Resources Administration Administration ArcGIS Desktop Administration ArcGIS for Desktop is licensed under three functionality levels: . ArcGIS for Desktop Basic (formerly known as ArcView), which allows one to view spatial data, create layered , and perform basic ; . ArcGIS for Desktop Standard (formerly known as ArcEditor), which in addition to the functionality of ArcView, includes more advanced tools for manipulation of and geodatabases; or . ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced (formally known as ArcInfo), which includes capabilities for data manipulation, editing, and analysis. • You can borrow licenses for temporary use away from the office • License Manager can be installed on any location on the system and transferred from one license manager to another Administration Data Management Data Management

Geodatabases • Upgrade Geodatabase Tool and Python script • Geodatabase schema restructured to 6 tables • New geoprocessing tools that allow user to create older version of geodatabase • Six new topology rules • Geometric Network Wizard • New functionality in ArcMap allows you to define a spatial query against SQL spatial types in a to create a layer (query layer) that can be viewed and queried in ArcMap Data Management Data Management Data Management Six topology rules have been added Six topology rules have been added to the collection of rules that allow you to model the spatial relationships of your data. The rules are as follows: • Polygon: Contains One Point • Line: Must Not Intersect With • Line: Must Not Intersect or Touch Interior With • Line: Must Be Inside • Point: Must Be Coincident With • Point: Must Be Disjoint See Geodatabase topology rules and topology error fixes for a description of topology rules. Geodatabases • Support has been added for one‐way, child‐to‐ parent replicas. This type of replica allows you to edit the data in the child replica and synchronize it with the parent replica • A new SQL raster type (ST_Raster) can be installed in ArcSDE geodatabases in Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server Data Management

Editing • Editor toolbar redesigned • Easier to add new features through templates • Snapping redesigned • Mini pop‐up toolbars • Start editing with a right‐click • Easier to create and edit annotation Data Management Data Management Data Management

Raster Data • All raster formats use GDAL • New pyramids are saved as OVR files (flexible) • Raster Storage environment settings added to ArcGIS • A new raster data model—mosaic datasets—has been introduced • New geoprocessing tools are available for raster data • The Image Analysis window is new dockable window • Color correction tab and Mosaic Color Correction window are new Data Management Data Management

Tables and Attributes • A Table window has been added that displays all open attribute tables • The Table window includes a toolbar that lets you interact with the attributes and • You can validate a join before it is created by validating the join field names and values • The Field Calculator works with Python scripting • Features now support file attachments • The Identify window is now dockable • Attachments can be added Data Management Data Management Data Management

CAD • Context menus now enable right‐click conversion of CAD feature layers to a geodatabase and automatically add them to your map • A new tool—CAD To Geodatabase—allows you to bulk load CAD data from the Catalog window • Nonessential fields are now turned off by default in ArcMap feature class attribute tables • Spline geometry is now supported Data Management

Metadata • All the items in your catalog now have a simple, standardized core set of metadata properties • A new Metadata Editor dialog box has been introduced • Importing Metadata and Exporting Metadata are now geoprocessing tools • You can now validate metadata based on a metadata standard's XML schema Mapping and Visualization Mapping and Visualization

ArcMap Basics • Improved organization of menus and toolbars, updated icons • Easy to access great‐looking basemaps for your map via the new File > Add Data > Add Basemap command • New dockable window controls • The table of contents now has buttons along the top instead of tabs along the bottom Mapping and Visualization Mapping and Visualization

Accessing Data • You can access and manage your data through the new Catalog window that is built into the desktop applications • Access project through Catalog Window and new Home button • You can specify the default geodatabase you want your map to use • The new Search window in the desktop applications lets you instantly search for maps, data, and tools • Catalog items have a simple, standardized core set of metadata properties called the item description Mapping and Visualization Mapping and Visualization

Sharing maps and data • ArcGIS now lets you access maps and data from the GIS community at large • ArcGIS Online command lets you manage uploaded data • The new File > Add Data > Add Data From ArcGIS Online command in ArcMap lets you search • New map packaging capability lets you share complete map documents with others • The new ArcGIS.com Web site enables anyone to create a Web map containing one or more map services and share the map with others as part of ArcGIS Online Mapping and Visualization

Map display and navigation • Basemap layers have been added • Quickpan mode has been added • Scale Settings dialog limits map display scale • Manage the cache for services, basemaps & ArcGlobe • The Data View tab has settings to enable hardware acceleration and control basemap drawing behavior • Fewer redraws when working with ArcMap Mapping and Visualization

Page Layouts and Data Frames • Data driven pages • Dynamic text • Data frame options Mapping and Visualization

Cartographic Representations • Two new geometric effects have been added: – Jog effect – Arrow effect • User interface enhancements – The representation renderer displays value for the number of features assigned a rule – The Move tool provides additional options for distance – The Set Size provides more options to refine size change – A position property has been added to Dashes geometric effect • Feature layer representation has been improved Mapping and Visualization

Cartographic Representations Mapping and Visualization Geoprocessing and Analysis Geoprocessing and Analysis

• General – ArcToolbox has been replaced by the Search window, the Catalog window and the Results window – A new Geoprocessing menu has been introduced – You can add tools to any menu or toolbar • Python and ArcPy – The Python window replaces the Command Line window – ArcPy site replaces arcgisscripting in Python code – ArcPy contains mapping module, Spatial Analyst module and Geostatistical Analyst module Geoprocessing and Analysis Geoprocessing and Analysis

• Tools – 7 tools for ModelBuilder have been added –Calculate Value, Collect Values, Get Field Value, Merge Branch, Parse Path, Select Data, and Stop – More than 50 core geoprocessing tools have been added – Password protection • Model Builder – Undo & redo supported – Default spacing between elements has changed from 30 to 15 • Iterators – Iterators replace the series option in Model Properties – 12 iterators have been added – Sets the default value of ‐1 Other Changes

• Page layout and data frame • Automating workflows • Temporal data • Animations • Selection tools • Graphs • Reports • Snapping & Measure tools Resources Resources

Documentation • ArcGIS Resource Center http://resources.arcgis.com • Over 75% of help has been rewritten and updated • Topics organized by skill set • Tutorials are presented as topics in the help • Installed help files take up less space Resources Resources
