appellations. For each appellation, this guide describes the prevailing terroir, the types of wine produced and what makes them distinctive. • Recommendations. We mark our favorite appellations with asterisks (*) — our selections have a record for providing quality, consistency and good values. • Information the way you like it. As with all of our guides, this book is optimized for intui- tive, quick navigation; information is organized into bullet points to make absorption easy; and links are provided to the best online resources.
