Ended up in overtime, which is, of course, ‘sudden death’. It was a shame that there had to be a loser. The best game of the 2015 playoffs so far, with the most on the line, in my opinion. Boyle was (hopefully) watching from the dressing room and was probably feeling sorry for his buddy Orpik. Quite a hit. Is that called a ‘Forearm shiver’ or just an elbow? Refs had put the whistles away. Hudson Bay Rules. By the time you read this column, you’ll have probably forgotten all about this game, because the semis may just produce the best games of the season yet. (The 21st is a week away.) Rangers vs Lightning. Stamkos vs Nash. Lundquist vs Bishop. Cooper vs Vigneault. Two well coached, great teams. No 1 offense vs No 3 regular season offense. Rangers may have edge on defense, if they survive the capital punishment. I had bet on both these teams, so now I’m really conflicted. My opinion is it will boil down to which goalie plays the best. I hope it goes to seven and into overtime, but I’ll say Rangers in six or maybe Tampa in seven. On the other side, the Mighty Ducks take on the Mighty Blackhawks. Don’t be out fishing on the nights these two behemoths clash. I had the Hawks so far, but I took Calgary in the betting, hoping for a faint miracle. At least Calgary won one game, so I ended up slightly ahead. As I predicted earlier an injury might tip the scales. The loss of Rozsival might be the ‘tipper’ unless someone can fill in… but who? I always liked the story of Reggie Leach when he played for the Flyers alongside Clarkie. One playoff game, so I was told, the Flyers were getting dressed when someone said, “Where’s Reggie?” A quick call to Cherry Hill revealed he was still in bed. A couple of Flyers took off their gear and zipped over to Reg’s house. Ten minutes in a cold shower brought some results. Back in the dressing room Shero (Freddie the Fog) came in to address the players. When he saw Leach’s bleary eyes he stated that Reggie was, “scratched”. After an animated discussion between Clarke and Shero, it was decided to give Reg a try. How many goals did Leach score that night? I think the record still stands. The moral of the story is…? I always liked Reg. I have a few Flin Flon stories about him, especially one night in the Northern Cafe when Leach had just finished the season with the Golden Seals. Remember them? Remember the skates? Reg was the best player ever for getting me tickets to a game. If I could get hold of him the tickets were always there, no charge. I wish him all the best. (I remember one night in Atlanta…) So you’re still wondering about my prediction on the Ducks versus Hawks? I know Hawks will eat Ducks, but sometimes nature is weird. I like sassy Kane and Captain T. I had a good laugh about the altercation in Buffalo over the cab fare. Kane was short of cash that morning.
